Bills released TE David Martin.
It was only a matter of time. Martin has always been a receiving specialist, and the Bills were using him primarily as a blocker. Rookie Lee Smith will take over that role behind Scott Chandler. Tue, Sep 27, 2011 04:04:00 PM

Bills coach Chan Gailey confirmed that newly acquired TE David Martin will be active and be part of the game plan against the Dolphins Sunday.

The Bills are rolling with just two healthy tight ends in Jonathan Stupar and Martin. The former Dolphin will have a bigger impact as a intelligence agent against his former team than a pass-catcher.

Bills signed TE David Martin, formerly of the Dolphins.

Martin is expected to replace J.P. Foschi on the roster. The signing is curious with Miami and Buffalo just days away from facing off in Week 1. The Bills should be able to get some quality intel from the 31-year-old vet.

Dolphins released TE David Martin.

The Dolphins are down to just Anthony Fasano and John Nalbone at tight end. Martin re-signed with the Dolphins early camp after missing all of last season with a knee injury. Now 31, he is nearing the end of the line.

Dolphins re-signed TE David Martin.

Martin spent almost all of last season on injured reserve before being waived with an injury settlement in December. He received no interest in free agency, and it's completely unclear what Martin has left at age 31 coming off a knee injury. He did average 14.5 yards per catch during the 2008 season.

Dolphins waived TE David Martin.

Martin had been on injured reserve after developing swelling in his knee prior to the season opener. He also underwent sports hernia surgery during the offseason. If healthy, the 30-year-old will be free to sign where he pleases after clearing waivers.

Dolphins placed TE David Martin (knee) on injured reserve.

Martin developed swelling around his knee and will likely need arthroscopic surgery. He split receptions and yardage evenly with Anthony Fasano last year, so Fasano should see a spike in consistent output this season.

Dolphins waived/injured TE David Martin.

Martin, 30, caught 31 balls for 440 yards and three TDs last year, but Sunday waiver claim Davon Drew has more upside. Martin's release means Anthony Fasano could run more vertical routes while Joey Haynos stays in to block as the No. 2 tight end. We like Fasano a bit more as a fantasy TE2.

Dolphins TE David Martin is "healthy and ready to go" after undergoing sports hernia surgery earlier in the offseason.

There were spring-time whispers that Martin's job could be in jeopardy if he was slow to recover from the surgery. Now healthy, he'll continue to be used on passing downs. Fifth-rounder John Nalbone may be ticketed for the practice squad as a result.

Dolphins TE David Martin's roster spot could be jeopardy this summer.

Martin, who underwent sports hernia surgery this offseason, is in the final year of his contract. Though he's a solid receiver, he reportedly missed too many blocking assignments last season. Anthony Fasano's numbers would see a nice uptick if Martin was released.

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano revealed that David Martin underwent sports hernia surgery earlier this offseason.

Sparano didn't say when the surgery took place or if it will affect Martin's availability for training camp. Martin, 30, is entering a contract season. Miami is high on third tight end Joey Haynos and also drafted John Nalbone behind Anthony Fasano. Martin probably isn't sure to make the roster.

Dolphins TE David Martin (head/neck) was limited in Friday's practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game.

Martin believes he may have suffered a concussion in Week 17, but he increased his workload Friday. If he can't go, Anthony Fasano should see an uptick in production.

Dolphins TE David Martin believes he suffered a concussion during the Week 17 game against the Jets.

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said only that Martin was "day-to-day" with a headache, but we would expect nothing else. NFL teams continue to downplay possible concussions.

David Martin caught two passes for 66 yards and a touchdown against the 49ers in Week 15.

Martin out-leaped the defender and then raced the rest of the way for an opening drive 61-yard touchdown. Martin is over 430 yards on the season, but he's a risky proposition in Week 16 at Kansas City.

David Martin wasn't targeted once in the Dolphins' Week 9 win.

Martin's usage on offense is dependent on Miami's game plan going in, and the Fins decided to attack the outside of Denver's defense rather than staying inside the hashes. Martin is a high-risk proposition even as a TE2.
