Former Lions and Rams CB Dre' Bly has retired from football.
Bly participated in player-organized workouts during the lockout this summer, but no teams came calling. Now 34 years old, the two-time Pro Bowler's 11-year career ends with 43 interceptions, five pick-sixes, and 20 forced fumbles. Bly was a rookie on the Rams' Super Bowl-winning 1999 team. Dre' Bly - DB - Lions

Free agent CB Dre' Bly is participating in Lions player-organized offseason workouts in hopes of making a comeback.

Bly, 34, was among the Lions' final cuts last year and never caught on elsewhere during the season. "I'm going to keep myself fresh just in case," he said. Bly admitted he's "never really been a special teams guy," which hurts his chances of a comeback. If this is it for Bly, the former Rams second-round pick would finish his career with 43 interceptions in 117 starts.

Lions released CB Dre' Bly, DB Dante Wesley, CB Eric King, CB T.J. Rushing, and K Steven Hauschka.

The Lions' secondary isn't going to impress anyone, but cutting ties with veterans Bly, King and Wesley is a sign that they've at least improved the talent level from last season. Hauschka was released after Jason Hanson proved to be back to full health.

Lions signed CB Dre' Bly to a two-year contract.

Though he's well past his Pro Bowl days, Bly showed at least competent cover skills in six starts and extensive action as San Francisco's nickel back last season. The 33-year-old should be able to win a roster spot in Detroit.

Coach Mike Singletary indicated that the 49ers will not consider re-signing free agent CBs Dre' Bly and Walt Harris.

"What we have is what we have," Singletary said. "I think we're OK with what we have." Harris has drawn interest from the Ravens, but Bly is not known to be on any team's radar at this point.

The 49ers cannot negotiate with free agent CB Dre' Bly until March 5 because he signed a one-year contract as a vested veteran last May.

The Niners will probably try to move on anyway. While Bly held up well (three INTs, 13 PBUs, two FFs) after supplanting Tarell Brown down the stretch, he turns 33 this offseason and may be overpaid on a thin free agent market.

49ers coach Mike Singletary confirmed that Dre' Bly will start over Tarell Brown at left corner this week.

Nate Clements was sent to the bench a few weeks back in favor of Brown, but that experiment isn't working out. Bly has more experience but doesn't provide much of an upgrade over Brown.

49ers CB Dre' Bly apologized to coach Mike Singletary Monday, and then publicly for his showboating play that ended in a fumble last Sunday.

Bly was tackled from behind after an interception while doing a Deion Sanders impression. Bly was unapologetic immediately after the game, saying "Dre''s going to be Dre'". It doesn't look like Bly will be benched for his actions, but it was a move totally unexpected from an 11-year veteran.

49ers CB Dre' Bly didn't apologize for his showboating play that ended in a fumble Sunday.

Bly picked off a pass and then put his hand behind his head like Deion Sanders. The only problem was he got caught from behind by Roddy White and fumbled. "Like I say, I'm going to be me," Bly said. "That's who I've been my whole life, that's who I was in college. I have fun. Dre's going to be Dre'." Expect coach Mike Singletary to discipline Bly once he sees the tape.

Dre' Bly is favored to win the 49ers' starting right cornerback job heading into the third preseason game.

It's a mild surprise because Tarell Brown was expected to win the job. But even at 32 years old, Bly has been able to hold off Brown and sixth-year man Shawntae Spencer. With a good performance Saturday in Dallas, Bly will likely be the Week 1 starter.

49ers CB Dre' Bly said he was "made the scapegoat" for Denver's defensive collapse last season.

The 32-year-old Bly went on the defensive about his horrible season with the Broncos in 2008. "I don't care who you are, if you don't have a pass rush and you're not aggressive on defense, they're gonna catch a ball," Bly said. He'll have a chance to prove he still has something in the tank as the No. 2 or 3 corner for the Niners.

49ers agreed to terms with CB Dre' Bly on a one-year contract.

The 32-year-old Bly received no interest on the free agent market, but the Niners were desperate after Walt Harris went down with a torn ACL. Tarell Brown will be the favorite to start, with Bly adding veteran insurance.

The 49ers are scheduled to host free agent CB Dre' Bly on Thursday.

This will be Bly's first visit since being released over three months ago. The 49ers want competition at right corner after likely losing Walt Harris for the season, but no matter who they bring in Tarell Brown is the favorite.

Broncos released CB Dre' Bly.

That's five defensive starters axed in two days. Including Monday's cuts, Denver has saved over $28 million against the salary cap. Bly was due $3.25 million in 2009 with a $6.5 cap charge, but he was a bust after the Broncos traded for him two years ago, getting burnt relentlessly one on one. Turning 32 this spring, Bly will be hard pressed to find a starting job as a free agent.

Dre' Bly revealed that he was easily able to read Tyler Thigpen in Week 14 because "When guys are covered, he doesn’t go to third or fourth options."

That's because the Chiefs don't have third and fourth options. "He looks to tuck that thing and run it," Bly said. "I knew the ball had to come out quick. I just read him the whole time." Bly actually played pretty well for once, but Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez still managed quality fantasy games.
