Texans signed FB Moran Norris and DE Keith Browner Jr.
With only untested Derrell Smith and Jason Ford behind tight-end/fullback hybrid James Casey, the Texans will carry the veteran Norris as insurance through training camp. The 33-year-old won't be guaranteed a roster spot after losing his job to rookie Bruce Miller in San Francisco last year. Undrafted out of Cal, Browner's father Keith and Uncle Joey both played in the NFL. Thu, Jun 14, 2012 03:30:00 PM

49ers FB Moran Norris is expected to miss Sunday's game after suffering a leg injury last week.

Rookie Bruce Miller was seeing first-team snaps in training camp, so there shouldn't be much of a drop-off. A converted defensive end, Miller may actually be an improvement on Norris in the run-blocking department.

CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco believes 49ers FB Moran Norris is in danger of not making the team.

Maiocco thinks seventh-round FB Bruce Miller has a roster spot sewn up. If that's the case, Norris can probably kiss his chances of making the club goodbye. A pure blocker entering his age-33 season, it's no guarantee Norris would latch on elsewhere if the 49ers cut him loose.

ESPN's Mike Sando says it's reasonable to think the 49ers may be looking for a replacement for FB Moran Norris.

Norris is a pure run blocker that is entering the final year of his contract and will turn 33 in June. The Niners could get younger at the position by drafting FB Owen Marecic, who played for new coach Jim Harbaugh at Stanford.

FB Moran Norris will serve as the 49ers' third running back this week against the Rams.

The Niners didn't promote Kory Sheets from the practice squad because they're not confident in his ability to pick up the blitz, according to beat writer Matt Maiocco. They'll roll with Glen Coffee and former QB turned special teamer Michael Robinson as their only other backs this week.

49ers agreed to terms on a three-year contract with FB Moran Norris.

Norris was the team's lead blocker when Frank Gore rushed for 1,695 yards in 2006, but was let go when Mike Martz came to town. The addition of a "square backed" fullback is good news for Gore as San Francisco transitions back into a run-first offense.

Lions FB Moran Norris was ejected from Sunday's game for throwing a punch at Vikings MLB Napoleon Harris.

"I'm disappointed," coach Rod Marinelli said. "You can't lose your composure. That hurt us, he's a heckuva fullback for us." Norris got the boot in the second quarter. Detroit averaged only 2.9 YPC against Minnesota.

49ers signed FB Moran Norris to a three-year, $3.285 million extension.

Norris has taken over as San Francisco's lead blocker, replacing Chris Hetherington. A former Texan, Norris is rarely used as a receiver or to carry the football but effectively clears holes for Frank Gore.
