Former Giants RB Reuben Droughns has reportedly taken a spot on the coaching staff with Vukovi of the Central European Football League.
This apparently seals his retirement. Droughns, still only 31, was under investigation by the DEA for allegedly growing marijuana in his house the last we'd heard of him. It's probably smart that he's left the country. Wed, May 26, 2010 01:03:00 PM

Former Giants RB Reuben Droughns is reportedly under investigation by the Drug Enforcement Agency for growing marijuana in his house.

Droughns, who didn't get any sniffs from NFL teams after the Giants cut him last February, claims to be growing the pot for medicinal reasons. The DEA is predictably skeptical. Though Droughns does not have a medical marijuana card, his mother and brother do. He has not yet been arrested.

Giants released RB Reuben Droughns.

Droughns, 30, is still a quality special teamer, but his days as a ball-carrying asset are over. He didn't touch the football once last season after curiously vulturing many of Brandon Jacobs' short-yardage carries in 2007.

Giants RB Reuben Droughns will not need surgery on his neck despite originally expecting he would.

Relegated to special teams duty, Droughns didn't receive a single carry in 2008. The 31-year-old has a roster bonus due March 1, which makes him a candidate for the chopping block.

Giants placed RB Reuben Droughns (neck) on injure reserve, ending his season.

Now strictly a special teamer, Droughns was the odd man out when the team needed a roster spot for newly signed Derek Hagan. With a roster bonus due March 1, don't expect to see Droughns back in a Giants uniform barring a pay cut. He will turn 31 just before the start of the 2009 season and there's not much left in the tank.

Reuben Droughns was deactivated for Sunday Night Football due to neck stiffness.

He's normally active ahead of Danny Ware for special teams purposes. Droughns is the Giants' No. 4 tailback and doesn't have a carry this season.

The New York Post suggests that Reuben Droughns is unlikely to make the Giants' 53-man roster.

The Jints paid Droughns a $250,000 bonus in March, but he's barely carried the ball this preseason. He blocked a punt against Cleveland Monday to help his chances, but Danny Ware's play could make Droughns expendable.

Reuben Droughns could be on the roster bubble in training camp.

The Giants paid Droughns a $250,000 bonus on March 1 and he could make the club as a No. 4 back because of his special teams work, but won't pass Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward, or Ahmad Bradshaw on the depth chart. If Droughns is cut or traded, it would be good news for Jacobs' fantasy value. Droughns was surprisingly the Giants' preferred goal-line option in 2007.

Reuben Droughns is due a $250,000 roster bonus on March 1.

He probably won't get it. Droughns still has some short-yardage and special teams value, but the Giants are set with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw as their 1-2. If they can't hang onto free agent Derrick Ward, the Jints could go with Danny Ware or Kay-Jay Harris as a cheap third stringer.

Reuben Droughns rushed three times for 34 yards in Week 14.

On a short yardage play, Droughns busted through the line for a 35-yard scamper, but was caught from behind at the one-yard line and could not punch it on two subsequent carries. Droughns could vulture a touchdown or two in the closing games, but he is not a viable flex option with Brandon Jacobs back.

Reuben Droughns ran ten times for 25 yards and a touchdown in Week 13.

Droughns came in after Derrick Ward left with a leg injury and scored the game-winning touchdown. He could see significant work based on the injury status of Derrick Ward and Brandon Jacobs.

Reuben Droughns rushed 15 times for 46 yards and one touchdown in Week 12 against the Vikings.

Getting the start with Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward both sidelined, Droughns had some nice gains early and found the end zone from short yardage in the first quarter. However, the Vikings' run defense predictably ended up making life tough on him and he got just three carries in the second half as the Giants went into catch-up mode.

Reuben Droughns will start in Week 12 if Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) and Derrick Ward (ankle, groin) are unable to play.

Jacobs and Ward both look questionable at best to face the Vikings Sunday. Ward hasn't played in a month. Ahmad Bradshaw could also see work in the Giants' backfield if Jacobs and Ward are out. Minnesota's run defense ranks third in the NFL, so it isn't a favorable matchup for any Giants back.

Reuben Droughns rushed 11 times for 13 yards and caught three passes for 26 yards in Week 11.

Though he was shutdown on the ground against the Lions, Droughns will likely be the hot waiver wire pick this week with the injury to Brandon Jacobs. Droughns is already in on many short yardage situations and can also catch passes out of the backfield, making him a decent flex option if he starts.

Reuben Droughns rushed three times for eight yards and a touchdown in Week 10.

Droughns got a goal-line carry over Brandon Jacobs again, and was used occasionally on third downs. He's a questionable fantasy asset, although he has a bit of value in TD-only leagues.
