Jason Witten caught 4-of-7 targets for 32 yards in Dallas' Week 2 win over the Titans.
It was another quiet day for Witten, who was limited to checkdowns as the Cowboys went run- and Dez Bryant-heavy. Witten now has only six grabs for 46 yards through two games. Witten doesn't look physically diminished, so he remains squarely in the TE1 ranks. Sep 14 - 5:30 PM

Jason Witten secured only 2-of-6 targets for 14 yards in Dallas' Week 1 loss.

Tony Romo targeted a blanketed Witten in the end zone on a second quarter first-and-goal, resulting in his second of three picks. It was an inauspicious start to Witten's 2014, but not an altogether worrisome one. He remains locked in as a TE1 as Romo's security blanket.

Jason Witten caught one pass for 11 yards against the Dolphins Saturday.

It was Witten's first catch of the preseason. At 32, Witten is entering the decline phase of his career, but should still be a large cog in the Cowboys' offense. He is a solid, mid-range TE1.

Tony Romo believes the Cowboys' strong offensive line could allow Jason Witten to play in space more this season.

The idea is to cut down on Witten's pass protection snaps in an effort to utilize him more as a short and intermediate receiver. It's something the Cowboys will probably have to do because their pathetic defense is going to put them in frequent hurry-up and comeback situations. There's a strong case to be made that Witten should be the No. 5 fantasy tight end drafted this year, behind Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, and Jordan Cameron.

New playcaller Scott Linehan called Jason Witten an every-down player.

It doesn't sound like Linehan plans to reduce Witten's role at all. So even if the 32-year-old is losing a step, he's still a mid-range TE1 as the Cowboys project to really air the ball out this season. Witten has been a top-6 fantasy tight end in each of the last four years.

Jason Witten caught 12 passes for 135 yards in Sunday night's Week 17 loss to the Eagles.

Witten benefitted from Kyle Orton constantly checking down, finishing with a team-high 16 targets. He was able to exploit a matchup with against the Eagles' secondary, though he also dropped a pass that led to an interception in the first half. Witten's biggest play was a 34-yard seam route that set up a Dez Bryant touchdown late in the fourth quarter. His 2013 season ends with 73 catches for 851 yards and eight touchdowns.

Jason Witten caught just two passes for 13 yards in Sunday's Week 16 win at Washington.

Witten was oddly targeted just twice even though Dez Bryant saw consistent double teams. Perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised. Witten has seen three targets or less in three of the last four games and is averaging just 4.0 catches on the season. The Cowboys would be wise to get Witten more involved when they face the Eagles with a playoff spot on the line in Week 17.

Jason Witten caught four passes for 71 yards and a touchdown in Dallas' Week 15 loss to the Packers.

Witten took advantage of some abysmal tackling on his 25-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Witten is well off his 2012 pace in catches and yards, but now has four touchdowns over his past four games. He'll remain a mid-range TE1 for the final week of the fantasy playoffs.

Jason Witten caught a ten-yard touchdown in Week 14 against the Bears.

Witten was targeted three times on the night. It was an extremely disappointing effort against a defense that struggles mightily versus opposing tight ends. Witten may have been hurt, but the team didn't report anything. James Hanna and Gavin Escobar saw more work than usual it seemed. Witten will be back on the TE1 map next week in a tasty home date with the Packers.

Jason Witten caught three balls for 53 yards in the Cowboys' Week 13 win over the Raiders.

It was a surprisingly quiet night for the entire Dallas pass game, which has now scuffled two weeks in a row following its Week 11 bye. For its part, the Raiders' defense has been fairly stingy in tight end coverage this season. Look for Witten to bounce back in a cake Week 14 matchup with Chicago.

Five of Jason Witten's six touchdowns this season have come in the red zone.

Witten had a total of eight touchdowns across 2011 and 2012. He's going to shatter that mark in this year alone because of all the attention Dez Bryant is drawing and because the Cowboys are using their tight end around the goal-line more. Witten will be a strong TE1 against the Raiders on Thanksgiving.

Jason Witten caught four balls for 37 yards and two touchdowns in the Cowboys' Week 12 win over the Giants.

Both of Tony Romo's TD passes were good to Witten in the red zone. Witten has now scored four times across two 2013 meetings with the G-Men. Keep leaning on Witten as a mid-range TE1 when the Cowboys play Oakland in Week 13.

Jason Witten caught two passes for 27 yards in Sunday night's Week 10 loss to the Saints.

Witten was targeted a team-high six times, but wasn't able to get anything going with Tony Romo. He's now been held under 50 yards six times this season and continues to struggles with his consistency. Witten is averaging 4.7 catches for 53.2 yards over his first 10 games and will be just a low-end TE1 when the Cowboys come out of their bye in Week 12.
Mon, Nov 11, 2013 01:52:00 AM

Jason Witten caught eight passes for 102 yards and one touchdown in Week 9 against the Vikings.

Witten led the Cowboys in receiving on ten targets. The Vikings have had trouble covering the middle of the field this season, and Witten and Tony Romo took advantage of them. In the third quarter, Witten caught back-to-back 26-yard passes with the second one coming on an easy play-action score right down the seam. There was nobody around Witten. The Saints are up next for the TE1.

Jason Witten caught two passes for 15 yards in Dallas' Week 8 loss to the Lions.

Bizarrely, Witten's two grabs were his only targets. Both the catches and looks were new season lows. Averaging just 4.6 catches for 50.4 yards, Witten is shaping up as a low-end TE1. That being said, he has an appetizing Week 9 matchup in the Vikings.
