Coach Romeo Crennel isn't "ruling out" a return from free agent NT Kelly Gregg, who is contemplating retirement.
"I think he would like to come back and play," said Crennel. "I think he likes the situation." The Chiefs have shown interest in several veterans, including Aubrayo Franklin, but they've informed the free agents that no signing will occur until after next month's draft. Free agent NT Kelly Gregg is reportedly leaning toward retirement.

Gregg hasn't made an announcement, but the Oklahoman writes that he plans to go that route. Gregg earned a Super Bowl ring as a practice squad player on the 2000 Ravens squad, then spent the next decade as a top-notch run-plugger. The 35-year-old still holds value as a situational player should he reverse gear and opt for another season.

The Chiefs will try to keep new nose tackle Kelly Gregg's legs fresh by playing him for only 25-30 snaps a game.

He'll be an early-down run stuffer only, replaced in the nickel defense by a younger, more explosive player. Wallace Gilberry and rookie Allen Bailey have been the passing-down interior rushers so far in camp. Gregg is 34 with suspect knees, so it's a smart strategy. He's at his best plugging away at the run.

Chiefs signed NT Kelly Gregg to a one-year contract.

It's a nice get for the Chiefs after they lost both Ron Edwards and Shaun Smith in free agency. Gregg, a ten-year veteran at nose tackle, will help stabilize the point of attack in Kansas City's 3-4 and teach sixth-round rookie Jerrell Powe.

Ravens informed NT Kelly Gregg of his release.

The move was made to clear $3.5 million in salary, but Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun speculates that Gregg could re-sign for a one- or two-year deal worth $1-2 million this season. The Ravens definitely want him back for a rotational role. Now 34, Gregg is going to lose his starting job to Terrence Cody.

Ravens NT Kelly Gregg left Sunday's game with an apparent leg injury.

Gregg, who's been a shell of himself this season, appeared to be in severe pain before trainers rushed onto the field to tend to him. His return is uncertain. Gregg's backup, Terrence Cody, is a healthy scratch Sunday.

As expected, Ravens NT Kelly Gregg (shoulder) has been medically cleared for the start of training camp.

Gregg sat out minicamps after having a partially torn labrum repaired early in the offseason, but he's ready to go. Though Gregg risks losing snaps to rookie Terrence Cody, the 33-year-old run plugger won't lose his starting job.

Ravens NT Kelly Gregg (shoulder surgery) will miss this weekend's minicamp.

Gregg is expected to return to full participation later this month or in June after undergoing surgery to repair a partially torn labrum after the season ended. The Ravens now have Terrence Cody as insurance for the 33-year-old veteran.

Ravens NT Kelly Gregg will undergo surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his shoulder this offseason.

Gregg tore the labrum in the preseason and impressively played through it all year. This helps explain his slow start, and won't threaten his status for 2010 training camp. Gregg, 33, is still playing at a high level. His 63 tackles ranked fourth on the Ravens. Gregg's three sacks also tied for fourth.

Ravens NT Kelly Gregg (shoulder) returned to practice on Monday.

Gregg returned ahead of schedule and will play in Baltimore's exhibition finale. The 32-year-old will be used at defensive tackle next to Haloti Ngata in the Ravens' new 4-3 scheme. Trevor Pryce and Terrell Suggs are the ends.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh says NT Kelly Gregg (shoulder) would be playing if this was the regular season.

Baltimore won't risk one of the keys to its new 4-3 defense, especially with Gregg coming off a lost season and going on 33. He'll be back for Week 1.

Ravens NT Kelly Gregg is expected to regain his starting job from Justin Bannan this season after missing all of 2008 with knee injuries.

Bannan held up well in 15 starts next to Haloti Ngata last year, but Gregg is a centerpiece on Baltimore's defense. Still, he's going to rotate often with Bannan and Dwan Edwards, and probably won't return to 70-80 tackle form.

Gregg has been practicing without a noticeable limp and insists that the is pain-free. There had rumors that Gregg's injury was career-threatening, but signs point to him lining up with the starters in Week 1.
