Free agent ILB Bart Scott (toe surgery) expects to be healthy by May, and is "drawing interest from a few teams."
ESPN New York considers Buffalo, Kansas City and Baltimore potential landing spots. Being less than 100 percent for the start of free agency could cost Scott some money, but he should be able to find a new home for 2013. Feb 22 - 11:46 AM

Free agent ILB Bart Scott's player rep says "the door isn't closed with Jets."

Scott's rep also said he plans to work his client's market at the Combine. It's wise of Scott not to burn any bridges, but the fact that the Jets cut him ahead of a scheduled meeting to discuss his salary suggests his days of wearing green are over. The Jets have a readymade replacement in 2012 third-rounder Demario Davis.

Jets released ILB Bart Scott.

The sides were set to meet Thursday at the Combine, but must have decided there was too much ground to make up in talks. The move gives the Jets an additional $8 million in cap space on top of the roughly $24 million they saved earlier Tuesday by cutting Calvin Pace, Jason Smith, Eric Smith and Josh Baker. Scott was still a useful player in 2012, but came off the field in nickel situations, and tallied just 60 tackles. That was his lowest total since 2004. He'll have to be amenable to incentive-laden deals in free agency. 2012 third-rounder Demario Davis should take Scott's place in New York.
Feb 19 - 2:31 PM

Jets ILB Bart Scott will meet with the team on Thursday regarding a possible pay-cut.

Scott wasn't part of the Jets' initial cap purge on Tuesday, but will join Calvin Pace and company on the street soon enough if he isn't willing to dramatically slash his scheduled $6.9 million salary. Releasing Scott would free up roughly $8 million in cap space, so it's possible no amount of haggling will save his job. Scott wasn't a liability in 2012, but is no longer an impact player.
Feb 19 - 1:57 PM

The Jets can clear $27.7 million in cap space by releasing ILB Bart Scott, OLB Calvin Pace and OT Jason Smith.

Beat writer Manish Mehta considers it a matter of "when," not if, they make the moves. This is surely part of the salary-cap masterplan deposed GM Mike Tannenbaum has been referring to in interviews. Mehta expects 2012 third-rounder Demario Davis to take Scott's place in the starting lineup. S Eric Smith is also a candidate for release.

Jets ILB Bart Scott is undergoing surgery to repair a hyperextended big toe on Friday.

Scott battled the injury since midseason, snapping his consecutive games played streak at 119. Scott only missed the one game, but he finished with an eight-year low in tackles (60) and wasn't an impact player. Having turned 32 in August, Scott indicated in December that he'd take a pay cut to stay with the Jets.
Jan 18 - 3:13 PM

Bart Scott is willing to accept a paycut to stay with the Jets in 2013.

The declining 32-year-old doesn't have much of a choice. He has no prayer of seeing his scheduled $6.9 million salary next season. The most likely course of action is that the Jets will release Scott and consider bringing him back at a bargain-basement price if he doesn't sign elsewhere.

Bart Scott (toe) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.

Scott was ruled out Saturday, but should have a good chance of returning after the Jets' Week 9 bye. In addition to Scott, QB Greg McElroy, RB Bilal Powell, S Eric Smith, DT Damon Harrison, TE Jeff Cumberland, and DT Kenrick Ellis have all been ruled inactive.

Bart Scott (toe) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.

Scott didn't practice all week and was listed on the injury report as doubtful. His streak of consecutive game played will officially come to an end. Demario Davis will replace Scott in the starting lineup Sunday. TE Jeff Cumberland (hand) has also been ruled out.

It's expected Bart Scott will miss the Jets' Week 8 contest against the Dolphins due to a toe injury.

Scott's 119 consecutive game streak would come to an end if he does in fact sit out. With the bye looming in Week 9, Scott would essentially have three weeks to rest before the Jets' next game. Last week, Scott was pulled from the nickel package in favor of rookie Demario Davis, who would likely get the start and play an every-down role with Scott on the sideline.

Jets ILB Bart Scott was removed from the nickel package in Week 7 due to what Rex Ryan described as a toe injury.

Scott was not listed on the Week 7 injury report. He is a poor coverage player, so perhaps Ryan just came up with this convenient excuse to bench Scott on passing downs against New England's high-octane passing offense. Scott was replaced in the nickel by rookie Demario Davis, who racked up seven tackles (six solo). Scott had just one tackle and may lose the job permanently. He played just nine snaps.

Jets LB Bart Scott threatened to punch a reporter for taking a picture of him as he exited the locker room.

The reporter, Dan Leberfeld, who works for the website Jets Confidential and Sirius XM Radio, was reportedly doing a story on Scott's media boycott since training camp opened. This isn't the first incident like this we have seen out of Scott. He was fined $10,000 by the team for making an obscene gesture at a Post photographer in the locker room last January. The Jets released a statement yesterday saying they are looking into the incident. The NFL said it is a club matter and would not be investigated by the league.

Jets ILB Bart Scott says he recently had a "great conversation" with coach Rex Ryan, and that he's "comfortable" with his role.

Scott also confirmed he's lost 10-15 pounds this offseason. "First time (I've) met abs five and six and I'm excited." Had Scott's $4.2 million 2012 salary not been fully guaranteed, he'd either be with a new club or on the open market.

Speaking at the owners meetings Tuesday, coach Rex Ryan said the Jets are planning to keep disgruntled ILB Bart Scott.

"Why wouldn’t (he be back)?" Ryan said. "I've had great discussions with Bart. He’s got his weight down. He felt that he probably got a little too heavy last year." According to the New York Daily News, Scott has shed 10-15 pounds. ESPN New York reported last week the Jets were still shopping Scott after granting him permission to seek a trade in February, but that his guaranteed $4.2 million salary continued to be a "deal breaker."

ESPN New York reports the Jets are still shopping disgruntled ILB Bart Scott.

However, his $4.2 million guaranteed salary continues to be a "deal breaker." Although GM Mike Tannenbaum insists Scott will participate in offseason workouts, it's likely that he will eventually be released.
