Recent News's Alex Marvez "gets the feeling" recently-retired free agent K Jason Hanson would listen if asked about kicking in-season.
Hanson, 43 in June, reiterated to Marvez that he only wanted to play for Detroit. The Lions inked 38-year-old David Akers last week, and they also signed Norwegian trick-kick artist Havard Rugland. If neither works out, there's a good chance they'd give Hanson a call. Hanson is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his plant foot, which caused him to retire last week. Sat, Apr 13, 2013 04:07:00 PM

Free agent K Jason Hanson announced his retirement.

Hanson, 42, spent all 21 seasons of his career with the Lions. He had an 82.4 percent success rate over that time, connecting on 55.9 percent of his kicks from 50-plus yards out. Hanson cites a foot injury as the main reason he is finally hanging up the cleats, and the Lions' unwillingness to offer much more than the veteran's minimum to bring him back for a 22nd season likely also contributed to his decision. Detroit is now looking for a new punter and kicker.

The Lions' contract negotiations with free agent K Jason Hanson "so far have gone nowhere."

The Lions have stepped up efforts to replace Hanson and will host David Akers for a free-agent visit this week. After banging home 32 of his 36 field goal tries last season, Hanson may want Phil Dawson money (one year, $2.35 million).

The agent for free agent K Jason Hanson said the Lions have not made an acceptable offer yet.

There's no urgency here as Hanson isn't going to play for anyone other than Detroit -- his home for the last 21 seasons. But perhaps he isn't willing to kick for the veteran minimum after all. Hanson made $2.55 million in 2012.

The Lions are currently working on re-signing free agent K Jason Hanson.

Hanson, 43 in June, informed the Lions last week that he plans to continue his career, and it's expected that the two sides will work something out. Last season, Hanson converted 32-of-36 field goal attempts. He'll likely score a one-year deal at the veteran's minimum.

Free agent K Jason Hanson has decided that he wants to play another season.

Hanson will turn 43 in June and has 21 seasons under his belt. But he was solid once again last year, making 18-of-22 field goals from 40-plus yards out and 32-of-36 overall. Hanson previously said he'd be willing to re-sign with the Lions for the veteran minimum of $940,000.

Free agent K Jason Hanson is still undecided on playing a 22nd NFL season.

Hanson is still kicking at an extremely high level, and the Lions have been clear they want him back. "I told them I really want to take my time and make sure that I’m not making a mistake by coming back and not going to regret that I left if I do," he said. Hanson expects to make a decision in the next few weeks.

Lions GM Martin Mayhew remains optimistic that free agent K Jason Hanson will not retire this offseason.

Hanson is coming off another solid year that saw him convert 32-of-36 field goals -- including an impressive 18-of-22 mark from 40-plus yards out. Although he'll be 43 in June, the Lions want him back for a 22nd season. Hanson said he's willing to play for the 10-year veteran minimum, which will be $940,000 in 2013.

Lions K Jason Hanson doesn't think he's going to retire this offseason.

Hanson, an impending free agent, will turn 43 in June and is wrapping up his 21st year with the Lions. You wouldn't know how old he is by watching him kick, however. Hanson is 31-of-35 on the season and 17-of-21 from 40-plus yards out. His 128 points are the most he's scored since 1995. "It's a commitment and I'm not going to do it unless I feel like I can and I'm going to work like I always have," Hanson said. "You take that break (after the season but) when you start up, from OTAs to now it's a lot of work. So again, I'll really process it. Those are the conversations that'll take place."

Jason Hanson has won the Lions placekicker job, as expected.

Undrafted rookie Derek Dimke was cut on Monday. Hanson is 42, but still has one of the most powerful legs in the game. He has gone 8-for-11 on field goals of 50-plus yards over the last two seasons and is aided by the Ford Field dome.

Jason Hanson, 42, says he is still comfortable kicking field goals from up to 60 yards out.

The only "competition" Hanson has this summer is undrafted rookie Derek Dimke. He'll once again ride the ideal conditions inside Ford Field and the Lions' explosive offense to a strong fantasy finish. Over the last two seasons, Hanson has made 8-of-11 kicks from 50-plus yards out.

Jason Hanson expects to face competition for the Lions' placekicking job this offseason.

Hanson hit 24-of-29 field goals in 2011, but will be 42 in June. He beat out Dave Rayner to retain the gig in last year's training camp. "I think the days of not having competition are over, because I'm old and they're probably always wondering when's the day when he falls to the ground," Hanson said.

Jason Hanson intends to return to Detroit for a 21st season in 2012.

Hanson connected on 24-of-29 (82.8 percent) field goals as a top-10 fantasy kicker. The franchise's all-time leading scorer (2,016 points) became only the sixth kicker in NFL history to reach 400 field goals and the first with 50 50-yarders in his career. Hanson is due $2.55 million in the last year of his contract.

Jason Hanson (knee) connected on both his field-goal attempts in Sunday's loss to the Bears.

Hanson's knee did not appear to be an issue. He figures to score much better in a home game against the Panthers next week. The Lions passed on some short field goals yesterday due to the lopsided score.

Jason Hanson (knee) was upgraded to a limited practice on Thursday.

Hanson's plant knee required stitches after an accident playing with his kids during the bye week. The Lions have worked out a few kickers, but there's been no signing as of yet.
