The Washington defense will face Dallas quarterback Kellen Moore in Week 17.
The matchup boosts the Redskins D/ST into the top-10 for Week 17 in fantasy leagues, as Moore has proved to be incredibly inaccurate in his first two games as a pro. Moore completed just 13 of 31 pass attempts at Buffalo in Week 16 and has four interceptions in the last two weeks. Washington has only intercepted nine passes this season but is a strong bet to increase that number against Dallas this week. Thu, Dec 31, 2015 12:16:00 AM

The Washington defense will travel to Philadelphia in Week 16 to face the Eagles, who are third among NFL teams with 27 turnovers in 2015.

The Philadelphia offense was especially generous in Week 15 when they handed four turnovers to the Arizona Cardinals. Chip Kelly's offense has turned the ball over in 13 of 14 games this season, including seven games with more than one giveaway. The turnover potential for the Redskins D/ST this week is attractive but this group is not strong enough to start on the road in fantasy leagues on Saturday.

The Washington defensive line will be tested on Sunday, as multiple players will likely be missing when the team takes on Chicago.

The playing status of defensive ends Stephen Paea (toe) and Jason Hatcher (pinched nerve) are looking dicey, leaving the team thin on the front-end. Washington feels they have the depth to survive, however. "We have a very deep front here so that’s kind of a plus for us if someone goes down," defensive end Chris Baker said. "There’s always someone ready to step up." The Washington defense is 25th in the NFL in run defense this season, and will likely get a large dose of Matt Forte on Sunday in a game with rain expected. The Redskins D/ST is not a viable streaming option this week.
Sat, Dec 12, 2015 03:38:00 AM

The Washington defense will face quarterback Matt Cassel in Week 13 as he takes over for Tony Romo (collarbone).

With Romo on the shelf again, Cassel will provide fantasy owners with a streaming target for the remainder of the 2015 season. Cassel has five touchdowns to five interceptions on the year, and the Cowboys averaged 16.3 points per game in his four previous starts before Romo's return. Washington is coming off a three interception game against Eli Manning last week and could be in line for more turnovers on Monday night. The Redskins D/ST is a viable streaming option in fantasy leagues this week due to the matchup.

The Washington defense will attempt to contain New York QB Eli Manning in the second 2015 meeting between the Redskins and Giants.

Manning threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns when these teams met in Week 3, with both touchdown passes coming in the fourth quarter of a 32-21 Giants win. The Redskins D/ST is coming off a loss at Carolina, where Panthers QB Cam Newton tossed five touchdowns, and will look to turn things around in Week 12 against their divisional foe. The Redskins D/ST won't be a recommended fantasy option this week.

The Washington Redskins will host the red-hot passing game of the New Orleans Saints in Week 10.

Drew Brees has thrown 10 touchdowns and averaged 446 passing yards per game over the last two weeks, led by his magnificent Week 8 performance against the New York Giants. Brees hasn't been quite as good on the road as he has been at home in 2015, but the passing prowess of the Saints will still be a tough task for the Washington defense. The Redskins D/ST is a bottom-tier fantasy option in Week 10.
Fri, Nov 13, 2015 03:33:00 AM

The Washington defense will face the New England Patriots and the NFL's highest scoring offense in Week 9.

New England is averaging an impressive 35.6 points per game this season and has scored less than 30 points just once in their seven wins. The Washington defense has struggled against the run in 2015, so stopping LeGarrette Blount and Dion Lewis will provide a challenge in addition to scheming against Tom Brady. The Redskins D/ST is not worth starting consideration in fantasy leagues this week.

The Washington defense rolls into their Week 8 bye with just three interceptions in seven games.

The Redskins D/ST failed to force Tampa Bay rookie Jameis Winston to throw a single pick in Week 7 and only one NFL team (Dallas) has fewer than Washington's three interceptions on the season. Things won't get any easier for the Washington pass defense after the bye, as they travel to New England to face the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady, who has thrown just one interception in 2015.

The Washington Redskins will face Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston in Week 7, who has thrown seven interceptions in his first five games in the NFL.

The Washington pass defense has been solid in 2015, with the Redskins checking in at 222.5 passing yards allowed per game, good for eight-best among NFL defenses. The Washington D/ST will be a startable fantasy option this week playing at home against the turnover-prone rookie Winston and the Buccaneers.
Sat, Oct 24, 2015 01:45:00 AM

The Washington D/ST will look to rebound in run defense this week after allowing 176 rushing yards on 32 attempts in Week 6.

Devonta Freeman and the Falcons ran over the Redskins last week and the team hopes to have more success stopping Chris Ivory and the New York Jets on Sunday. "We were all out of gaps, and I’ll take responsibility first and foremost and that’s in the D-line room. We were all over the place," said DE Jason Hatcher. The Redskins have quietly been solid in pass defense this season so an improvement on their defensive front would make this group even better. The Redskins D/ST is a borderline top-12 fantasy option this week.
Sat, Oct 17, 2015 05:46:00 PM

The Washington Redskins will travel to Atlanta in Week 5 to face the red-hot Falcons offense.

Matt Ryan and the Atlanta offense are averaging 43.5 points and 408 yards of total offense per game over the last two weeks. This scoring surge has coincided with the breakout of running back Devonta Freeman, who has created big problems for opposing defenses who also have to be mindful of wide receiver Julio Jones. The Washington D/ST has been better than expected this season, but won't be a viable fantasy option this week on the road at Atlanta.
Fri, Oct 9, 2015 01:25:00 AM

The Washington Redskins have just four sacks on the 2015 season and failed to sack New York's Eli Manning in Week 3.

Washington is well aware of their pass rushing deficiency, as DC Joe Barry told the Washington Post, "Our whole D-line room would tell you, 'They’re greedy. We’re greedy. We want to sack the quarterback. We want to get after the quarterback.'" The Washington defense will have to work to improve their sack total this week, as Sam Bradford and the Philadelphia Eagles have allowed just two sacks this season. Fantasy owners shouldn't bother starting the Washington D/ST in Week 4.
Fri, Oct 2, 2015 02:34:00 AM

The Washington defense will attempt to keep their strong 2015 start rolling on Thursday night when they travel to New York to face the Giants.

Washington's defense has allowed a league-low 469 yards to opposing offenses through two weeks and will look to shut down the New York Giants on a short week. The Redskins secondary has held up so far this season, with opposing quarterbacks averaging just 164 yards per game against Washington in 2015. Turnovers are the only piece missing from this defense, as the Redskins D/ST has created only one takeaway in two games. Despite this unit's surprising start, they will be a middling option this week on the road.
Thu, Sep 24, 2015 02:49:00 PM

The Washington Redskins will move on without SS Duke Ihenacho after the strong safety was placed on injured reserve with a fractured wrist.

The Washington secondary did a decent job of containing Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill in Week 1, but will now be thin on the back-end of their defense with the injury to Ihenacho. DC Joe Barry's defensive backs were already a suspect group, so they will need quality replacement production to stay afloat. The Washington D/ST is not a recommended Week 2 play in a home matchup with St. Louis.
Wed, Sep 16, 2015 11:58:00 PM

Mark Bullock of the Washington Post believes Lamar Miller and Jarvis Landry pose the biggest threats to the Washington defense in Week 1.

Landry and Miller are two of Miami's top playmakers, so the emphasis on stopping the duo makes perfect sense in preparation for Week 1. Miller especially presents a challenge, as Bullock said, "Once he reaches the second level, Miller can punish defenders for poor angles and tackling form. That is bad news for a Redskins secondary that has struggled over the past few years to make open-field tackles." The Washington D/ST is not a starting fantasy option in Week 1.
