Former Steelers RB Najeh Davenport chased down a thief who stole his 1970 Chevy Impala Tuesday.
When Dookie left his car running outside his home, the man jumped in and sped off. After trading paint with four parked cars, the man tried to escape on foot only to be caught from behind by Davenport. Who says injuries have sapped his long speed? Wed, May 20, 2009 09:53:00 AM

Colts released Najeh Davenport and signed OT Michael Toudouze.

Fun while it lasted. Davenport had 12 effective touches against the Titans reserves, but he didn't even pass Lance Ball on the depth chart. Toudouze is active for Saturday night's game.

Najeh Davenport rushed eight times for 26 yards and caught four passes for 54 yards in Week 17.

Davenport received some playing time because the Colts were resting ... everyone else.

Najeh Davenport looks likely to take much of the backfield duties for the Colts Sunday.

Dominic Rhodes (ribs/chest) has been ruled out and backup Chad Simpson (ankle) likely won't play much. The Colts are expected to be "cautious" with Joseph Addai, which only leaves the Hamper left to get carries. Don't expect a great effort, even against Tennessee's backups.

According to Colts coach Tony Dungy, newly signed RB Najeh Davenport will almost certainly take over kickoff return duties Sunday.

Dungy added that Dookie could also be the backup running back if Joseph Addai (shoulder) and Chad Simpson (ankle) can't play.

Colts signed RB Najeh Davenport.

Coach Tony Dungy said that Joseph Addai's shoulder was "OK" and that he could have returned to last Sunday's game, but this makes you wonder. If Addai proves healthy, Dookie will share the No. 3 running back role with Chad Simpson. Don't expect him to get many carries until the Colts have clinched a playoff spot, if ever.

Steelers waived RB Najeh Davenport.

Pittsburgh brought Dookie back just for Week 13 due to concern over Willie Parker's previously sprained knee. Davenport's release indicates the medical staff is now confident that Parker can be a full-time player again.

Steelers re-signed RB Najeh Davenport and waived CB Roy Lewis.

Bringing Davenport back aboard would seem to indicate concern about Willie Parker's (knee) status for Week 13, but Parker did practice Thursday. Davenport gives Pittsburgh a solid special teamer and No. 4 tailback.

Steelers released RB Najeh Davenport.

Dookie was expected to take on a pass blocking and special teams role after he was signed last month, but Mewelde Moore's emergence has left him without a role on offense. With Davenport nursing a hamstring injury, rookie linebacker Donovan Woods was promoted to take over special teams duties.

Beat reporter Ed Bouchette believes that Najeh Davenport will stay with the Steelers' roster for the rest of the season.

Dookie saw only one carry with Willie Parker out in Week 5 and Gary Russell figures to be higher on the depth chart going forward, but Davenport can pass block and play special teams. He's too situationally valuable to cut.

Newly signed RB Najeh Davenport will return kickoffs for the Steelers Sunday.

Santonio Holmes will take over the majority of punt return duties with Mewelde Moore expected to be the feature back.

Najeh Davenport reportedly "looked to be in good shape" during his tryout before signing with the Steelers Tuesday.

The Steelers probably wouldn't have brought back Davenport if he was not in shape, but the 247-pounder has never been the most physically fit back. Dookie is a candidate for 6-10 touches and goal-line carries in Week 5.

Steelers re-signed RB Najeh Davenport.

Pittsburgh needs backfield help with Rashard Mendenhall and Willie Parker sidelined, and Davenport spent two seasons there before being let go in June. Depending on FB Carey Davis' status, Davenport could get a look in short-yardage situations as soon as Sunday, likely splitting time with Mewelde Moore and Gary Russell.

Cardinals GM Rod Graves says the team has no interest in free agent Najeh Davenport.

Najeh said he'd target the Lions and Cardinals as suitors, but his off-field past will work against him. The Cards also aren't in position to sign players other than their rookies. It's too bad, because this could've been a nice fit.

Free agent RB Najeh Davenport is reportedly interested in playing for the Lions and Cardinals.

No word on whether the interest is mutual, but both teams could obviously use a big back with Davenport's skills. The Browns would be another interesting land spot, but Davenport admitted that it's not an option because of his troublesome relationship with his son's mother in Cleveland.
