49ers WR Bryan Gilmore caught a 42-yard pass in Week 5.

In one play, Gilmore accounted for one fourth of the 49ers' total offense. The catch was spectacular, though, as Gilmore caught the ball while falling after being interfered with. He isn't a fantasy option, though.

Signed earlier this week, Bryan Gilmore said Wednesday that he's been told he'll serve as the 49ers' No. 3 wide receiver behind Darrell Jackson and Arnaz Battle.

"That's what I'm preparing for," Gilmore said. "We've got some great wide receivers. Darrell Jackson and Arnaz Battle, give them chances, they'll make plays. This is the place I want to be."

Niners re-signed WR Bryan Gilmore.

Gilmore was the Niners third receiver last season, but was waived during training camp. He will likely play behind Ashley Lelie and Jason Hill, both of whom could see additional playing time with the release of Taylor Jacobs.

He was their third receiver last year, and they wasted a $210,000 signing bonus on him in the offseason. Well, it's not like there was a single fantasy team out there dumb enough to take him. Ashley Lelie and Taylor Jacobs, Jason Hill, and Brandon Williams made the team as expected.

Gilmore is not an impact receiver but the Niners value his toughness on special teams. He shouldn't be used as any more than a fourth wideout.

Bryan Gilmore didn't record a catch in Week 16.

He did drop a sure touchdown. The Niners could give third-round rookie Brandon Williams out of Wisconsin a look in Week 17, but don't have any other decent options to start opposite Arnaz Battle with Antonio Bryant on suspension. Taylor Jacobs caught one pass against Arizona Sunday.

Gilmore, who has just seven catches all year, is quite possibly the NFL's worst third receiver. Taylor Jacobs may also see more action on offense.

Gilmore, billed as a deep threat, took the pass all the way down to the one. Michael Robinson cleaned up with a goal-line touchdown.

The San Jose Mercury News reports Bryan Gilmore is the favorite to be San Francisco's third receiver this season.

Gilmore was mainly a special teamer in Miami but has a good chance to make an impact especially with Arnaz Battle nursing his knee. He's not expected to have any fantasy value.
