Chargers signed LB Na'il Diggs, formerly of the Rams.
The 33-year-old is purely injury insurance with Larry English (foot) and Shaun Phillips (hamstring) facing questions heading into the season. The Chargers are in trouble if Diggs is forced to play significant snaps on the outside. Sat, Sep 3, 2011 02:32:00 PM

Rams released OLB Na'il Diggs.

Diggs was only owed $1.25 million in the final year of his contract, but the Rams are likely looking for more versatility out of their backup linebackers. Diggs wasn't going to start after the Rams added Brady Poppinga, Ben Leber and Zac Diles this offseason. Poppinga and Leber are now both starters.

Rams placed OLB Na'il Diggs on injured reserve with a torn right pectoral, ending his season.

Diggs was only St. Louis' seventh-leading tackler, but he was also the only outside 'backer capable of keeping a starting job. Due $1.25 million in 2011, the 33-year-old will have a roster spot waiting for him if he plays another season. Whether or not he starts will depend on offseason moves.

Rams SLB Na'il Diggs will miss the remainder of the season with a torn right pectoral muscle.

Diggs' recovery period will be five months. The 32-year-old has been St. Louis' only reliable outside linebacker this season, so the Rams will go back to the drawing board at both the strong- and weak-side positions this week.

Rams SLB Na'il Diggs suffered a right shoulder injury Sunday that's expected to sideline him indefinitely.

"This one might be a little while," coach Steve Spagnuolo said of Diggs' injury. The Rams have had a revolving door at WLB this season, but Diggs has kept his starting spot on the strong side despite less than stellar play. A combination of Chris Chamberlain, Larry Grant and David Vobora will handle the OLB spots while Diggs is out.

Na'il Diggs is the favorite to start at strongside linebacker for the Rams.

Diggs will enter camp ahead of David Vobora for the gig. Even if Diggs wins out, weakside starter Bobby Carpenter is a better bet for IDP production next to middle linebacker James Laurinaitis.

Na'il Diggs' new two-year, $2.5 million contract with the Rams includes no guaranteed money.

Diggs will receive a $100,000 workout bonus this spring, which could be all he gets if he's beaten out for a starting job this summer. He shouldn't be concerned just yet, but the Rams could pick up a superior option in the draft next week.

Newly signed Na'il Diggs is expected to start out at strong-side linebacker for the Rams.

Though the Rams' vacancy was at weak-side, the early plan is to have Diggs step in at SAM during OTAs and go from there. With his 6'4/240 size and reputation as a better run than pass defender, the strong side is a better fit. Underrated David Vobora would then switch to weak side, making him the No. 2 IDP linebacker to target in St. Louis behind James Laurinaitis.

Rams agreed to terms with LB Na'il Diggs on an undisclosed contract.

He'll officially sign on Wednesday. The 10-year vet will be a slight upgrade on Paris Lenon at weak-side linebacker, but that's damning with faint praise. On the bright side, the 32-year-old is familiar with the system thanks to his history with Rams DC Ken Flajole. In reality, Diggs was streteched as a starter in Carolina, and is trending in the wrong direction as he ages.

Beat writer Jim Thomas expects Na'il Diggs to step in as one of the Rams' starting outside linebackers once he signs.

The sides are expected to finalize a deal early this week. Diggs would be replacing Paris Lenon, who is now with Arizona and had just 43 tackles in 11 games in St. Louis last season. Like Lenon, Diggs will be a below-average starter.

The Rams are reportedly on the verge of signing free agent LB Na'il Diggs to a two-year contract.

St. Louis is bidding against itself, so Diggs shouldn't be guaranteed much money on the short-term deal. The journeyman turns 32 before the season.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, there were "indications" Tuesday night that the Rams were close to a deal with free agent LB Na'il Diggs.

The Rams have been the only team to pursue Diggs since he was released by Carolina on March 5. Ideally, they won't pay him more than the minimum.

The Rams hosted free agent LB Na'il Diggs on Friday afternoon.

Diggs, a reserve-caliber player, would probably be an immediate starter in St. Louis' poor linebacker corps. The 32-year-old has a connection with the Rams; defensive coordinator Ken Flajole was his position coach in Carolina.

Panthers released LB Na'il Diggs.

Diggs just restructured his contract in January and lowered his salary to $855,000 in 2010. But it wasn't enough. Dan Connor is poised to step in on the strong side now and at age 31, Diggs will find the open market unkind.

The Panthers have restructured SLB Na'il Diggs' contract, cutting his 2010 salary but adding four years to the backside.

Diggs was scheduled to make $2 million in 2010, but now he will make $855,000. At age 31, there is virtually no shot he will play out those four years and beat writer Darin Gantt suggests that the Panthers probably included some kind option payment that won't be picked up. Regardless, this ensures that Dan Connor will stay on the bench for now.
