Rams released DE James Hall.
Hall is the fifth Rams veteran to be jettisoned ahead of Tuesday's start of free agency, and the third defensive lineman. Still a productive pass rusher, Hall was due a reasonable $2.75 million, but doesn't make sense for a rebuilding club at the age of 35. He likely won't approach the 737 snaps he played in 2011 next season, but should draw interest as a pass-rushing specialist. Mon, Mar 12, 2012 05:26:00 PM

Rams DE James Hall played through a broken hand in Sunday's win over the Panthers.

Hall doesn't plan on missing any time. The veteran pass rusher is on his way to a career season with 6.5 sacks through eight games.

Rams DE James Hall registered four tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in the Rams' Week 4 victory over the Seahawks.

The former Wolverine feasted on LT Tyler Polumbus' inability to protect Matt Hasselbeck's blind side after starting tackle Russell Okung left the game with ankle soreness. St. Louis looks to have made a fine acquisition in Hall, who is now on pace for 16 sacks and 12 forced fumbles in 2010.

Rams agreed to terms with DE James Hall on a three-year, $8.25 million contract.

Hall is 33 and nearing the end of the line, but has 11.5 sacks over the last two seasons and is a valuable rotational rusher in Steve Spagnuolo's pressure-heavy scheme. Hall would be best served playing limited snaps at this stage of his career. The defensive line remains a need area for St. Louis.

Saints GM Micky Loomis said that there were "no developments" regarding free agent DE James Hall, who visited New Orleans last Thursday.

At 33, Hall isn't garnering much interest on the open market and the Saints and Rams are the only team he's been linked to. The Saints know they can see what else is out there and are expected to host Hall's teammate, free agent Leonard Little.

Free agent DE James Hall has a visit planned with the Saints on Thursday.

The Rams expressed a desire to bring Hall back, but it could be hard to turn down the Super Bowl champs. Hall, 33, has 11 sacks in his last 30 games. He'd be part of the rotation filling Charles Grant's void in New Orleans.

In addition to Leonard Little, the Rams also want to bring back free agent DE James Hall.

The 33-year-old was solid last season, registering 4.5 sacks and holding his own against the run. He won't be highly sought after on the open market, so the sides should be able to work out an agreement.

Rams declared DL James Hall, WR Brandon Gibson, OG John Greco, CB Justin King, QB Keith Null, OT Phillip Trautwein, OG Roger Allen and WR Ruvell Martin inactive for Week 7.

Hall suffered a groin injury in the third quarter last week and hasn't made much progress. Other than that, the Rams are relatively healthy for their Week 7 meeting with the Colts.

Rams DE James Hall suffered a groin injury against the Jaguars in Week 6 and missed the fourth quarter and overtime.

Hall had one sack before leaving. He's part of a rotation with Chris Long and Leonard Little on the Rams' defensive line.

James Hall started over Chris Long at right defensive end in the Rams' Week 1 loss to the Seahawks.

Along with Leonard Little, the Rams used a three-end rotation like new coach Steve Spagnuolo used to do with Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, and Mathias Kiwanuka. Unfortunately for the Rams, the St. Louis ends aren't half as good players. The Rams didn't sack Matt Hasselbeck once Sunday.

Rams beat writer Jim Thomas says James Hall could become a poor man's Justin Tuck in Steve Spagnuolo's defense.

Spagnuolo loves to use four defensive ends on the line in passing situations. Hall led the Rams in sacks last year with 6.5 and will be one of those ends rushing from the interior. The Rams will rush the passer much harder and more often than they did under Jim Haslett and Lovie Smith.

Rams re-signed DE James Hall to a two-year contract.

In 15 starts last season, the 31-year-old Hall showed he has little left. St. Louis got a total of 5.5 sacks from its defensive ends, and Hall had 2.5. If the Rams let this move affect their draft plans, they're making a big mistake. Hall might be better used as an interior wave rusher off the bench.

Free agent DL James Hall is visiting with the Vikings on Friday.

The Bills courted Hall on Thursday, but he was allowed to leave Buffalo without a deal. The Vikings need depth at defensive end. He wouldn't start.

The Bills are hosting DL James Hall for a free agent visit on Thursday.

Hall, 31, showed very little as a starting defensive end in St. Louis last season. The Bills may be considering him as an interior pass rusher.

Rams released DE James Hall.

The move immediately saves St. Louis $3.5 million, but leaves the Rams without a realistic bookend for Leonard Little. If Chris Long falls into the Rams' laps at No. 2 in April, there's probably no way they could pass. Hall, 31, is injury prone and had only 2.5 sacks last year. His tank is close to E.
