49ers released QB Damon Huard.
Rookie Nate Davis has won the third quarterback job. The Niners tried shopping the 36-year-old Huard in recent weeks, but every team in the league knew he'd eventually be released. The Patriots are on the lookout for a new backup, and he has an idea of their offense. Green Bay is another possibility. Tue, Sep 1, 2009 08:24:00 PM

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Damon Huard is likely the "odd man out" among 49ers quarterbacks.

Rookie Nate Davis has played too well to risk waiving. The 49ers may try to shop Huard, but he'll likely be cut and land elsewhere as a free agent.

Damon Huard is locked in as the 49ers third quarterback, according to coach Mike Singletary.

Huard won't be getting many reps in training camp and has no chance to win the starting job. It will be interesting to see if the team tries to sneak fifth-rounder Nate Davis onto the practice squad.

49ers signed QB Damon Huard, formerly of the Chiefs.

It's a big step down from Kurt Warner, but a good sign for Shaun Hill. Huard, 36 in July, battled thumb, neck, and head injuries last year. He won't threaten Hill's job and may not even beat out Alex Smith to be second string.

The 49ers are reportedly on the verge of signing free agent QB Damon Huard.

Assuming the Niners agree to a restructured deal with Alex Smith, he and Huard could compete for the backup job. Huard turns 36 years old this July.

Free agent Damon Huard says he wants to keep playing football.

Huard, 36 in July, posted a weak 5.9 YPA and 2:4 TD to INT ratio in five games last year. He could appeal to a club like the Patriots if Matt Cassel is traded, but Jon Kitna and Gus Frerotte figure to draw more interest than him.

Chiefs released QB Damon Huard.

Donnie Edwards and Pat Surtain were also cut in moves that save over $9 million in cap room. Old GM Carl Peterson re-signed Huard to a $7.5 million deal two offseasons ago after he went 5-3 and posted an 11:1 TD to INT ratio in eight starts. He was supposed to eventually pass the torch on to Brodie Croyle, but Croyle hasn't panned out and Huard has battled a number of minor injuries. Turning 36, Huard could follow his younger brother Brock to the broadcast booth.

Damon Huard is not expected back in Kansas City in 2009.

Huard is signed for $2 million, but will turn 36 at the start of training camp next season and his body may be letting him down. Huard battled head, neck, and thumb injuries in 2008 before landing on injured reserve in October.

Damon Huard's season-ending thumb injury involved partially torn ligaments in the finger.

The thumb will heal on its own and not require surgery. It's an injury Huard could have come back from to play late in the season, but the Chiefs are trying to lose games to get higher draft picks in 2009. We think.

Chiefs placed QB Damon Huard (thumb) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The outlook for Kansas City's other skill players isn't great for the rest of the year. The Chiefs will try to get Quinn Gray ready, but that may not be doable for another few games at least as he picks up the offense. Tyler Thigpen will start in Week 8 and most likely Week 9 against the Bucs. Huard is under contract for 2009, but the early guess is he won't be back.

The Chiefs are waiting to see whether Damon Huard's thumb has improved before naming a starter for this weekend.

Has Herm finally soured on Tyler Thigpen? Huard is no world-beater, but he's head and shoulders above the other options in Kansas City right now. Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez owners should be hoping for a green light for Huard.

Damon Huard was knocked out in the fourth quarter Sunday with an injury to the thumb on his right, throwing hand.

Huard entered the game for Brodie Croyle (knee), who is now out for the season. Huard has his hand wrapped heavily in tape and Tyler Thigpen entered. Huard completed 9-of-16 passes for 96 yards before leaving and took a lot of hits. Depending on the severity of the injury, Huard could start next week. He should start over Thigpen if healthy.
Sun, Oct 19, 2008 03:27:00 PM's John Czarnecki reports that that Patriots are "supposedly" interested in acquiring a veteran quarterback.

Then why didn't they during the bye week? The Czar cites Damon Huard and Jon Kitna as possibilities, although neither are 100% healthy. Huard has played in New England before and makes some sense as a backup.

The CBS crew mentioned during Sunday's Chiefs-Panthers broadcast that they "were told (Saturday night) that (Damon) Huard was not physically at 100 percent."

CBS' Kevin Harlan also said that "We talked about this at the break. There’s something not right about Huard today." Huard's numbers (two picks, 4.1 YPA) were indicative of a hurt QB. He may not start another game this year.

Damon Huard was benched in the fourth quarter Sunday with the Chiefs down 34-0 against the Panthers.

Tyler Thigpen replaced him after Huard completed just 10-of-21 passes for 86 yards and two interceptions. He was every bit as bad as those numbers suggest, although Dwayne Bowe cutting off a route while Huard went deep led to his second interception. There's no doubt that the Chiefs will turn back to Brodie Croyle if he's healthy following their Week 6 bye.
