The Bengals are considering signing free agent TE Bubba Franks.
They're desperate with Reggie Kelly out for the year, and Ben Utecht and Daniel Coats banged up. Franks, 31, is no more than a blocker at this point. Wed, Aug 5, 2009 10:06:00 PM

Jets released TE Bubba Franks.

Franks was too banged up to practice after the Jets signed him in May. Now 31 with bad knees, Franks' future is in doubt. If Franks is done, the longtime Packer will finish with 262 career catches and 32 TDs in nine seasons.

Jets coach Rex Ryan revealed Thursday that TE Bubba Franks is suffering from a sore knee.

Franks sat out practice, and Ryan indicated that he may not return to the field until training camp. Franks won't have any fantasy value, but he's important to the Jets as their only quality blocking tight end.

Jets re-signed TE Bubba Franks to a one-year contract.

The Jets settled for Franks after scouring the free agent market for several months. The 31-year-old finished with just six catches for 47 yards last season and is likely to back up second-year pro Dustin Keller this season.

Jets TE Bubba Franks (hip) is practicing again and is probable for Sunday's game against the Titans.

It will be interesting to see how Franks is worked back in. It's been his absence that has allowed Dustin Keller to flourish in the passing game, so the Jets aren't likely to mess with what's working.

Jets coach Eric Mangini said the team has explored the tight end market, which the New York Daily News believes is a sign that Bubba Franks (hip) could be out for awhile.

Rookie Dustin Keller could have bigger role going forward, but Chris Baker (hip) is expected to return to action this week against the Bills.

According to the New York Daily News, there's a good chance Bubba Franks (hip) won't play Sunday against the Chiefs.

Franks left last week's game in the first quarter and hasn't practiced this week. The paper believes the injury could "be more serious" than previously thought.

Bubba Franks limped off the field against the Raiders near the end of the first quarter in Week 7.

Jets agreed to terms with TE Bubba Franks, formerly of the Packers.

Franks, 30, caught 18 passes for 132 yards (7.2 YPC) and three TDs in 2007 as Donald Lee's backup. He's slowed down quite a bit, but can still help in the run game. Franks will be the Jets' No. 2 tight end behind Chris Baker.

The player rep for free agent TE Bubba Franks expects his client to finalize a contract with a team by the end of the week.

The smart money is on Franks signing with the Seahawks, especially after they were apparently spurned by soon-to-be Titans TE Alge Crumpler. Franks can still block, but shouldn't be an every-down starter wherever he lands.

Packers released TE Bubba Franks.

When healthy, Franks was an effective blocker and red-zone option in '07, but his body is beginning to fall apart. Franks certainly wouldn't have been worth the $3.5 million he was due. Old pal Mike Holmgren could bring him on as a backup for around the minimum, but he's nowhere near starting caliber.

The Packers are expected to ask TE Bubba Franks to take a cut in pay.

He was an effective blocker when healthy in 2007, but chronic knee issues and a $3 million salary for 2008 have him on the bubble. Green Bay figures to decide Franks' future before March 1, when he's due a $500,000 bonus.

Packers TE Bubba Franks (knee) returned to practice Saturday.

Nickel corner and punt returner Will Blackmon (foot) did not practice and is uncertain to play against Seattle. Franks is expected to be available.

Packers TE Bubba Franks (knee) missed practice Friday.

Green Bay has limited Franks' practice participation recently, but he should play next week. Greg Jennings (ankle) was not on the Packers' preliminary injury report. Aaron Rodgers (hamstring) is back practicing, as expected.

Bubba Franks had 34 yards and a touchdown on three receptions in Week 17.

With Donald Lee inactive, there was a Bubba Franks sighting and he posted a season-high yardage total and his first touchdown since Week 3. Though no longer a viable fantasy option, a healthy Franks gives Brett Favre one more target for the playoffs.
