He was targeted a team-high nine times, with five of his catches going for first downs. Witten's seven receptions were the most he's had this season. He continues to see a bigger role in the offense in favor of Terrance Williams. Witten will be a mid-range TE1 in Week 16 against a Colts defense that struggles to cover tight ends. Dec 15 - 1:02 AM

Date:

Jason Witten caught 2-of-3 targets for 26 yards in the Cowboys' Week 14 win over the Bears.

Witten had a dream matchup in a Bears defense allowing the most fantasy points to tight ends, but couldn't take advantage. After a four-week (relative) hot streak, Witten has now been bottled up for 3/34 across his past two games. He'll be a fringe TE1 for next week's rematch with the Eagles.
Dec 5 - 12:12 AM

Jason Witten was held to one catch for eight yards in Thursday's Week 13 loss to the Eagles.

He finished with just two targets. Witten was a non-factor after finding the end-zone the last two games. He'll have a chance to get back on track in Week 14 against a Bears defense that allows the most fantasy points to tight ends.
Nov 27 - 9:12 PM

The Philadelphia Inquirer suggests the Eagles will have trouble covering Jason Witten in Thursday's game against the Cowboys.

Witten does not typically create mismatches at this point in his career. But the Eagles, already without DeMeco Ryans (Achilles), lost Emmanuel Acho (groin) Sunday. Now they'll have to ride with incompetent Casey Matthews as a primary inside linebacker, with rookie Marcus Smith mixing in. Smith is a pass-rusher that was drafted as an outside linebacker. Witten's upside is capped by his limited athletic ability, but he has TE1 appeal Thursday.
Nov 24 - 9:37 AM

Jason Witten caught 4-of-6 targets for 30 yards and a touchdown in Sunday night's Week 12 win over the Giants.

Witten scored on a shovel pass in second quarter. He's had a bigger role in the offense in favor of Terrance Williams, with two touchdowns over his last three games. Witten will be a mid-range TE1 in Week 13 against the Eagles.
Nov 24 - 1:37 AM

Jason Witten caught 5-of-7 targets for 33 yards and a touchdown Week 10 against the Jaguars.

Witten could have had a much bigger day. Tony Romo just missed a wide-open Witten for a walk-in touchdown in the first quarter, and Witten dropped what would have been a huge catch-and-run in the third. Witten now has 22 targets through the last three games, and is becoming a bigger part of the Cowboys' offense. He is back on the low-end TE1 map.
Nov 9 - 5:22 PM

Jason Witten caught 6-of-7 targets for 62 yards in Dallas' Week 9 loss to the Cardinals.

Witten was the Cowboys' leading receiver on a day where backup QB Brandon Weeden couldn't challenge downfield. The six-catch effort was Witten's first of the season, while the yards were his second most. That should tell you all you need to know about his fantasy value. He's a low-end TE1.
Nov 2 - 5:07 PM

Jason Witten caught five passes for 70 yards and one touchdown in the Cowboys' Week 8 overtime loss to the Redskins.

Witten drew a team-high eight targets and scored from 25 yards out in the fourth quarter. Brandon Weeden, in relief of an injured Tony Romo (back), hit wide-open Witten for the score after two defenders followed Dwyane Harris downfield. At the midway point of the season, Witten is on pace for a 56-672-4 line. The catches and yards would be Witten's fewest since his 2003 rookie season.
Oct 28 - 12:46 AM

Jason Witten caught two passes for 27 yards in Sunday's Week 7 win over the Giants.

Witten's two catches were simple crossing patterns. The 32-year-old is now averaging just 3.2 catches for 38.0 yards with one touchdown in seven games. He'll be a weak TE1 in Week 8, even in a nice matchup against the Redskins.
Oct 19 - 8:33 PM

Jason Witten caught two passes for 24 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's Week 6 win at Seattle.

Witten was blanketed by Seahawks LB Marcus Smith, failing to gain much separation at all. Luckily for owners, Tony Romo found his old pal for a 3-yard score in the second quarter. It's Witten's first touchdown of the year as he's become more of a blocker in Dallas' run-based attack. He's just a low-end TE1 heading to a Week 7 game against the Giants.
Oct 12 - 8:29 PM

Jason Witten caught 4-of-5 targets for 59 yards in Dallas' Week 5 win over the Texans.

Witten has now cleared 4-49 in three-straight games, but has yet to find the end zone. He's caught more than four passes only once all season, and has yet to post more than 61 yards. Doing a ton of blocking in the Cowboys' newly run-heavy offense, Witten is shaping up as a bottom-barrel TE1, albeit one who's always a threat to explode as Tony Romo's security blanket.
Oct 5 - 6:03 PM

Jason Witten caught five passes for 61 yards in Week 4 against the Saints.

Both were season-highs for Witten, who is on pace for just 60 catches and 624 yards. Witten has still yet to score a touchdown through four weeks. He'll be a low-end TE 1 against the Texans.
Sep 29 - 1:17 AM

Jason Witten had four catches for 49 yards in Week 3 against the Rams.

It was Witten's best game to date, but he's still yet to score a touchdown this season. Witten finished behind only Dez Bryant with five targets. He'll be a low-end TE1 in Week 4.
Sep 21 - 6:19 PM

Jason Witten caught 4-of-7 targets for 32 yards in Dallas' Week 2 win over the Titans.

It was another quiet day for Witten, who was limited to checkdowns as the Cowboys went run- and Dez Bryant-heavy. Witten now has only six grabs for 46 yards through two games. Witten doesn't look physically diminished, so he remains squarely in the TE1 ranks.
Sep 14 - 5:30 PM

Jason Witten secured only 2-of-6 targets for 14 yards in Dallas' Week 1 loss.

Tony Romo targeted a blanketed Witten in the end zone on a second quarter first-and-goal, resulting in his second of three picks. It was an inauspicious start to Witten's 2014, but not an altogether worrisome one. He remains locked in as a TE1 as Romo's security blanket.
