Saints LB Scott Shanle was limited by a shoulder injury in the team's Week 14 win at Tennessee.
Shanle didn't start and only played sparingly as his lingering shoulder issue nagged. He didn't record any tackles after racking up six and a sack in Week 13. Mon, Dec 12, 2011 08:36:00 AM

Saints re-signed WLB Scott Shanle.

The Saints believe Jonathan Casillas is their weak-side linebacker of the future, but the 31-year-old Shanle will return as insurance. Casillas is coming off a Lisfranc fracture. Shanle is in decline, but he's worth retaining as a backup. Previously, the Rams were known to have shown some interest in him.

Free agent WLB Scott Shanle has spoken to the Rams about lining up a visit.

Shanle was ineffective as an outside linebacker last season and the Saints are likely ready to move in a new direction. In St. Louis, he'd be able to battle the likes of David Vobora and Na'il Diggs for snaps. Note that Shanle was originally drafted by the Rams back in 2003. Shanle spoke with the Saints Tuesday, and the Bengals are also interested.

Free agent WLB Scott Shanle isn't expected back in New Orleans unless he agrees to a "team friendly" deal.

Shanle has been talking contract with the Saints for over a year now, but the labor uncertainty has precluded a deal. Shanle was Pro Football Focus' lowest-rated 4-3 outside linebacker last year, and the Saints have more depth with Jonathan Casillas coming back from injury and third-rounder Martez Wilson on board.

The Saints had contract talks with free agent WLB Scott Shanle before the lockout began in mid-March.

The seriousness of discussions is unclear, as Shanle came away from them not knowing whether the Saints want to re-sign him. Shanle was New Orleans' third leading tackler last season, behind only Roman Harper and Jonathan Vilma.

Saints WLB Scott Shanle's (hamstring) status for Week 8 is up in the air.

Coach Sean Payton noted that Shanle is probably closer to playing in Week 8 than CB Jabari Greer, for what it's worth. We'll get a better idea as to what his status is on Wednesday.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune confirms that Scott Shanle is expected to move back to weak-side linebacker following Jonathan Casillas' season-ending Lisfranc fracture.

Jo-Lonn Dunbar will start on the strong side. We've seen what Shanle can do at the position (68 tackles last year), and the fantasy upside isn't high as he enters his age-31 season. Consider Shanle a low-end LB3 option at best.

Saints linebacker Scott Shanle is expected to move to the strong-side.

His IDP value takes a hit as Jonathan Casillas will take his place on the weak-side. Shanle will now play Scott Fujita's old role, with Clint Ingram (microfracture surgery) clearly not being counted on to be a contributor.

Following Dan Morgan's retirement, Scott Shanle is expected to be the Saints' starting weak-side linebacker this season.

Shanle had nearly 100 tackles and four sacks in 2006, but his play dipped dramatically after signing an extension. He had only 68 stops last season.

Saints WLB Scott Shanle (hamstring) is not expected to play in Week 10.

Brian Simmons started in Shanle's place last week and registered five stops (two solo). With DE Charles Grant (ankle) likely to only see part time action against the Rams, Steven Jackson's matchup looks a bit stronger.

Saints WLB Scott Shanle (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Week 9.

Shanle has only 28 total tackles (18 solo) in seven games this season. His replacement on the weak side will be Brian Simmons against the Jags.

Scott Shanle left Sunday's game with a hamstring injury.

Coach Sean Payton said afterward that he wasn't sure how long the linebacker would be sidelined.
Mon, Oct 29, 2007 10:04:00 AM

Saints signed WLB Scott Shanle to a four-year contract extension.

The 27-year-old recorded 98 tackles and four sacks in 2006 as part of an overachieving linebacker unit coached by Joe Vitt. This should give New Orleans more freedom to upgrade its secondary in free agency. Financial terms weren't disclosed, but Shanle is now under control through 2010.

The Saints may explore replacing WLB Scott Shanle this offseason.

The Biloxi Sun Herald suggests drafting Patrick Willis, who played inside at Ole Miss, and using him in Shanle's spot, though it seems a stretch Willis would fall to No. 27. Shanle will be a free agent in March.
Sun, Jan 28, 2007 12:03:00 PM

Saints WLB Scott Shanle leads the team with 81 tackles.

Shanle has also notched three sacks and forced a fumble. Among New Orleans' starting linebackers, Mark Simoneau is the least productive. Strong-sider Scott Fujita has 77 stops, two INTs, and 2.5 sacks.
