Raiders released DE Kalimba Edwards.
Edwards clears $2.5M in cap room, bringing the days savings to $6.2M against the salary cap. Though he was solid early with five sacks, Edwards was slowed by a triceps injury down the stretch. He shouldn't any problem catching on elsewhere as a situational pass rusher. Fri, Feb 20, 2009 07:15:00 PM

Raiders RE Kalimba Edwards (wrist) has been ruled out for Week 17.

Edwards signed a cheap, two-year deal last offseason and proved worth it. He posted a solid five sacks despite seeing more attention than usual with Derrick Burgess battling a triceps injury for months. While Edwards would preferably not start because he's weak against the run, he did well to resurrect his career in 2008 and will have a big role next season.

Raiders DE Kalimba Edwards (groin) is expected to make his season debut Sunday.

The Raiders hope Edwards will give the pass rush a boost against Damon Huard and the Chiefs.

Kalimba Edwards opened Organized Team Activities as the Raiders' starting right defensive end.

He's there over Greg Spires. Jay Richardson opened at left end with Derrick Burgess absent. The Lions couldn't get any production out of Edwards, but perhaps coordinator Rob Ryan can. It isn't ability Edwards is lacking.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the Oakland Raiders have signed free agent DE Kalimba Edwards, formerly of the Lions.

The latest in a string of Raiders' off-season purchases is expected to receive a two-year deal for $5 million. Edwards' six-year career has been notable for its incredible inconsistency. He can look like a potential sack leader one week and be riding the bench a week or two later. For now, he's the favorite to start at right end, ahead of second-year DL Jay Richardson.

The Titans hosted free agent DE Kalimba Edwards and S Chris Crocker on Monday.

If there's a line coach not named Rod Marinelli in the league that might be able to get something out of Edwards, it's the Titans' Jim Washburn. Crocker would be a fine special teams addition and backup for SS Chris Hope.

Lions released DE Kalimba Edwards.

The Lions gave Edwards a huge contract two seasons ago in hopes that he'd develop into something more than a situational pass rusher, but it never happened. He was scheduled to make $3.9 million this season.

Lions DE Kalimba Edwards doesn't anticipate returning to the team in 2008.

He'll likely be released. The wrap on Edwards is that he's a tireless worker and looks good in practice, but just doesn't make plays in games. He wound up being inactive on game days down the stretch in 2007.

Lions DE Kalimba Edwards was a healthy scratch on Sunday.

Edwards signed a huge deal with the Lions in 2006, and has never lived up to it despite the Lions' best efforts to coach him. His career in Detroit seems to be ending. LB Boss Bailey missed the game with the flu.

Lions DE Kalimba Edwards has lost his starting job.

Edwards is healthy and active, but has lost his starting job to Jared DeVries. Dewayne White has moved over to right defensive end to take on left tackles. Edwards will probably be used as a situational pass rusher.

DE Kalimba Edwards practiced on Thursday and reported no soreness in his injured knee.

Edwards hopes to play on Sunday, but the Lions expressed optimism in backup Corey Smith, who has started in Edwards place. Coming off a strong defensive showing against the Bears, the Lions brass may not be inclined to rush the injury-prone Edwards back to the lineup.

Lions DE Kalimba Edwards (knee) is listed as doubtful for Week 8.

Usual nickel DE Corey Smith is likely to make another start in his place. Edwards' play and durability have both been disappointing this season.
