The Tennessee Titans are one of six NFL teams that failed to record a sack in Week 1.
Pressuring the opposing quarterback has been a point of emphasis from coach Mike Mularkey this week for the Titans. "If you want to look at teams that get sacks and don't, you'll look at the win-loss column. That ratio is definitely a factor in the outcome of the game," Mularkey said. The Nashville Tennessean notes that the Titans averaged 3.33 sacks per game in wins last season and only 2.23 sacks in losses. The Titans D/ST will be off the fantasy radar in Week 2 at Detroit. The Titans will face one of Indianapolis' many backup quarterbacks in Week 17 with Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck, and Charlie Whitehurst injured.

A starter has yet to be named for the Colts, but the candidates include Josh Freeman, Ryan Lindley, and Stephen Morris. It's not a pretty situation for Indianapolis, and vaults the Titans D/ST into the streaming conversation for Week 17. The Titans D/ST is owned in just 12 percent of Yahoo leagues and is worth picking up for fantasy teams in need of defensive help this week.

With QB Brian Hoyer dealing with a concussion, the Houston Texans will likely be led by QB Brandon Weeden in Week 16 against Tennessee.

Weeden turned in a decent performance in Week 15 after taking over for the injured T.J. Yates (knee), but Tennessee will still be in a favorable position with Weeden drawing the start. Of the numerous NFL teams facing backup opposing quarterbacks this week, the Titans are at the back of the pack in terms of preference when streaming fantasy defenses. Tennessee has coughed up 34.0 points per game over the last three weeks but are still worth checking out as a potential streamer for fantasy teams in need.

The Tennessee defense has forced just five turnovers in the last five weeks while allowing 27.8 points per game.

The Titans have struggled defensively and their turnover issues won't be solved this week when they face the New England Patriots, who have given the ball away just 12 times this season. The matchup on the road at New England is a rough one for the Titans D/ST that won't be anywhere near the fantasy radar this week. A home date with Houston in Week 16 is more appetizing but this group has not played well in recent weeks.

Tennessee CB Perrish Cox was tabbed as a key player for the Titans in Week 14 by the Nashville Tennessean as he is expected to spend time covering Brandon Marshall.

The Tennessee defense allowed a big game to Jacksonville's Blake Bortles in Week 13, and Cox was part of the group that allowed Allen Robinson to explode for 153 yards and three touchdowns. Cox will now see Brandon Marshall in Week 14, who has 83 catches and 1,062 receiving yards already this season. The Titans D/ST will be a middling Week 14 fantasy option on the road against the Jets.

Tennessee has allowed more than 100 rushing yards just once since Week 7.

The success against the run has not translated into wins, but it is encouraging for the Tennessee defense. "It’s about fitting our gaps, being where we’re supposed to be, which has been a big emphasis. If you get one guy out of a gap, you’re going to get smoked. Our guys have done a good job of fitting the gaps real well," said coach Mike Mularkey. The Titans D/ST has also racked up 20 sacks over the last five weeks and will be a back-end top-10 fantasy option on Sunday against Jacksonville.

The Tennessee defense has racked up 13 sacks over the last three weeks.

The Titans currently sit fourth among NFL defenses in sacks, with 31 on the season. Week 12 will bring a difficult challenge for the Titans, as the Oakland Raiders have allowed just 13 sacks in 2015, tied for the fewest in the league. "Those guys are number one in the league not giving up sacks and we’re (fourth) in getting sacks, so it’s going to be a great match-up," said Titans LB Brian Orakpo. The Titans D/ST is a middle-of-the-road fantasy option this week against Derek Carr and the Raiders.

The Nashville Tennessean tabbed LB Brian Orakpo as one of the keys to Thursday's game between Tennessee and Jacksonville.

