Howard Balzer of The Sports Xchange reports that free agents Mike Anderson and Shane Olivea have both been suspended by the NFL.
Anderson's suspension spans a full year. He would be 36 if he played in 2009, so we definitely don't expect to see him again. Olivea's is only for four games and because he is young and has starting experience, he'll likely still find work. A team could sign him, keep him on the reserve/suspended list through Week 4, then drop another player and activate Olivea in-season. Fri, Jun 20, 2008 05:57:00 PM

Ravens released RB Mike Anderson.

The move saves $1.3 million in cap room and leaves Willis McGahee without a backup. Anderson will be 35 before the upcoming season, but doesn't have the mileage on his tires players his age normally do. He could land in Houston to replace Ron Dayne as a short-yardage back.

Mike Anderson (thigh) was "extremely limited" in Ravens practice Friday.

Anderson is listed as questionable on the injury report and will be a game-time decision Sunday. Expected starter Musa Smith would see all the carries in the Ravens' backfield against Pittsburgh if Anderson is sidelined.

Mike Anderson (thigh) was limited in practice Thursday.

If Anderson is well enough, he's slated to be Musa Smith's backup against the Steelers. If he isn't, usual return man Cory Ross will assume that role.

Ravens RB Mike Anderson went out in the second half with a hamstring injury.

Anderson was effective and the most carries in relief of the injured Willis McGahee, but if he is out, Musa Smith could end up being the Week 17 starter.

Mike Anderson rushed eight times for 44 yards and caught one pass for 10 yards. He also had a fumble in Week 16.

Anderson entered the game with only seven total attempts, but he was surprisingly quick to the line, though his fumble was returned for a touchdown. He was more efficient than Musa Smith, who had seven attempts for 25 yards, but the duo will likely split carries if Willis McGahee is out for Week 17.

Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun suggests that Mike Anderson should take over short-yardage carries from Willis McGahee.

It’s pointed out that Mike Anderson was a solid short-yardage runner in Denver and McGahee tiptoes too much inside the red zone. Anderson should be fresh at this point in the season and McGahee’s fantasy value would take a hit if he started to lose carries.

Ravens declared RB Mike Anderson, K Rhys Lloyd, RB Cory Ross, LB Edgar Jones, QB Troy Smith, DE Trevor Pryce, CB Samari Rolle, and LT Jonathan Ogden inactive for Week 4.

Dwan Edwards takes Pryce's place and Corey Ivy moves into the lineup for Rolle. Musa Smith continues to back up Willis McGahee.

Ravens declared RB Mike Anderson, RB Cory Ross, TE Daniel Wilcox, LT Jonathan Ogden, K Rhys Lloyd, CB Samari Rolle, DL Trevor Pryce, and QB Troy Smith inactive for Week 3.

Anderson has fallen behind Musa Smith on the Ravens' depth chart and can be dropped in all leagues. Dwan Edwards takes Pryce's place on the end. Usual nickel CB Corey Ivy will make his first start since 2005 in place of Rolle, which helps the cause of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.

Mike Anderson missed his second straight day of practice Saturday because of personal issues. He may miss Monday night's game.

Musa Smith would be Willis McGahee's backup against the Bengals if Anderson is out. The Ravens only carry three tailbacks.

Mike Anderson has outplayed Musa Smith in their competition to be the Ravens' top backup running back during training camp.

Smith still should have a role on third downs, but Anderson is the favorite to start if Willis McGahee gets hurt. Anderson also may help in short yardage and should benefit from Baltimore's implementation of more zone-based blocking schemes, which he ran behind in Denver.
