Free agent ILB Nick Barnett remains "on the Falcons' radar" after working out for the team in mid-June.
The team has signed Tim Dobbins and Pat Angerer since losing Sean Weatherspoon to a year-ending Achilles' tear, but could still use reinforcements pending the progress of Joplo Bartu and rookie Prince Shembo. Atlanta is switching to a 3-4 defense this season, in which two starting inside linebackers are required. Their lone entrenched starter is second-year UDFA Paul Worrilow. Free agent ILB Nick Barnett worked out for the Falcons.

The Falcons are looking at veteran options to help replace Sean Weatherspoon, with Barnett and Tim Dobbins visiting this week. Barnett appeared in 14 games with Washington last year before landing on I.R. with a torn MCL. Atlanta has also been linked to free agents Jonathan Vilma and Pat Angerer.

Redskins placed ILB Nick Barnett on injured reserve with a torn left MCL, ending his season.

A longtime starter for the Bills and Packers, Barnett served as a reserve linebacker and special teamer this season. He should be ready for spring practice. Barnett was playing on a one-year deal, so he's headed back to the open market. He'll have to be 100 percent healthy before generating any interest in free agency.

Redskins ILB Nick Barnett tore his left MCL in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys, and has been ruled out for Week 17.

A reserve, Barnett suffered the injury on special teams in the first quarter. He played just 70 snaps on defense this season. An impending free agent, Barnett should likely be ready for spring practice.

Redskins signed ILB Nick Barnett, formerly of the Bills, to a one-year contract.

Barnett, 32, had been in the D.C. area for the last two days. He was cut by the Bills in February with a "failed physical" designation, so the Skins wanted to make sure his knee was good to go. Barnett started all 16 games last season, grading out as a top-ten 4-3 outside linebacker per Pro Football Focus. He'll provide depth behind starting inside 'backers London Fletcher and Perry Riley.

Free agent LB Nick Barnett will visit the Redskins.

Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Barnett has "spent the last few months getting healthy." He had yet to make a visit since getting released with the "failed physical" designation by the Bills in February. Barnett started all 16 games last season.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, free agent Nick Barnett is "believed" to be on the Bears' radar.

It's unclear whether Chicago's interest died down after the D.J. Williams signing. Barnett, 32 in May, has experience at both middle and strong-side linebacker. The Bears tentatively expect Williams to replace Brian Urlacher in the middle, though his cheap contract suggests Williams is only lightly penciled in.

Nick Barnett's release from the Bills was officially listed as a failed physical on the league's transaction wire.

Barnett started all 16 games in each of the past two seasons, but he did miss 12 games in 2010 for the Packers due to a wrist issue. He underwent wrist surgery in October of 2010, but it hasn't been a problem since. Barnett also was limited in practices late this past season with a knee injury.

Bills released WLB Nick Barnett.

The move clears Barnett's $3.5 million base salary off the books and frees up just over $3 million in cap room. Barnett turns 32 in May, but graded out as a top-ten 4-3 outside linebacker in Pro Football Focus' 2012 ratings and should have some gas left in the tank. He's also "scheme versatile," having played in both 3-4 and 4-3 schemes. We suspect Barnett will find a starting job in 2013.

Bills agreed to terms with ILB Nick Barnett on a three-year, $12 million contract.

The Bills won't be rolling with underwhelming vets Reggie Torbor and Andra Davis after all. Barnett has plenty of experience at inside linebacker in Green Bay, and he's set to replace Paul Posluszny in Buffalo. A highly productive defender with sideline-to-sideline range, Barnett averaged 109 tackles in his first seven seasons with the Packers. He's a major upgrade. The Redskins are expected to turn to Channing Crowder now that Barnett is off the market.

Free agent ILB Nick Barnett is no longer scheduled to visit the Lions today.

We've seen rumors that Barnett decided to cancel his flight to Detroit that was scheduled for Saturday night, and has instead stayed in Buffalo. He appears close to a deal with the Bills and would be an immediate starter there.

According to Bills WR David Nelson's Twitter account, free agent ILB Nick Barnett was in Buffalo visiting the Bills on Saturday.

Previous reports indicated Barnett had a Saturday visit lined up, but the team was unidentified at the time. Nelson spilled the beans. Barnett isn't known to have agreed to a contract with the Bills, and if he wants to play for a contender he'll be in Detroit tonight before a Sunday physical with the Lions.

Updating a previous item, free agent LB Nick Barnett is visiting an unnamed team Saturday and will arrive in Detroit tonight.

Perhaps the unidentified club is the Chargers. The Lions will hope that Barnett doesn't stay in the city he's currently visiting, because they want to sign him and make him a starter. Barnett's Lions visit will occur on Sunday.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports free agent LB Nick Barnett is in Detroit on Saturday for a visit to the Lions' facility.

This deal might happen quickly. The Lions have been interested in Barnett since the lockout ended, and their pursuit looks to have piqued now that he's been cut and is an unrestricted free agent. His position in Detroit is unclear.

Updating previous items, Packers ILB Nick Barnett was formally released Friday.

The move clears over $6 million in salary. GM Ted Thompson says he'll continue to hold onto cap space in order to sign RG Josh Sitton, WR Jordy Nelson, and TE Jermichael Finley to extensions, either during camp or in-season. The Lions are known to be in the mix for Barnett. He's also been linked to San Diego.
