Date:

Jason Witten caught one pass for five yards in the Cowboys' Week 9 win over the Chiefs.

Witten's second quarter grab was his only target. The one-catch day was Witten's third of 2017. With half the year in the books, 35-year-old Witten is on pace for 70/638/4.
Nov 5 - 8:05 PM

Jason Witten caught 3-of-5 targets for 31 yards in the Cowboys' Week 8 win over the Redskins.

It was a golden matchup turned poor by rainy conditions. Witten will find himself on the TE1/2 borderline for Week 9 against the Chiefs. His outlook will be enhanced if Ezekiel Elliott's suspension kicks in, forcing the Cowboys to lean more heavily on the passing game.
Oct 29 - 7:49 PM

Jason Witten caught 4-of-4 targets for 54 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' Week 7 win over the 49ers.

The touchdown was Witten's first since Week 2. It was a ridiculous grab, a one-hander against tight coverage in the end zone. Witten simply refuses to die in fantasy, and will remain affixed to the TE1/2 borderline for Week 8 against the Redskins.
Oct 22 - 7:34 PM

Jason Witten hauled in 8-of-10 targets for 61 yards in the Cowboys' Week 5 loss to the Packers.

After two dreadful games, Witten returned to his security blanket role against the Packers, consistently operating as the check-down option all game. It did not result in many fantasy points in standard formats, but PPR owners will take the catches. Witten will be a low-end TE1 against the 49ers when the Cowboys return from their bye.
Oct 8 - 9:00 PM

Jason Witten caught 1-of-2 targets for nine yards in the Cowboys' Week 4 loss to the Rams.

The Cowboys missed a scoring opportunity when Dak Prescott narrowly overthrew Witten on an end-zone pass. Witten was terrific in the Cowboys' first two games, but he hasn't done much in two straight since. He will remain a low-end TE1 in Week 5 against the Packers, albeit with an elevated outlook because that game projects as a shootout.
Oct 1 - 5:28 PM

Jason Witten caught just 1-of-4 targets for three yards in the Cowboys' Week 3 win over the Cardinals.

The one-catch night is really disappointing after Witten managed a combined 17-156-2 line through the first two games. A cool-down was obviously coming soon, and the Cardinals are one of the best teams at defending tight ends. Witten will be a borderline TE1/2 next week against the Rams at home.
Sep 26 - 12:31 AM

Jason Witten caught 10-of-13 targets for 97 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' Week 2 loss against the Broncos.

Witten vacuumed up checkdowns for the Cowboys' ineffective offense. His touchdown came on a beautiful route, head-faking the corner to get wide open. Everybody's favorite dad runner is once again settling in as one of fantasy's more streamable TE2s.
Sep 17 - 10:54 PM

Jason Witten caught 7-of-9 targets for 59 yards and a touchdown in Dallas' Week 1 win over the Giants.

Witten became Cowboys’ all-time leading receiver on the night. He scored the only TD of the game, beating Eli Apple in the red-zone. Witten is a major part of Dallas' short passing game, but is touchdown dependent at this stage of his career.
Sep 11 - 12:40 AM

When asked about retirement, Jason Witten said, "I haven't thought about it at all."

"It really hasn't even entered my mind," he said. Witten somewhat contradicted himself by saying he's taking it "one year at a time," though he did sign a five-year extension this offseason, which will keep him in Dallas through his age-39 season. The Cowboys seem to be grooming Witten's replacement in former Baylor basketball player Rico Gathers, though he'll start the year on injured reserve with a concussion.
Sep 7 - 3:55 PM

Jason Witten caught 6-of-6 targets for 74 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' third preseason game.

The Raiders' safety and inside linebacker play was brutal on Saturday night, but that's become the norm. (It's also something to file away for in-season matchup purposes.) On an apparent miscommunication between FS Reggie Nelson and SS Karl Joseph, Witten capitalized for a wide-open ten-yard touchdown catch off play action early in the second quarter. Witten went to work late in the first half with three consecutive catches to gain a combined 41 yards. Witten is never an upside fantasy pick, but he finishes as a low-end TE1 every season and will maintain a prominent role in a Cowboys passing game that will be leaned on more heavily this year than last.
Aug 26 - 10:42 PM

Jason Witten's new five-year deal is worth $29.6 million, but includes no new guaranteed money.

In other words, it's mostly a salary cap contortion that lowers Witten's 2017 cap number and takes care of his 2018 "will he or won't he return to the Cowboys?" status ahead of time. Going on 35, Witten's career is on a year-by-year basis at this point.
Mar 28 - 1:46 PM

Cowboys signed Jason Witten to a four-year extension through 2021.

It is a shock both because EVP Stephen Jones said there were no plans to extend Witten exactly a month ago and the extension keeps him under contract through his age-39 season. The deal likely will lower his $12.262 million cap hit this year, however, and the length of the contract should keep his cap number down for the next several seasons. Witten should become the franchise leader in receiving yards this year.

Mar 28 - 11:20 AM

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said there are no current plans to give Jason Witten a contract extension.

Headed into the final season of a five-year, $37 million extension he signed in 2011, Witten turns 35 in May. He's already said he's not expecting a new deal. Witten is slated to make $7.4 million in 2017.
Feb 28 - 6:49 PM

Jason Witten doesn't expect to sign a contract extension this offseason.

Witten is entering a contract year. Asked if he planned to continue his career beyond 2017, Witten was noncommittal. "I think at this point you just go into it and look at it one year at a time," he said. "It sounds like you may know in April, but you don't know what it's going to feel like at this point in early February coming off the season." The 10-time Pro Bowler turns 35 in May.
