Ex-NFL WR Keenan McCardell has been hired as the University of Maryland's receivers coach.
McCardell, 44, spent 17 seasons in the NFL as a receiver and made two Pro Bowls and won two Super Bowl rings. He had his best seasons with the Jaguars from 1996-2001, putting up four 1,000-yard receiving seasons. He retired following the 2007 season with the Redskins. McCardell later returned to Washington to coach the Redskins receivers from 2010-2011 but was later fired. Thu, Jan 16, 2014 01:10:00 PM

Former Jaguars wide receiver Keenan McCardell is working with the Giants' coaching staff as part of the Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship.

McCardell played under coach Tom Coughlin from 1996-2001 in Jacksonville. "I enjoy the game," said McCardell. "(Coughlin) always said if you love the game you'll still be around it, and he loves the game just like I love the game."

Former Redskins, Bucs, and Jaguars wide receiver Keenan McCardell revealed that he is considering taking up coaching.

McCardell hasn't formally retired, but the 39-year-old was out of football in '08. His 16-year career ends with two Pro Bowls and five 84+ catch seasons. McCardell was a top-25 fantasy wideout seven times. He was the WR10 in 2003 with Tampa, amassing 1,174 yards and eight TDs on 84 grabs.

Free agent Keenan McCardell still hopes to latch on with a team in training camp.

McCardell, 38, caught 22 passes last year. "I want to play," he said. "I know I can help a team." Like last season, McCardell might catch on with someone after injuries strike. But he won't be high on many free agent lists.

The Redskins are not expected to attempt to re-sign free agent Keenan McCardell.

Can't you feel the Redskins getting younger? McCardell, 38, caught 22 balls in 2007, averaging 11.6 YPC. He might have one year of fourth receiver duty left in the tank, but the odds probably favor McCardell hanging 'em up.

Keenan McCardell (calf) participated in a Redskins walkthrough Wednesday and is expected to play Saturday against the Seahawks.

Right tackle Stephon Heyer (ankle) also took part. McCardell may have to step into the fourth receiver role at Seattle if James Thrash (ankle) can't go.

Redskins declared WR Keenan McCardell, QB Jason Campbell, DE Alex Buzbee, QB Sam Hollenbach, TE Todd Yoder, S Pierson Prioleau, OL Mike Pucillo, and DT Ryan Boschetti inactive against the Vikings in Week 16.

Washington's roster is pretty healthy right now. Brian Kozlowski will back up Chris Cooley with Yoder out. Todd Collins starts at quarterback.

Keenan McCardell (probable, calf) returned to a full practice Friday.

Despite the probable tag, McCardell may still be inactive in Week 16.

Keenan McCardell (calf) was limited in Redskins practice Thursday.

McCardell was active in Week 15, but did not see the field and has fallen to fifth on the Redskins' depth chart. He's uncertain to play on Sunday.

Keenan McCardell caught two passes for 14 yards in Week 13.

The Redskins started in a three receiver set and McCardell was out wide opposite Santana Moss with Reche Caldwell in the slot. McCardell and Caldwell ended up splitting time when the 'Skins went to two wideout looks.

Keenan McCardell caught six passes for 60 yards in Week 12.

As the Redskins continue to lose receivers, McCardell continues to step up and has 11 receptions the last two weeks. The wily veteran is not a great fantasy option, but if an Antwaan Randle El injury moves him into the starting lineup, he could be worth a look in PPR leagues.

Keenan McCardell had 76 yards on five receptions in Week 11.

The Redskins threw the ball 55 times the surprisingly spry McCardell, who had a 32-yard catch, was one of the beneficiaries. McCardell was working as the third receiver with James Thrash out with an injury and despite the solid numbers, he warrants no fantasy consideration unless the Redskins sustain additional injuries.
Sun, Nov 18, 2007 09:03:00 PM

Keenan McCardell caught two passes for 30 yards in Week 6.

He may have to play more next week if Santana Moss can't get healthy. That's not good for the Redskins offense or Jason Campbell.
Sun, Oct 14, 2007 05:38:00 PM

Keenan McCardell caught two passes for 39 yards in Week 5.

Despite being with the Redskins for only one week, McCardell was second in receiving yards. He looked to be up to speed with the playbook and he showed no rust with receptions of 19 and 20 yards. Do not rush to sign him yet, but if Moss and Randle El miss time, McCardell might go from the street to starter by next week.
Sun, Oct 7, 2007 04:37:00 PM

Redskins signed WR Keenan McCardell and released S Omar Stoutmire.

McCardell is on his last legs, but has a chance to make an impact if he picks up Al Saunders' offense quickly. Santana Moss (groin) appears likely to miss at least Week 5, and Washington is unwilling to rely on Brandon Lloyd. James Thrash, McCardell, and Reche Caldwell will presumably compete in practice this week to start opposite Antwaan Randle El vs. Detroit.
