Free agent WR Javon Walker is working out with other NFL players at Tom Shaw's renowned Performance Enhancement program in Florida this spring.
Walker received no known interest from NFL teams after he was cut by the Vikings after a fairly promising preseason performance. Walker is facing a four-game NFL suspension to begin the season, and he hasn't played in a regular-season game since early in 2009. Tue, May 17, 2011 02:32:00 PM

Free agent WR Javon Walker has been suspended for four games by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for an undisclosed violation of league policy.

Walker has had enough trouble securing another NFL job after being cut by the Vikings in September, and this suspension will likely serve as the death knell on an up-and-down career in which the former Seminole collected 4011 receiving yards and 31 touchdown grabs. Walker would only be forced to serve the suspension should a team sign him, but that's not likely to happen now.

Free agent Javon Walker has not heard from the Vikings since being cut on September 4.

The Vikings are only carrying four receivers on their active roster even with Percy Harvin banged up this week. Walker is working out, hoping to get a call from the Vikes or another NFL team. He shouldn't wait by the phone.

Vikings released WR Javon Walker.

Walker showed well in the preseason with a pair of touchdowns and over 100 combined yards in two games, so he might have put enough on tape to get another team to bite. Unfortunately for him, the Vikings deemed Greg Camarillo a superior option in the possession role they'd been seeking to upgrade. Minnesota will keep just four receivers on the roster, confirming the medical staff's confidence that Percy Harvin's migraines will not recur.

ESPN's Tom Pelissero confirms that Javon Walker is "far from a lock" to make the Vikings' 53-man roster.

It was recently suggested by a competing Vikings beat writer that Walker was headed for a starting role opposite Bernard Berrian, but there's no chance of that happening. According to Pelissero, Walker's tryout for the team "was only OK," and his "rust has been obvious" in practice. Greg Camarillo is a much, much better bet for regular playing time than Walker.

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi believes Javon Walker has no chance of helping the Vikings this year.

Walker had "no explosion in his lower body before he signed the big contract with the Oakland Raiders, and that was three years ago," explains Lombardi. It's hard to muster up a contrary opinion here. Walker hasn't been a factor on the field in four years, and his legs simply aren't the same. We remain skeptical that he'll even make the team.

Vikings signed WR Javon Walker.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Walker once fit the Sidney Rice profile as a tall, athletic receiver that Brett Favre could throw open, but that was five years and multiple knee surgeries ago. Walker hasn't been a fantasy factor since 2006, so keep expectations low. He's far from a lock to make the opening-day roster.

ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert calls the Vikings pending signing of Javon Walker "pure flyer material."

"Walker should be a deep long shot to make the team," writes Seifert. "If the Vikings think otherwise, then they have more concern at the position than we thought." It's hard to disagree. We'd set the odds at lower than 50 percent that Walker ends up making this team.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Vikings plan to sign free agent Javon Walker on Monday.

Walker's roster spot may be tied to Sidney Rice's health. If Rice can't make it back by the season opener, Walker would theoretically give Brett Favre a bigger down-field threat. The only problem is that he hasn't been an asset since 2006. He'll have to prove he still has NFL talent before the Vikes cut a better receiver to make room.

The Vikings are reportedly working out free agent Javon Walker on Friday.

As far as we know, this is Walker's first tryout since the Raiders dumped him in May. The Vikings are doing their due diligence with Percy Harvin (migraines) and Sidney Rice (hip) banged up, but Walker hasn't been an NFL caliber receiver since 2006. Knee injuries have ruined his career.

Updating a previous item, the Jaguars are reportedly denying that free agent Javon Walker was ever scheduled for a tryout.

Walker told a judge this week that he had to reschedule a tryout due to his court appearance. We hope he didn't have his hand on the Bible at the time.

Free agent Javon Walker is expected to work out for the Jags in the near future.

Walker was reportedly scheduled for a previous tryout but had to change his plans to testify in the trial of a man accused of kidnapping, robbing and beating him. The last time the Jags signed a Raiders castoff, they got stuck with Jerry Porter's dried up carcass.

Free agent Javon Walker says he would be willing to sign a contract for the NFL minimum for another chance.

"The thing about football right now is it’s not really about the money," said Walker, who collected over $14 million from the Raiders in exchange for 15 catches in two years. Walker also reiterated that he's healthy. "I’m 100 percent...finally, since I left Denver," said the 31-year-old. "People are going to say ‘Wow, that’s the Javon we remember.’ I returned 110 percent."

Free agent Javon Walker says he has regained his explosiveness and intends to continue his career.

Walker underwent experimental surgery last year that supposedly allowed him to regrow cartilage in his knee. "I haven’t done anything lately," Walker acknowledged. "But (I’m) just (looking for) somebody who’s going to dig down deep and say ‘let’s take a look and see what this kid can do.’"

Raiders released WR Javon Walker and DE Greg Ellis.

In exchange for 15 catches, 196 yards and one touchdown in two years on Oakland's roster, the club paid Walker $21 million. Typical Raiders business. Owner Al Davis should've let Walker retire when he threatened to during the 2008 offseason, even offering to return his $11 million signing bonus. Walker, 31, lost all his speed after microfracture surgery and is likely done as a pro. Ellis had seven sacks last year to lead the team, but Davis wants to move forward with Matt Shaughnessy opposite Richard Seymour.
