Ex-NFL S Darren Sharper has agreed to 20 years in prison as part of a plea deal on rape charges in New Orleans.
There was outrage after Sharper got off with only nine years in Arizona, but it appears Louisiana will hand down the stiffest sentence of the four states where Sharper has pleaded guilty to drugging and raping women. He'll serve his various sentences concurrently instead of consecutively as part of a "global" plea deal, meaning he could be roaming the streets again in 20 years. Sharper faced up to life in prison just for his charges in Los Angeles, so he's getting off light. Mar 23 - 2:49 PM

Ex-NFL S Darren Sharper pled guilty to sexual assault and attempted sexual assault in Arizona.

Sharper's plea comes with nine years in prison and lifetime probation, stemming from drugging women at a nightclub before raping them. He also faced similar charges in Los Angeles, New Orleans, Las Vegas and Arizona. Frankly, nine years seems short considering the heinous nature and broad scope of his crimes -- but it's worth noting that he's facing a life sentence if convicted of federal rape and drug charges in New Orleans. Sharper, 39, was a five-time Pro Bowler during his 14-year NFL career. He last played in 2010.

Former Saints safety and five-time Pro Bowl selection Darren Sharper plans to retire.

Just about to turn 36 in November, Sharper got a workout with the Broncos in September but there wasn't much interest in him around the league. A member of the NFL's All-Decade team for the 2000s, it is likely that he follows through on his plan to retire.

The Broncos will try out free agent S Darren Sharper on Tuesday.

This is our first Sharper post since August 27. The Broncos don't need safety help, so they might be doing Sharper's agent a favor. Sharper has little left in the tank after struggling in eight games last year. He turns 36 in November.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, "don't expect the Saints to bring back (free agent) Darren Sharper."

The Times-Picayune's Mike Triplett believes Jonathon Amaya has earned the Saints' No. 3 safety job behind Roman Harper and Malcolm Jenkins. Sharper has reportedly been staying in shape, and is still hopeful of playing in what would be his 15th NFL season.

The Patriots are scheduled to work out free agent safeties Darren Sharper and Renaldo Hill.

The Boston Globe hears coach Bill Belichick is "desperately" looking for a free safety after losing Jarrad Page to Philly and cutting Brandon McGowan. ESPN's Pat Yasinskas believes free agent S Darren Sharper's time in New Orleans could be done.

The Saints' are set at safety with Malcolm Jenkins and newly re-signed Roman Harper. It's unlikely that Sharper would sign on to be a strict backup. Then again, we haven't heard a whiff of any other team showing interest in the 35-year-old.
