Ex-NFL S Darren Sharper has agreed to 20 years in prison as part of a plea deal on rape charges in New Orleans.
There was outrage after Sharper got off with only nine years in Arizona, but it appears Louisiana will hand down the stiffest sentence of the four states where Sharper has pleaded guilty to drugging and raping women. He'll serve his various sentences concurrently instead of consecutively as part of a "global" plea deal, meaning he could be roaming the streets again in 20 years. Sharper faced up to life in prison just for his charges in Los Angeles, so he's getting off light. Mon, Mar 23, 2015 02:49:00 PM

Ex-NFL S Darren Sharper pled guilty to sexual assault and attempted sexual assault in Arizona.

Sharper's plea comes with nine years in prison and lifetime probation, stemming from drugging women at a nightclub before raping them. He also faced similar charges in Los Angeles, New Orleans, Las Vegas and Arizona. Frankly, nine years seems short considering the heinous nature and broad scope of his crimes -- but it's worth noting that he's facing a life sentence if convicted of federal rape and drug charges in New Orleans. Sharper, 39, was a five-time Pro Bowler during his 14-year NFL career. He last played in 2010.

He allegedly drugs women before sexually assaulting them, and has been in jail in Los Angeles for over a year. The 39-year-old also faces rape charges in New Orleans and Arizona in addition to L.A. and Vegas.

Sharper was additionally charged with simple rape of a different woman from August 2013. Sharper has also been investigated for rape in California, Arizona, Florida, and Nevada.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Renee Korn has again refused to release ex-NFL S Darren Sharper from jail.

Sharper is awaiting trial in L.A. after pleading not guilty to charges that he raped and drugged two women last year. His lawyers feel he should be released and placed under house arrest until he goes to trial. An April 15 hearing has been set. As we've mentioned numerous times, Sharper has sexual assault investigations pending in California, Arizona, Florida, Nevada, and Louisiana.

The NOPD warrant is for two counts of aggravated rape. Another man, Erik Nunez, 26, has also been arrested in connection to the rapes. If convicted of aggravated rape in Louisiana, Sharper could face life behind bars.

Ex-NFL S Darren Sharper has been charged with drugging and raping two women in Los Angeles.

These are felony charges. Sharper, 38, is accused of raping two women whom he had invited back to his hotel room. He reportedly gave them liquid shots containing Ambien and morphine, causing them to pass out. One woman woke up while Sharper was assaulting her, while the other woke up naked hours later. It's been requested that bail be set at $10 million because Sharper is being investigated for rapes in L.A., New Orleans, Nevada and Arizona. Sharper is currently employed by NFL Network but was suspended without pay last month.

Former Saints safety and five-time Pro Bowl selection Darren Sharper plans to retire.

Just about to turn 36 in November, Sharper got a workout with the Broncos in September but there wasn't much interest in him around the league. A member of the NFL's All-Decade team for the 2000s, it is likely that he follows through on his plan to retire.

The Broncos will try out free agent S Darren Sharper on Tuesday.

This is our first Sharper post since August 27. The Broncos don't need safety help, so they might be doing Sharper's agent a favor. Sharper has little left in the tank after struggling in eight games last year. He turns 36 in November.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, "don't expect the Saints to bring back (free agent) Darren Sharper."

The Times-Picayune's Mike Triplett believes Jonathon Amaya has earned the Saints' No. 3 safety job behind Roman Harper and Malcolm Jenkins. Sharper has reportedly been staying in shape, and is still hopeful of playing in what would be his 15th NFL season.

The Patriots are scheduled to work out free agent safeties Darren Sharper and Renaldo Hill.

The Boston Globe hears coach Bill Belichick is "desperately" looking for a free safety after losing Jarrad Page to Philly and cutting Brandon McGowan. He's continuing his due diligence since bringing in Dashon Goldson a week ago. Now 35 and coming off an injury-plagued season, Sharper's market never developed.

ESPN's Pat Yasinskas believes free agent S Darren Sharper's time in New Orleans could be done.

The Saints' are set at safety with Malcolm Jenkins and newly re-signed Roman Harper. It's unlikely that Sharper would sign on to be a strict backup. Then again, we haven't heard a whiff of any other team showing interest in the 35-year-old.
