The Detroit defense has not forced a turnover since Week 7.
The Lions have been unsuccessful in the turnover department in recent weeks, but have put together two solid defensive performances since their Week 9 bye. The first eight games of the 2015 saw Detroit allow 30.6 points per game, while they have given up just 29 total points over the last two weeks. Week 12 brings a matchup with Philadelphia QB Mark Sanchez, who has thrown four interceptions in 64 pass attempts this season. The Lions D/ST is a reasonable streaming option this week. The Detroit Lions will host the Oakland Raiders in Week 11, who have averaged 30 points per game over the last four weeks.

The Detroit defense turned in a solid Week 10 performance in an upset win at Green Bay, but won't be a fantasy option this week when they host the Oakland Raiders. The Oakland offense registers eighth among NFL teams in total offense, averaging 374.2 total yards each week. The Lions D/ST is not fantasy roster material right now.
Nov 21 - 2:34 AM

The Detroit Lions, who are last in the NFL in scoring defense, will travel to Green Bay in Week 10 to face the Packers.

The Detroit defense is allowing a beefy 30.6 points per game this season and 37.3 points per game over their last four contests. The timing for a trip to Lambeau Field is not good for Detroit, as Green Bay seemed to find its offensive rhythm late in Week 9 at Carolina. The Lions D/ST should remain comfortably on fantasy waiver wires this week and for the foreseeable future.
Nov 15 - 1:46 AM

The Detroit Lions are dead last among NFL teams in scoring defense, surrendering 30.6 points per game.

The Lions head into their Week 9 bye allowing 37.3 points per game over the last four weeks and have been underwhelming on the defensive side of the ball all season. Things won’t improve anytime soon with matchups against Green Bay and Oakland waiting on the other side of the bye. The Lions D/ST should remain safely on the waiver wire.
Nov 7 - 10:18 AM

The Detroit Lions have struggled to contain opposing quarterbacks in 2015, allowing a 73.3 completion percentage and NFL-worst 9.1 yards per pass attempt.

The Detroit defense will travel to London this week to take on QB Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Lions D/ST has tallied respectable sack and turnover totals this season, but hasn't made much of a fantasy impact with their inability to slow opposing offenses. This group will not be a recommended fantasy option in Week 8 and is not worth rostering with a bye upcoming in Week 9.
Oct 31 - 3:59 AM

The Detroit defense could be getting a key piece back this week, as DT Haloti Ngata (calf) returned to practice on Wednesday.

Ngata has missed the Lions' last two games with a calf injury but appears close to returning to game action. The return of Ngata would be a boost to the Detroit defensive front that is preparing to face Adrian Peterson and the sixth-ranked Minnesota Vikings rushing offense. The potential return of Ngata is promising but won't make the Lions D/ST a Week 7 fantasy option against Minnesota, as this group is allowing 386.8 total yards per game.
Oct 22 - 4:20 AM

The Detroit Lions defense will face the NFL's second-highest scoring offense this week when they host the Arizona Cardinals at Ford Field.

The Cardinals have scored 37 points per game in 2015 and will look to keep their offense rolling when they visit Detroit. The Lions D/ST has been solid with ten sacks and nine forced turnovers through four weeks, but this group will likely have a tough time slowing down Carson Palmer, as they have the ninth-worst pass defense among NFL teams this season. Even at home, the Lions D/ST won't be a starting caliber fantasy defense this week due to their matchup.
Oct 10 - 1:14 AM

The Detroit Lions may be facing the Seattle Seahawks without star running back Marshawn Lynch on Monday while he deals with a hamstring injury.

Detroit is not particularly stout against the run, giving up 112 rushing yards per game through three weeks. Missing a matchup against Lynch would be a bonus for the Lions D/ST, although Seattle backup Thomas Rawls filled in admirably in Lynch's absence last week. No matter who handles the running duties for the Seahawks, the Detroit D/ST will not be a startable fantasy option this week on the road as a double-digit underdog.
Oct 3 - 2:58 PM

DT Caraun Reid will make his 2015 debut on Sunday after missing the first two weeks of the season with an ankle injury.

Reid tried made the most of his time off, telling the Detroit News, "It's not frustrating. I learned a lot and everything is a blessing. You take it as it is, learn from it, grow from it and do what I can." The Lions D/ST could use the front-line help, as they are giving up 147 rushing yards per game through two weeks after coughing up 134 yards to Adrian Peterson in Week 2. The Lions defense won't be a recommended fantasy option in Week 3 when they host the Denver Broncos.
Sep 26 - 2:15 PM

The Detroit Lions allowed 404 passing yards to Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers in Week 1 as they fell to San Diego 33-28.

The 404-yard performance was the high yardage mark among NFL quarterbacks in Week 1, as the Lions defense could not contain Rivers and wide receiver Keenan Allen. After the dust settled in San Diego, Allen checked in with a healthy stat line of 15 receptions for 166 yards on 17 targets. The Detroit D/ST has another road game ahead, but will attempt to improve against Teddy Bridgewater and Minnesota, who struggled offensively on Monday night. The Lions D/ST is tempting in fantasy leagues this week due to the matchup with Minnesota, but remains a second-level option.
Sep 17 - 12:30 AM

The Detroit Lions will be without a crucial member of their linebacker group with DeAndre Levy (hip) likely to miss Week 1.

The Lions D/ST is not an advisable start on the road against Philip Rivers and the Chargers anyhow, but this development won't help their chances of containing Melvin Gordon and Danny Woodhead on Sunday. Detroit was the best NFL defense against the run in 2014, but their defensive front will look vastly different in Week 1 of 2015. Fantasy owners have plenty of waiver wire options at D/ST with better Week 1 outlooks.
Sep 10 - 2:21 AM

Detroit linebacker Tahir Whitehead spoke highly of the defensive effort from the Lions after a 17-10 win over the Bills in Week 4 of the preseason.

The fourth-year player told the Detroit Free Press, "Guys out there are constantly battling. They coach that in practice. They coach everyone getting to the ball and hustle and you control your effort." The Week 4 preseason game was primarily played by backups, but DC Teryl Austin's group did finish the preseason in solid fashion, not allowing Buffalo to score an offensive touchdown. A trip to San Diego awaits the Lions D/ST in Week 1.
Sep 5 - 4:29 PM

Lions DE Phillip Hunt "has been one of the team’s best pass rushers" this preseason according to the Detroit Free Press.

Hunt may be on the bubble when roster cuts roll around, but he has been a solid addition to the Detroit defensive line that is attempting to fill the void left by Ndamukong Suh. The Detroit D/ST group was a solid producer in fantasy leagues in 2014, but is being drafted 16th among fantasy defenses this summer. If the Lions can replace some of Suh’s impact with new DT Haloti Ngata, then the Detroit D/ST could provide value as a late-round selection.
