Mike Wahle has decided to retire from football after being released by the Seahawks Friday.
He underwent a second surgery in December, but his right shoulder just wouldn't cooperate. Rookie Max Unger will move into the starting lineup at guard, with Rob Sims possibly moving to the left side. Wahle, 32, blocked for Brett Favre and Ahman Green on some quality Packers teams from 1998-2004 before earning his first Pro Bowl selection with the Panthers in 2005. Still, the Seahawks should've seen this coming before they signed him to a $20 million contract last offseason. It looked like a bad move at the time, and obviously proved to be. Seahawks released/failed physical OG Mike Wahle.

Wahle's shoulder hasn't responded after December surgery. Indications are the 32-year-old former Packer won't play this year, and he's said to be leaning towards retirement.

Seahawks LG Mike Wahle (shoulder) is leaning towards retirement, according to Profootballtalk.com.

Nothing is official, but this report is consistent with word out of Seattle that Wahle's shoulder injury could jeopardize his career. The former Packer just signed a five-year, $20 million contract before last season. Rookie Max Unger is expected to replace him in the starting lineup.

Seahawks LG Mike Wahle's recovery from shoulder surgery has been "problematic," GM Tim Ruskell revealed Thursday.

As we suspected, Seattle's tryouts of Grey Ruegamer and Cory Withrow were tied to Wahle's health. Wahle's original timetable was four months and he had the surgery in December, but still won't be ready for training camp.

Seahawks G Mike Wahle will undergo surgery on his injured right shoulder.

He didn't tear the labrum, but will be out three to four months. Wahle is uncertain to return next season with Seattle changing coaching staffs.

Seahawks placed LG Mike Wahle (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Wahle is due $3.1 million in 2009, which is a manageable salary for a starter. But his age (32 in March) and injury history would make Wahle risky for Seattle to carry another year. He isn't a sure thing to return.

Seahawks LG Mike Wahle did not tear the labrum in his shoulder, which would have required season-ending surgery.

He received an injection Monday. His timetable for return isn't yet known, but odds are he won't be ready Sunday.

Seahawks signed G Mike Wahle. Profootballtalk.com reports the deal is for five years, but backloaded and closer to a three- or four-year pact.

It includes a "small" signing bonus. Wahle isn't the Pro Bowler he once was, but will only be 31 this year and knows Mike Holmgren's offense. He will start at left guard this season, replacing Seattle's 2007 duo there of Rob Sims and Floyd Womack. Chris Gray will likely stay at right guard.

Free agent G Mike Wahle will reportedly meet with the Seahawks on Wednesday.

Wahle, cut Monday in a cap-related move, was drafted by Green Bay during Mike Holmgren's tenure there. However, Seattle is going with a power running game this year, and Wahle's strength has come into question since he tore his labrum in 2006. He'd have to come cheaply.

The Panthers have restructured the contract of guard Mike Wahle.

The move freed up $1.3 million in cap room and didn't require a cut in pay. Wahle is currently recovering from surgery to correct a torn labrum.

Panthers placed left guard Mike Wahle on injured reserve with a torn shoulder labrum, ending his season.

The veteran will need surgery to repair his injury, but coach John Fox added that Wahle had "a couple of things going on with his shoulder." Rookie Will Montgomery should continue to start at left guard. Injuries are beginning to catch up with Wahle, but he'll be counted on for 2007.

G Mike Wahle was unable to play Sunday when his shoulder injury flared up during pregame warmups.

"It was pretty bad all week," Wahle said. "And I really don't know until I start trying to use it. And during warm-ups, it was inoperable. I tried to work into it doing one-on-one (drills) with the line, and doing our team stuff, and after a couple of those I knew it just wasn't going to happen."

Panthers LG Mike Wahle will continue to receive a few days off each week as he rests his injured shoulder.

He said that it will only heal with rest, and that it could be an eight-week period before that happens. Regardless, Wahle has been able to play through the injury.
