Broncos coach Vance Joseph will meet with DBs coach Joe Woods on Friday.
He's presumably interviewing for the team's vacancy at defensive coordinator. Woods has overseen Denver's secondary for the last two seasons and appears to be the favorite to replace Wade Phillips, who signed on to be the Rams' defensive coordinator on Thursday. Joseph is also interviewing Eric Studesville, who has spent the last seven years as Denver's RBs coach. Studesville interviewed for the Jets' opening at offensive coordinator earlier this week. Broncos coach Vance Joseph believes DBs coach Joe Woods is ready to be a defensive coordinator.

Woods has been a DBs coach since 2004, and with Denver since 2015. Joseph is still choosing his staff, but Woods appears to be the favorite to take over as his defensive coordinator. Joseph also said he's "considering" keeping Wade Phillips, though reports suggest Phillips could be tabbed as the Rams' new DC if Sean McVay gets the job. Whoever lands the DC job in Denver could end up the play-caller, as Joseph has said he'd like to focus on his overall duties.

Broncos hired Fred Pagac as OLBs coach.

Pagac was most recently with the Bills on DC Jim Schwartz's staff. Prior to that, he was the Vikings' defensive coordinator from 2011-2012 before being demoted to OLBs coach. Pagac has mostly spent his career in 4-3 defenses, but will help coach Von Miller on new Broncos DC Wade Phillips' 3-4 unit.

The Broncos will interview Bengals DBs coach Vance Joseph for their head-coaching vacancy.

Joseph is perhaps the first true wild card of coaching-carousel season. A reserve quarterback and cornerback for the University of Colorado in the '90s, Joseph has been an NFL defensive backs coach since 2005. He spent 2011-13 with the Texans before joining Marvin Lewis' staff last season. Joseph is a long-shot in Denver, but GM John Elway has hinted he's willing to think outside the box.

Broncos DC Jack Del Rio is denying rumors he was at USC on Sunday night.

Late Sunday, Twitter exploded with rumors Del Rio arrived at LAX in connection with USC's head coaching vacancy. (Del Rio played college ball at USC, and athletic director Pat Haden has fired Lane Kiffin.) Del Rio told reporters on Monday he spent the evening at coach John Fox's steakhouse in Denver. Del Rio may very well emerge as a serious candidate for USC after the season, but the Denver Post reported he won't leave the Broncos midyear.

The Denver Post expects Broncos coordinators Jack Del Rio and Mike McCoy to be "hot candidates" on the head-coaching circuit during the coming weeks.

Del Rio is in his first season as defensive coordinator in Denver after being the head coach in Jacksonville from 2003-11. McCoy has been coordinating the offense since 2009 and turned a Tim Tebow-run offense into the No. 1 rushing team in 2011. If the Broncos beat the Chiefs on Sunday, they will lock up a first-round bye for the playoffs. Both coordinators could then be summoned for head coaching interviews during that bye week. This is pure speculation by the Post, but, at the very least, McCoy is expected to be sought after on the coaching market for the second offseason in a row.

Broncos fired GM Brian Xanders.

He's lucky he lasted this long. Promoted to GM in a 2009 package deal that also made Josh McDaniels the Broncos' head coach, Xanders never had much power during the McDaniels regime and was all but zeroed out of the picture when John Elway took over football operations last offseason. Xanders spent 1994 through 2007 working with the Atlanta Falcons as a coach and player personnel evaluator. He has some background with new Bears GM Phil Emery, and could potentially resurface in Chicago in a lower-level capacity.

The Broncos have denied LBs coach Richard Smith permission to interview for the Raiders' defensive coordinator vacancy.

The Broncos won't be letting Dennis Allen pillage his former staff. Smith was a candidate to replace Allen as Broncos defensive coordinator before Jack Del Rio was hired. ESPN.com reports ex-Chargers DC Greg Manusky and 49ers DBs coach Ed Donatell are potential candidates to run Allen's defense in Oakland.

Broncos hired ex-Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio as defensive coordinator.

He's a nice replacement for Dennis Allen, who was considered a big loss when he left for the Raiders' head-coaching job. Unlike in Jacksonville, Del Rio will have pass rushers to work with in Denver in Von Miller, Elvis Dumervil, and Robert Ayers. Del Rio has overseen both 4-3 and 3-4 schemes and could run a hybrid defense with the Broncos. It's a natural fit, as 48-year-old Del Rio was John Fox's defensive coordinator with the Panthers in 2002.

In addition to Jack Del Rio, the Broncos are expected to consider LBs coach Richard Smith for their defensive coordinator opening.

Smith has coordinator experience, although it was forgettable with the Texans. Del Rio would seem to be a more desirable target to replace Dennis Allen.

Ex-Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio has reportedly emerged as a candidate to replace Dennis Allen as Broncos defensive coordinator.

Del Rio remains on good terms with coach John Fox, having led his defense back in 2002 for the Panthers. The two men were seen conversing at the Senior Bowl on Tuesday, and Del Rio is expected to receive "serious consideration" in Denver.

Broncos hired Saints secondary coach Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator.

News broke last week of the Eagles' interest in Allen, and the Broncos suddenly had interest and went out and signed him. It's an odd fit, since Allen has worked only with 4-3 defenses and the Broncos have had a 3-4 for the past two years. Their best defender -- Elvis Dumervil -- is best suited to play in a 3-4. Denver now appears likely to change back to a 4-3 system. While Allen may be a fine coach, it's hard to imagine a smooth transition.

Packers DL coach Mike Trgovac is considered the favorite for the defensive coordinator vacancy in Denver.

It's expected to be Trgovac's job if he wants it, although the Broncos must wait for the Packers' season to end to interview him. Trgovac was new Denver coach John Fox's defensive coordinator in Carolina from 2003 until 2008, before being replaced by Ron Meeks. "I was not fired," Trgovac insisted when explaining his departure. "I left (the Panthers) on a great note."

Saints DBs coach Dennis Allen will reportedly interview for the Broncos' defensive coordinator vacancy before he meets with the Eagles.

Both interviews are scheduled for the weekend. Allen is suddenly a hot coordinator candidate after receiving little publicity under Gregg Williams in New Orleans. He does have a history of coaching both defensive linemen and defensive backs, and has been an assistant in the NFL for nine years.

Former Falcons coach Jim Mora left Denver without an agreement to become the Broncos defensive coordinator.

He's still the clear favorite for the job, but the Denver Post's Lindsay H. Jones notes that Mora's contract "might be more difficult to negotiate" because he's a former head coach. Mora has narrowed his choices to Denver and Philadelphia. If the Broncos and Mora are unable to work out a deal, Jones anticipates them going after Packers defensive line coach Mike Trgovac, who was Fox's defensive coordinator in Carolina from 2003-08.
