49ers signed OG Leonard Davis to a one-year contract.
Davis was expected to be 100 percent this summer after undergoing foot surgery early in the offseason. Failing to land a job before November, Davis didn't play a single snap for the Lions in 2011. No lock to make the roster, Davis is merely a veteran fallback in case Alex Boone and Daniel Kilgore struggle while battling for the right guard job. Thu, Jul 26, 2012 02:48:00 PM

Free agent G Leonard Davis recently underwent foot surgery, but is expected to be 100 percent within the next two months.

Davis wasn't known to be hurt as he struggled to find a job last season, and was reportedly in "decent shape" when he signed with the Lions in November. He'll need to be 100 percent healthy by the start of training camp to have a realistic chance of landing a roster spot during his age-34 season. He visited the 49ers last week.

Free agent OG Leonard Davis will reportedly visit the 49ers on Wednesday.

Davis drew little free agent interest last summer and didn't sign with the Lions until November. He didn't play a single down in 2011. Turning 34 in September, Davis may be viewed as insurance in case the Niners lose free agent RG Adam Snyder.

Lions signed OG Leonard Davis, formerly of the Cowboys.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Davis is in "decent shape." Now 33, the powerful run blocker started all 64 games for the Cowboys between 2007-10. He won't be a starter for the Lions, but should see plenty of snaps on running downs, providing a boost to a rushing offense ranked just 27th in the league.

Scout.com's Aaron Wilson reports that the Lions will sign free agent OL Leonard Davis this week.

The 33-year-old Davis has starting experience at both tackle positions and guard, although his best position is the latter at this stage of his career. Davis has not played in the NFL this season after Dallas cut him on July 26.

Free agent OG Leonard Davis is reportedly visiting the Lions Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The 32-year-old started every game for the past four years in Dallas, so he's one of the few quality free agents remaining. The Lions can certainly use experienced depth behind Jeff Backus (pectoral) and Gosder Cherilus (knee), but it's been five years since Davis played tackle.

The Dolphins are reportedly one of several teams to have contacted free agent OG Leonard Davis.

As expected. Davis went to the Pro Bowl under then offensive line coach Tony Sparano in 2007. Reports out of Miami have suggested the Dolphins are looking for veteran insurance at guard with John Jerry not meeting expectations.

Free agent OG Leonard Davis is reportedly down to under 350 pounds and "said to be primed to go," for any interested teams.

The 33-year-old Davis should be willing to settle for a veteran's minimum kind of deal after being benched for Montrae Holland in Dallas last year. Still a powerful run blocker, Davis could at least be a versatile backup for a power-running team. He's made starts at right guard and both tackle spots in his career.

Cowboys informed RG Leonard Davis of his release.

Dallas is freeing up cap space, here getting itself off the hook for $6 million worth of salary. Davis can still play in a power-blocking scheme, ranking in the top half of NFL guards in Pro Football Focus' ratings the past two years. The Dolphins could be a team to watch, as Davis went to the Pro Bowl in 2007 under coach Tony Sparano. Contrary to a previous report, ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins now expects the Cowboys to hold onto RT Marc Colombo.

The Cowboys are expected to keep Leonard Davis as their starting right guard in 2011.

Davis was briefly benched last season, is due a $6 million salary, and turns 33 before Opening Day, leading to speculation he might be released. Realistically, though, Davis only had a few bad games (vs. Titans in Week 5 and Detroit in Week 11), and Dallas is already looking to replace right tackle Marc Colombo. Davis likely has a year or two left of above-average play.

ESPN Dallas suggests that RG Leonard Davis could be cut this offseason.

Davis had a brutal season, getting benched in Week 5 despite being a three-time Pro Bowler. The Cowboys ended up averaging just 2.0 yards per carry while running behind right guard. Due to make $6 million in each of the next three seasons, Davis is an extremely poor bet to finish out that contract.

Despite his Week 5 benching, coach Wade Phillips says he's committed to Leonard Davis as the Cowboys' starting right guard.

"The guy is a Pro Bowl player," Phillips said. It doesn't hurt Davis' case that backup Montrae Holland is banged up. Davis has made three straight Pro Bowls, but his pass blocking fell apart against freakishly quick Titans DT Jason Jones on Sunday. Davis also has a history of struggling in the heat.

Cowboys RG Leonard Davis is in danger of losing his starting job after being benched during Sunday's loss to the Titans.

Montrae Holland replaced Davis late in the first half after the Cowboys gave up five sacks in their first four possessions. Davis then came back in the game for the fourth quarter after Holland took a shot to the face. Davis has made the past three Pro Bowls and will make over $6 million in each of the next three seasons, but offensive coordinator Jason Garrett admitted he doesn't know who will start next week.

Cowboys starting RG Leonard Davis was benched in favor of Montrae Holland in the first half of Sunday's Week 5 game against the Titans.

Davis is riding the pine not because of an injury but because of his play. Davis was a large reason the team gave up five first quarter sacks.

Cowboys RG Leonard Davis has backed out of the Pro Bowl due to a foot injury.

Davin Joseph will fill in. Davis' injury will not require surgery and isn't serious. He was arguably the most dominant right guard in the NFL last season.
