Packers released DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila.
A stunner. This is a strong statement about KGB's declining skills considering the Packers are short on the defensive line and will still pay the nine-year veteran his complete $6.1 million salary. Gbaja-Biamila has been one dimensional in recent years and struggled to recover from off-season knee surgery. The move could mark the end of his career, which was all played for the Packers. He has the franchise record in sacks with 74 and a half. DT Justin Harrell was activated in his place. Sat, Nov 1, 2008 03:24:00 PM

Packers RE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (knee) returned to practice on Monday.

Green Bay is shorthanded inside, so KGB may have to play a lot of snaps early on when Cullen Jenkins kicks to DT. He's got a stellar matchup against Vikings fill-in LT Artis Hicks in Week 1 and can be started in IDP leagues.

Packers DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (knee surgery) has resumed practicing.

KGB, who had surgery on May 29, recovered pretty quickly for a 31-year-old. Gbaja-Biamila had 9.5 sacks in 2007, but may struggle to repeat that total with Cullen Jenkins staying ahead of him at right end and rookie Jeremy Thompson added. KGB is someone avoid in tackle-heavy IDP leagues.

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila's May 29th knee surgery was to repair a torn meniscus.

It was an arthroscopy and KGB stated Wednesday that he'll be 100% by the start of training camp. The local paper mentions that he may not be ready. Amid the Jason Taylor-to-Green Bay rumors, there is speculation that Gbaja-Biamila could be cut, but if he's healthy we can't see it.

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila had surgery on his knee on Thursday.

Gbaja-Biamila had a knee scope, and will be out for two months. "It was minor surgery, something that's been bothering him throughout the offseason, so we probably won't get him back until training camp," said Packers coach Mike McCarthy.

The Packers have not approached DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila about a new contract.

KGB has salaries of $6.15 million and $7.3 million left on his deal. He excelled in a situational role last year, posting 9.5 sacks and forcing two fumbles, and figures to be kept around until the contract expires.

Packers GM Ted Thompson says Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (knee/ankle) and Charles Woodson (toe) would've played Thursday if it was a playoff game.

It's clear neither player's injury is season threatening. "I think it just comes down to player safety," Thompson said. "It didn't make sense to risk them for this one game. We still have a lot of the season to go."

Packers DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila is not expected to play Thursday night.

KGB is among the league's sack leaders despite coming off the bench, so his loss hurts against a Cowboys offense the Packers will need to pressure to slow down. Cullen Jenkins is likely in line for a full host of snaps.

Packers DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (ankle/knee sprain) missed his second consecutive practice on Monday.

Gbaja-Biamila, who has 9.5 sacks on the year, was injured during the Thanksgiving day game against the Lions. The Packers, who will likely be without DT Johnny Jolly (shoulder) will need a strong pass rush to help disrupt the timing of Cowboys QB Tony Romo.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Friday that Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila suffered knee and ankle sprains in Thursday's Thanksgiving win.

Gbaja-Biamila could be listed as questionable for next Thursday's tilt against the Cowboys. Green Bay's third end has 9.5 sacks on the season.

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila doesn't think his ankle injury is serious.

"It’s nothing serious. It should be OK with just a little rehab and ice and a lot of prayer," KGB said. He is a reserve DE, but his absence would be felt against the Cowboys next week.
