Dolphins signed OG Randy Thomas, formerly of the Redskins.

The Fins need healthy bodies at guard with Nate Garner (foot) out two months and John Jerry battling knee soreness. Thomas, an 11-year veteran with the Jets and Redskins, missed most of 2009 with a torn right triceps. Now 34 years old, Thomas was a dominant run-blocking right guard in his prime.

Thomas was Washington's best run-blocking lineman as recently as 2008, but he missed nearly all of last season with a torn right triceps and was due over $3 million in salary at age 34. Thomas was also a poor fit for the Skins' new zone-blocking scheme. It's unclear if he intends to keep playing.

Redskins placed RG Randy Thomas on injured reserve with a torn right triceps muscle, ending his season.

It should've happened the past two years, but the Skins need to go heavy on offensive linemen in the 2010 draft (and scout better). Thomas will return at age 34 next year with a salary that shoots from $1.6 million to $3.7 million. He will have missed 27 of the Redskins' last 48 regular season games.

Redskins coach Jim Zorn confirmed that RG Randy Thomas has a complete tear of his right triceps.

It's a big blow to the Redskins. Will Montgomery is expected to get the first shot at replacing Thomas, the team's best run blocker. Pete Kendall is a free agent and knows the scheme but he probably couldn't be ready for this week's game against the Lions.

Redskins RG Randy Thomas is expected to miss the 2008 season after tearing his right triceps in Sunday's win over the Rams.

The move to 1-1 cost the Skins their best run blocker. The team isn't saying anything until they see an MRI, but LG Derrick Dockery basically confirmed it. "It's gonna be hard, we're gonna miss him," he said. This is Thomas' second triceps tear in the last three seasons. His loss is going to hurt Clinton Portis, who hasn't played well at all in Washington's first two games.

Redskins RG Randy Thomas left Sunday's game with a right triceps injury and will not return.

He was replaced by third-year offensive lineman Will Montgomery. If Thomas has to miss significant time, Clinton Portis could be in real trouble. He's by far their best run blocker.

Right guard Randy Thomas (knee) has resumed practicing at Redskins camp.

Washington can breathe a big sigh of relief. OLs coach Joe Bugel made it sound last week like Thomas might need more knee surgery, but the 33-year-old says he "just takes a little bit more time to warm than I used to."

Redskins offensive line coach Joe Bugel admitted that he is "concerned" with the health of RG Randy Thomas.

Thomas is still having problems with the knee he had scoped in May, and isn't practicing. "I'm concerned about Randy," Bugel said. "Randy's had some problems." Thomas' loss could be devastating for an ultra-thin offensive line.

The Redskins' defensive line has reportedly been dominating the team's offensive line at early-training camp practices.

Guards Randy Thomas and Derrick Dockery are predictably having trouble with Albert Haynesworth, while Phillip Daniels has been "hard to move" and rookie Brian Orakpo has displayed terrific pass-rushing technique. The Skins' defensive line looks great on paper, but the offensive line could be a liability.

Redskins coach Jim Zorn revealed at OTAs Monday that RG Randy Thomas recently had his knee scoped.

Zorn called Thomas "on schedule," but he had his knee scoped in spring '07 as well and is currently also coming off neck surgery. At age 33, Thomas has a lot of tread on his tires and Washington's line remains scary thin.

Redskins RG Randy Thomas revealed that the neck injury he played through last season was career threatening.

Offseason surgery will allow Thomas to play in 2009, but doctors informed him during last season that he risked paralysis by continuing to play. Thomas started all 16 games. He was medically cleared from surgery last month.

Thomas had surgery to repair a bulging disc in his neck early in January. The 33-year-old started all 16 games last year and will keep his first-team job.

Redskins RG Randy Thomas will have "minor" surgery to repair a bulging disc in his neck next week.

Thomas played through the injury late in 2008 and the procedure doesn't figure to keep him out of any spring work. The powerful run-blocking guard will be 33 next season, but is sure to be back at his $1.6 million salary.

The Redskins have begun renegotiating RG Randy Thomas and DE Andre Carter's contracts.

Washington has to do this annually with its best players because of poor cap management. Neither of these guys are going anywhere. Thomas was beset by injuries in 2007, but is still the Redskins' best run blocker. Carter was huge last year, posting 10.5 sacks and four forced fumbles after a poor '06.
