Seahawks released RB T.J. Duckett.

The club wouldn't confirm the move after Profootballtalk reported it Monday, but it's official now. Duckett, 28, was one of the league's top short-yardage backs last year, generating eight TDs and 11 first downs. Problem is, that's all he does well. As an eight-year vet whose salary will be guaranteed if he's on a Week 1 roster, Duckett probably won't resurface before the season.

Profootballtalk.com reports that the Seahawks have informed T.J. Duckett of his release.

Duckett wasn't worth his $2M salary, but the move is surprising after Seattle paid him a $2.5M bonus this offseason. Paying Duckett, then cutting him for 31-year-old Edgerrin James is another in a long line of GM Tim Ruskell's forgettable moves. Duckett was also easily the club's best short-yardage option. James, Julius Jones, and camp star Justin Forsett are left to battle for touches. It remains to be seen which back will get goal-line carries.

Teammates have begun to call T.J. Duckett "Kimbo Slice" because of his gnarly beard.

He notes that it cushions the area around his chin strap. Duckett confirmed that he has a bigger role in old buddy Greg Knapp's new zone blocking scheme. With only Julius Jones as competition, it's easy to imagine Duckett carving out 125 carries and plenty of touchdowns, making him an odd fantasy sleeper in standard leagues.

New Seahawks OC Greg Knapp anticipates using T.J. Duckett in a role similar to the one he played for Knapp in Atlanta.

Whoever Seattle brings in to compete at tailback will lose goal-line carries to Duckett. Duckett scored 31 times in his four seasons as a Falcon, including 27 between 2003 and 2005. He'll be worth targeting in TD-only leagues.

T.J. Duckett ran three times for four yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks' Week 15 win over St. Louis.

Duckett remains a goal-line back and little more. His main impact in fantasy football is severely limiting the upside of Seattle's other runners by vulturing their TDs. Duckett has reached pay dirt seven times this season.

Mike Holmgren had suggested Duckett might see more action, but it never really materialized. He's not worth a roster spot.

Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren suggested Monday that he might begin using T.J. Duckett more going forward.

Maybe like upping T.J.'s carry-per-game average from four to eight. Duckett is the Seahawks' goal-line back, but third string until proven otherwise. All he's proven this season is that he doesn't catch passes or run fast.

T.J. Duckett rushed five times for five yards and two touchdowns against the Cardinals in Week 11.

The fourth quarter provided a dream scenario for the vulture when Duckett converted both a Karlos Dansby fumble and a Kurt Warner fumble into goal-line touchdowns. Keep him chained to the bench if you feel you must have him on your roster.

Coach Mike Holmgren said Monday that T.J. Duckett could be used as Seattle's "late in the game" back when the team comes off its bye.

"There is probably a place for Duckett," Holmgren said. "He earned that (in Week 3). How many snaps and percentages, I don't know. Sometimes, it will just have to be a gut feeling." Duckett may still be used on the goal line, but will likely be third on the depth chart with Maurice Morris returning.

T.J. Duckett ran for two touchdowns and 79 yards on 19 carries in Seattle's Week 3 drubbing of the Rams.

Duckett got the rock on six straight plays on a fourth quarter TD drive, which he capped with a one-yard score. The burly back made a case for carries going forward, but seems likely to resume his normal role as the No. 3 back behind Julius Jones and Mo Morris after the club's Week 4 bye.

T.J. Duckett amassed just three yards on two carries against the 49ers in Week 2, but did score a touchdown.

The Seahawks seemed to prefer fullback Leonard Weaver in short-yardage situations for the most part, but Duckett got the ball on the goal line. It doesn't look like he's going to play a very big role in this offense, especially if the team starts going to Weaver near the end zone.

T.J. Duckett rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries and caught two passes for five yards in Seattle's fourth exhibition game.

This probably sealed Duckett's roster spot. Justin Forsett lost a fumble for the second straight game and is now in danger of missing the cut.
