Updating a previous item, Lions C Dominic Raiola restructured his contract, dropping his 2013 base salary from $4.05 million to $940,000.
Raiola agreed to the restructure two weeks ago, and it will likely keep the 34-year-old around for the final year of his deal. The salary is not guaranteed, though. The reduction saves the Lions $3.1 million against the 2013 cap. Raiola has made 68 consecutive starts. Feb 23 - 5:17 PM

Lions C Dominic Raiola has agreed to restructure his deal, which keeping him with the team in 2013.

Details are still unknown. Raiola's roster spot was in the "danger zone" at this time last week, as he was scheduled to count $6 million against the cap in the final year of his contract. The restructuring makes a lot of sense for both sides. Raiola, 34, has been with the Lions his entire career, and he's a team leader. Pro Football Focus graded Raiola as the league's No. 13 center in 2012.

MLive.com believes Lions C Dominic Raiola's roster spot is in the "danger zone."

Asked about Raiola's future Thursday, coach Jim Schwartz was evasive. "Our roster is still a work in progress," Schwartz said. GM Martin Mayhew added, "(If) I was going to restructure Dom's deal, I would talk to Dom about it first before I talked to you guys about it." Coming off his age-34 season, Raiola is due $4.05 million in 2013, and will count $6 million against the cap. It's the kind of deal that would make perfect sense for the "reloading" Lions to part with.

DetroitLions.com mentions C Dominic Raiola and RG Stephen Peterman as candidates for offseason release.

Raiola, 34, and Peterman, 31, are both entering the final years of their respective contracts and will collectively count $9 million against the salary cap. Detroit's 2013 money issues have been well-documented. The Lions could conceivably have four new starters along the offensive front, and the team's official website names Riley Reiff, Bill Nagy, and Jason Fox as potential replacements.

Lions signed C Dominic Raiola to a four-year, $20 million extension through 2013. The deal includes $9 million in guarantees.

Raiola was entering a contract year and has been a reliable starter for most of his eight seasons, but this isn't an attractive move. He's turning 31, missed four games to injury in 2008, and is undersized. With new OC Scott Linehan moving away from the Detroit's old zone-blocking scheme, Raiola will be asked to power run block more. He figures to struggle.

Lions C Dominic Raiola (thumb) will return to the lineup this week.

Raiola's return is excellent news for Kevin Smith, but Pat and Kevin Williams' trial is still in session. That's a make-or-break case for Smith's matchup.

The Lions hope C Dominic Raiola (thumb) can return in Week 12 against Tampa Bay.

Andy McCollum is filling in and helped Kevin Smith generate 123 total yards and a touchdown on 24 touches in Week 10. Smith did most of his damage in garbage time, however, and has four straight tough matchups coming up.

Lions C Dominic Raiola is out indefinitely with a fractured right thumb.

Perhaps the Lions' strength and conditioning staff should incorporate more thumb exercises into their stretching routines. Veteran Andy McCollum will take over inside. Raiola's consecutive starts streak will end at 104 games.
