Free agent RB Ahman Green now says he's not retired and is planning to make a comeback attempt.
Green retired last August after being cut by the CFL's Montreal Alouettes, but he's since had second thoughts. "I've got at least five years left in me to play football," said Green, 35. Green says he's willing to play special teams to get a look. "Just put me anywhere," he said. "I'm a football player first. ... If a team wants to call me and show serious interest, I'll be ready." It's not happening. Thu, May 17, 2012 12:04:00 PM

Former Packers RB Ahman Green announced Friday that he is retiring from football.

Green was recently released by the CFL's Montreal Alouettes after playing last season with the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks. A well-rounded workhorse with blocking ability, pass-catching skills, and break-away speed in his prime, Green walks away as the Packers' all-time leading rusher with 8,322 of his career 9,205 yards. Green earned four trips to the Pro Bowl while setting Green Bay's single-season record with 1,883 yards and 20 TDs in 2003.

Ahman Green was released by the CFL's Montreal Alouettes after arriving at training camp with a hamstring injury.

Green joined the CFL in February, and he was expected to compete for the Alouettes starting job. At age 34, it's no surprise that injuries are dogging him again. Green rushed for 253 yards on 63 carries (4.0 YPC) in eight games with the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks last season. This could be the end of the line for Green, who made four straight Pro Bowls with the Packers in the early 2000s.

Former Packers RB Ahman Green has signed with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes.

Green managed 3.7 yards per carry on 68 rushing attempts for the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks last year, playing behind Dominic Rhodes, DeDe Dorsey, Cory Ross, Lorenzo Booker, and Marcel Shipp. We won't see Green back in the NFL.

Ahman Green has signed with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL.

The Nighthawks were targeting Green last week, and he played college ball at Nebraska. If the 33-year-old shows well, he could earn a December "call-up" to the NFL as a backup runner. Green has accumulated 12,088 yards from scrimmage and 74 TDs in his 12-year NFL career.

The Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL are reportedly targeting former Packers RB Ahman Green.

Green played collegiately for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, so perhaps it's something he'll consider after exhausting all chances of resurfacing in the big leagues. Interest in the 33-year-old has been scant to this point.

The Packers are not likely to bring back free agent Ahman Green, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

The Packers drafted James Starks, putting Brandon Jackson on notice and eliminating a need for Green. At age 33, Green won't garner much interest.

The Packers likely won't bring back unrestricted free agent RB Ahman Green if they draft a running back, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Running back won't be a high priority for the Packers on draft day, but they should be looking to upgrade on Green and third-down back Brandon Jackson. Green, 33, proved he has little left by averaging under 4.0 YPC last year.

Free agent Ahman Green said it "sounds like I’ll be back" with the Packers next season.

We'll see. The Packers' beat writers have already speculated that Green is a long shot to be on the team in 2010. He'll be 33 and would have a third-down/short yardage role at best.

Beat writer Rob Demovsky says Ahman Green "probably doesn’t have enough left in the tank" to come back for the 2010 season.

Green was signed off the street before Week 7 and ended up with a short-yardage role. At age 33 next season, he'll be used sparingly even if the Packers do keep him around.

Ahman Green (groin) has resumed practicing with the Packers.

Green missed two games with the groin injury, and Brandon Jackson performed well in his place. We expect Green to regain third-down duties, though it's far from a sure thing.

Packers declared RB Ahman Green, WR Biren Ealy, CB Josh Bell, S Matt Giordano, T Breno Giacomini, T Allen Barbre, LB Aaron Kampman, and DE Jarius Wynn inactive for Thanksgiving Day.

Brandon Jackson is the third-down back behind Ryan Grant. Mark Tauscher and Chad Clifton will start at the tackles. Kampman will go on I.R. next week.

Ahman Green (groin) is listed as doubtful for Thanksgiving.

Brandon Jackson will step into the third-down back job against Detroit. He had 10 touches in the role last week, but likely won't see as many Thursday. Green Bay can use more I-formations against a soft Lions run defense.

Ahman Green (groin) was held out of practice Tuesday.

Green suffered the injury late last week in practice, and he doesn't appear ready for game action. Expect Brandon Jackson to handle third-down duties for the second straight week.

Packers declared RB Ahman Green, WR Biren Ealy, S Matt Giordano, T Breno Giacomini, T Allen Barbre, DE Michael Montgomery, and LB Jeremy Thompson inactive for Week 11 against San Francisco.

Mark Tauscher starts at right tackle. Green Bay isn't missing any difference makers at home against the Niners. We like them to cover the 6.5-point spread.