Orakpo will face off with Jaguars T Luke Joeckel as he attempts to continue his solid pass rushing contributions. The Titans LB has four sacks over his last three games and is a valuable member of the Tennessee D/ST that has 27 sacks in 2015. The Titans D/ST will be a top-10 fantasy option in Week 11 as they travel to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars, who have allowed 28 sacks in nine games.

The Tennessee Titans will face the Carolina Panthers and their league-leading rushing attack in Week 10.

The Carolina offense averages 142.3 rushing yards per game and is led by the bruising duo of Cam Newton and Jonathan Stewart. Tennessee has been mediocre against the run in 2015 slotting 17th among NFL defenses in run defense, but has given up just 117 total rushing yards over the last two weeks. The Titans D/ST will face a stiff test on Sunday and will be just outside the top-12 fantasy options in the matchup with Carolina.
Fri, Nov 13, 2015 02:58:00 AM

The Tennessee defense could be without cornerback Jason McCourty on Sunday, who is dealing with a groin injury.

Anything less than a fully healthy secondary will be an issue for the Titans as they travel to New Orleans to face Drew Brees, who threw for 505 yards and seven touchdowns in Week 8. The Titans D/ST will not be an advisable fantasy start this week on the road against the Saints.
Sat, Nov 7, 2015 03:15:00 AM

The Tennessee Titans will be facing a committee of Houston running backs when they take on the Texans without RB Arian Foster.

Foster is out for the season with an Achilles' injury, leaving Alfred Blue, Chris Polk, and Jonathan Grimes to handle the rushing duties for Houston. "When I saw them earlier, without Foster, they played all three of their backs and they’re all quality NFL backs. I think there’s only one Foster. But I don’t think you can sleep on any of them, to be honest with you. And I expect them to use all three of them," said Titans assistant coach Dick LeBeau. The Titans D/ST will be a startable Week 8 fantasy option on the road against the Texans.

The top-ranked pass defense of the Tennessee Titans will face Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7.

The Titans lead the NFL, allowing just 184 passing yards per game so far this season. Ryan and the Falcons will certainly provide a challenge for Tennessee, as Julio Jones has carried the Atlanta passing game to an average of 277.3 yards per game, good for eighth among NFL offenses. While the Titans D/ST has been a decent fantasy option so far in 2015, they will be just outside of the Week 7 top-12 as they face the Falcons offense and dynamic running back Devonta Freeman.

The Tennessee Titans will face the Miami Dolphins in Week 6, who rank 28th among NFL teams with an average of 314.8 total yards per game this season.

The Dolphins are coming off a bye and will look to get their offense rolling under new coach Dan Campbell. The Titans are the top NFL team in terms of pass defense in 2015, allowing a mere 166.5 yards per game through the air. Miami QB Ryan Tannehill, who is completing a horrendous 56.7 percent of his passes on the year, will likely have a hard time moving the ball, making the Titans D/ST a top-10 fantasy option in Week 6.

With LeSean McCoy (hamstring) and Karlos Williams (concussion) ruled out for Week 5, the Tennessee Titans will face running backs Anthony Dixon and Dan Herron on Sunday.

Tennessee hasn't been great against the run so far in 2015, allowing 4.3 yards per carry to opposing rushers, but will catch a break with Buffalo's top two running backs out this week. The Buffalo running game is sixth in the NFL with 128.3 rushing yards per game through four weeks, so the Titans will look to slow this attack as it plays without its top weapons. The Titans will be a top-12 fantasy option this week at home against the Bills.
Sat, Oct 10, 2015 01:09:00 AM

The Tennessee Titans will enjoy their bye week in Week 4, with the DC Ray Horton's group having success against opposing quarterbacks through the first three weeks.

The Titans have had surprising success against the pass in 2015, allowing just 194.7 yards per game through the air, good for fifth best in the NFL. The Tennessee defense has also allowed the lowest opponent completion percentage this season, giving up completions on just 53.8 percent of opposing pass attempts. A home date with Tyrod Taylor and the Buffalo Bills is on the schedule for the Titans D/ST after the bye.
