Free agent K Jeff Reed wants to return to the NFL.
Reed hasn't kicked in a game since 2010 when he made 24-of-32 field goals in 14 games with the Steelers and 49ers. The longtime Steelers kicker is still just 35 and owns an 82.2 career success rate on field goals. He says he's spoken with ex-Steelers OC Ken Whisenhunt and the Titans about a potential workout. The Chargers are reportedly interested in kickers Jeff Reed and Nick Novak to replace Nate Kaeding, who was lost for the year in Week 1.

Earlier today we heard they were eyeing Dave Rayner as well. Whoever San Diego ends up signing will draw some fantasy consideration in the Chargers' dynamic offense.

Seahawks released K Jeff Reed and DT Junior Siavii.

Reed connected on 4-of-5 preseason field goal attempts, but Seattle preferred Steven Hauschka's stronger leg. Siavii recorded 30 tackles in 14 games and six starts last season.

Seahawks agreed to terms with K Jeff Reed on a one-year contract.

Reed will battle 2008 seventh-rounder Brandon Coutu to replace veteran Olindo Mare. Owner of a career 82.2 percent success rate on field goals, Reed should be considered the favorite -- as long as he can stay out of the slammer for the next five weeks.

Free agent K Jeff Reed worked out for the Seahawks Tuesday.

Seattle has only the untested Brandon Coutu in camp after losing Olindo Mare to Carolina. Reed drilled 9-of-10 field goals in a late-season trial with the 49ers after being released by Pittsburgh at mid-season.

49ers signed K Jeff Reed, formerly of the Steelers.

It looks like Joe Nedney (knee) isn't healthy enough to return this week after all. The 49ers decided to go with the established veteran Reed after an unproven Shane Andrus blew two kicks in Monday night's game. After battling accuracy issues with the Steelers, Reed isn't even a top-20 fantasy option at Green Bay.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, free agent Jeff Reed turned down an offer to kick for the 49ers.

Stop the presses! It has been previously reported that Reed also snubbed the Bengals. He apparently wanted to take some time off and weigh his options, and we could see him resurface sometime later this season.

Former Steelers K Jeff Reed turned down an offer from the Bengals and one other team to kick this weekend.

"We had three calls and two offers," Reed's agent, Don Henderson said. "But we're not going to kick this weekend." Henderson said Reed will take the rest of the week off to consider his options. He still hopes to sign somewhere to finish out the season.

Former Steelers K Jeff Reed was not claimed on waivers Wednesday, and is now an unrestricted free agent.

Any team claiming him would've been on the hook for over $1 million of Reed's $2.814 million salary, so it's not surprising that no one took the leap. Reed could still catch on with a kicker-needy team in the coming weeks.

Steelers waived K Jeff Reed.

The move was first reported by Jay Glazer and has now been confirmed by many others. Reed has made just 15-of-22 field goal tries this season and missed a 26-yard chip shot Sunday, later blaming it on the turf at Heinz Field. It's possible the Bengals could scoop Reed up to replace the injured Mike Nugent. They surely won't care about Reed's history of off-field problems.

Ken Paxson of the Dayton Daily News suggests that the Bengals could pick up K Jeff Reed if he's cut loose by the Steelers.

Reed is in hot water in Pittsburgh after missing a 26-yard chip shot Sunday night -- his seventh miss in 22 tries this season. The Bengals are looking for a kicker with Mike Nugent out for the season and might decide Reed is a better option than someone like Matt Stover, Shaun Suisham or John Carney.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Steelers are "contemplating" cutting ties with K Jeff Reed.

Pittsburgh will host multiple free agent kickers on Tuesday. Reed shanked a 26-yard field goal in Sunday night's loss to the Patriots, blaming the Heinz Field home turf. Reed, who received the franchise tag this past offseason, has now missed seven field goals this year. Remarked Reed of Steelers fans after the Week 10 loss, "They started (mocking me) before the game even started. ... They buy tickets just to bash me and P Dan (Sepulveda) and LS Greg (Warren). It's more me because points come off my foot."

Jeff Reed missed a potential game-winning 40-yard field goal with 39 seconds left in regulation on Sunday.

Reed was taken off the hook when the Steelers won the game in overtime, but this won't help him get that new contract he wants. Reid does have eight career game-winning kicks, which is a big reason he's still in Pittsburgh despite all his off-field issues.

Steelers franchise player K Jeff Reed ripped the organization Saturday, saying he was misled about their intention of signing him to a long-term deal.

Reed is none too happy about the $2.814 million he'll make this season on a one-year tender. "I understand business moves, but I'm not a big fan of lying," Reed said. "I'm really disappointed ... extremely ... little bit bitter." The Steelers don't need this from their kicker, especially from one that has had his share of off-field problems.
Sun, Aug 1, 2010 09:02:00 AM

Steelers franchise player Jeff Reed believes he has a "fifty-fifty" chance to sign a long-term deal by the July 15 deadline.

"I want it to happen — they want it to happen — but I'm not just going to sign anything," said Reed. If the sides don't agree to a deal by mid-July, Reed will play out the season on his franchise tender and become a free agent next year.
