Steelers re-signed LB/LS Matt Stewart and waived WR Isaiah Williams.
Last we heard from the six-year veteran, Stewart was trying to remake himself as a long snapper. The Steelers already have Greg Warren handling those duties, so Stewart would appear to be a longshot for the final roster. Mon, Aug 23, 2010 11:46:00 AM

Steelers released LB Matt Stewart, and waived LBs Lindsey Witten and Johnny Williams.

Witten and Williams were undrafted rookies, the former from UConn. Witten was once considered to be among college football's best pass rushers, but never really took the next step. Stewart was trying to stick as a long snapper.

Steelers signed LB/LS Matt Stewart, formerly of the Cowboys.

Stewart's career as a position player is pretty much over, so he's trying to reinvent himself as a long snapper. With Jared Retkofsky gone, Stewart's competition will be Greg Warren, who's torn his ACL twice in two years.

Cardinals signed OLB Matt Stewart, formerly of the Browns, to a one-year contract.

Stewart spent 2007 on I.R. after undergoing shoulder surgery. Arizona is quite deep at outside linebacker with Chike Okeafor, Travis LaBoy, Bertrand Berry and Clark Haggans in front of Stewart, so he may struggle to last long.

The Cardinals will reportedly host free agent OLB Matt Stewart this week.

Stewart missed all of last season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn muscle in his shoulder. It happened in August, so he should be healthy now.

Browns LB Matt Stewart had surgery to repair a torn muscle in his left shoulder and will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

Losing Willie McGinest for at least six weeks and Stewart for potentially the entire season is a big blow to the Browns' defense, especially from a depth standpoint. Coach Romeo Crennel says Chaun Thompson will move to the outside, with Antwan Peek joining the first-team defense.

Coach Romeo Crennel expects to rotate Matt Stewart, Willie McGinest, and Kamerion Wimbley at outside linebacker.

A rotation would derail any hopes of getting consistent IDP numbers from the three mentioned.

The Browns may consider moving Matt Stewart to inside linebacker.

We suspect the starting inside linebacker next to Andra Davis will be taken in the NFL Draft. But Stewart is an option for the meantime.

LB Matt Stewart (knee) practiced in pads yesterday and is listed as questionable.

"He hasn't played for a while so I don't know that you just want to throw him in there," coach Romeo Crennel said. "It seems logical that if he can go, we'll rotate him in."

Browns linebacker Matt Stewart suffered an MCL injury in last week's game. He's ''week to week''.

Surgery isn't likely but Stewart should be out for some time. Kenard Lang will pick up snaps in his place.
