The Lions would reportedly like to re-sign free agent OLB Landon Johnson and "let him compete for a starting spot."
Johnson's 2010 season ended in ugly fashion when he was placed on injured reserve in Week 17 after suffering two concussions in three weeks. The Lions are thin enough at outside linebacker that they are expected to keep Bobby Carpenter around, however, so it's not surprising they are hoping to retain Johnson. Sat, Jul 9, 2011 12:32:00 PM

Lions LB Landon Johnson's (concussion) season is likely over.

Johnson suffered his second concussion in the last three weeks Sunday. He's been an occasional starter this season due to injuries and will finish the year with 48 tackles and two forced fumbles over 12 games.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz said there was "no damage" to LB Landon Johnson and that he could play in Week 15.

"All signs are very, very positive," Schwartz said. Johnson had to be carted off after a helmet-to-helmet hit Sunday, so it's a miracle that he'll be able to escape this with only some soreness. He was the Lions' leading tackler in the game before getting injured, so it would be good for them to get him back for Week 15.

Lions LB Landon Johnson was taken to the hospital following a helmet-to-helmet blow against the Packers Sunday.

The Lions are saying Johnson has a neck injury, but the good news is that he had some movement in all his extremities. Coach Jim Schwartz said the team was "guardedly optimistic."

Lions LB Landon Johnson left Sunday's game against the Packers with a neck injury and will not return.

Johnson took a helmet-to-helmet blow from Packers TE Andrew Quarless. It has the look of a serious injury as Johnson stayed down on the field for several minutes. Johnson had to be carted off.

Lions declared MLB DeAndre Levy, LB Landon Johnson, RB Aaron Brown, CB Nate Vasher, OT Jason Fox, DL Turk McBride, and DE Willie Young inactive for Week 6 at the Giants.

Special teamer Ashlee Palmer will draw the start at middle linebacker with Levy (groin) and Johnson (concussion) both out. It's shaping up as a beautiful matchup for both Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs.

Landon Johnson (concussion) will likely start in place of DeAndre Levy (ankle) at MLB for the Lions if Levy is unable to play.

Johnson returned to practice Friday. He has little experience playing inside, so upgrade Ahmad Bradshaw if Levy remains sidelined.

Landon Johnson will fill in at middle linebacker Sunday if DeAndre Levy (groin) can't go.

Levy hasn't practiced since leaving the third preseason game with a groin injury, so he's a longshot to suit up at Chicago. Johnson, a special teamer at this stage of his career, has long been an outside linebacker. Upgrade Matt Forte's matchup.

Lions signed LB Landon Johnson to a one-year contract.

Johnson has the ability to play all three linebacker positions, although he doesn't do anything particularly well. He'll be strictly a backup in Detroit.

The Lions will host free agent LB Landon Johnson on Wednesday.

Johnson is purely backup/special teams material, so the Lions are a good fit with their starting linebacker jobs already filled and a lack of depth throughout the roster.

Panthers released LB Landon Johnson.

Johnson, 29, was owed $2.595 million in 2010 and is coming off a season-ending knee injury. With weak-side linebacker Thomas Davis (knee) expected to be ready for Week 1 and Dan Connor deemed ready for a starting role on the strong side, Johnson became expendable.

Panthers placed LB Landon Johnson (knee sprain) on season-ending injured reserve.

Johnson is the second Panthers' starting WLB lost to injured reserve in three weeks. Dan Connor, last year's third-round pick, is the favorite to take over for Johnson, though he's spent much of his time with the Panthers practicing inside. James Anderson is also a candidate.

Panthers WLB Landon Johnson has a knee sprain but doesn't need surgery, according to coach John Fox.

Johnson was injured in the fourth quarter of Thursday's loss to the Dolphins. It's remarkably yet another injury to a Panthers' front seven that has been ravaged this season. Johnson was already filling in for Thomas Davis (injured reserve, knee).

Panthers WLB Landon Johnson left Sunday's game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury and did not return.

Johnson and Nail Diggs were prime culprits in a Panthers defense that struggled to tackle all night. His injury could open the door to more playing for Dan Connor, which may actually help the Panthers' run defense.
