Ravens OLB Terrell Suggs admits he added too much weight down the stretch of last season, adversely affecting his performance.
It's just the latest example of an NFL player admitting his play declined after gaining weight. (For fantasy projection purposes, it's notable Andre Ellington and Ryan Mathews have gained weight this offseason.) Suggs managed 20 tackles and one sack over last year's final eight games. He had 60 tackles and nine sacks in the season's first half. Suggs turns 32 this October. Jun 18 - 8:18 PM

Ravens signed OLB Terrell Suggs to a new five-year, $28.5 million contract.

He's now signed through 2018. It's a win-win for both sides. Suggs is now set up to finish his career with the Ravens, while the team clears $4.6 million in much-needed cap room for 2014. The new deal contains a reasonable $16 million guaranteed across five seasons, which is a team-friendly sum. His base salaries never reach $5 million over the contract's life. Suggs blames his lousy second half of 2013 on "trying to do too much," and plans on coming back in "phenomenal shape." The Ravens can now look to re-work Haloti Ngata's deal. Baltimore is currently about $16.5 million under the 2014 salary cap.

The Ravens have reached a multi-year extension with OLB Terrell Suggs that saves the team salary cap space.

The new deal has been "verbally" agreed to, and Suggs will sign it on Monday morning. Details of the extension/restructure are unavailable, but under Suggs' old contract he was due a hefty $7.8 million base salary entering a contract year. That salary is will be chopped significantly, with Suggs losing little or no money and getting most or all of the rest back via a "signing" bonus. 31-year-old Suggs' previous 2014 salary cap charge was a whopping $12.4 million.

The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens are "making progress" in contract talks with Terrell Suggs.

Suggs has one year remaining on his current deal and is set to count $12.4 million against the cap next season. Extending Suggs would allow the Ravens to free up money to sign in-house free agents Dennis Pitta and Eugene Monroe, among others. Baltimore is an estimated $11.88 million under the 2014 cap.

GM Ozzie Newsome was noncommittal on Terrell Suggs' 2014 status with the Ravens.

Suggs has a $7.8 million salary in 2014 and is set to count $12.4 million against the cap. Newsome wisely gained leverage in upcoming renegotiation talks by going public with his stance that if the money doesn't work, the Ravens might have to move on from the 2011 Defensive Player of the Year. Over the final eight games of 2013, the 31-year-old Suggs totaled 20 tackles and one sack.
Jan 8 - 10:44 AM

The Baltimore Sun believes Terrell Suggs will need to restructure his contract or take a pay cut to remain with the Ravens.

Suggs is set to count $12.4 million against the salary cap in the final year of his deal. The Ravens don't have much cap space to spare. After registering nine sacks in his first eight games of 2013, Suggs' play fell off dramatically as he notched just one sack over the second half of the season. The Ravens would save $7.8 million against the 2014 cap by cutting Suggs.

Terrell Suggs was added to the Ravens' injury report Thursday, missing practice with a foot issue.

It's always a concern when an injury pops up out of the blue like this, but beat writer Aaron Wilson would be "very surprised" if Suggs missed Sunday's game against the Bengals. His status will be updated in the next 48 hours.

Terrell Suggs has at least one sack in each game so far.

Coming off a partially torn Achilles' tendon in 2012, Suggs has regained the form that made him the Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. Through five games, he has 36 tackles and seven sacks. When he won DPOY honors, he recorded 70 tackles, 14 sacks, seven forced fumbles and two interceptions. In Sunday's win over the Dolphins, Suggs literally single-handedly put the game away by brutalizing LT Jonathan Martin and RT Tyson Clabo in the fourth quarter.

Ravens OLB Terrell Suggs is "down nearly 20 pounds" from 2012.

There had been reports all offseason of Suggs slimming down, but never a number. LBs coach Ted Monachino believes Suggs is on a mission. "It’s a different Suggs than I’ve seen in the last four seasons," Monachino said. "He feels fast, he feels flexible and he feels strong." Plenty of players feel fast, flexible and strong in camp, but it's a great sign after Suggs appeared sluggish coming off his Achilles' injury last season. Going on 31, Suggs is signed through 2014.

Ravens OLB Terrell Suggs reported to training camp "lighter, stronger, and faster," and reportedly appears "on a mission" this season.

Suggs lost eight games last year to a partially torn Achilles', and wasn't quite the same upon return. "This season I have come back lighter because I just want to be the best player I can be," Suggs explained. "I know critics are supposed to have their opinions, but I'm getting pumped to prove them wrong." Look for Baltimore's defense to ascend back into the top ten or five this season.

The Baltimore Sun reports Terrell Suggs is "noticeably thinner" than he was last season, where he lost the vast majority of his offseason to a torn Achilles'.

Suggs didn't play with the same explosiveness after he returned in Week 7, and part of it may have had to do with lost conditioning time. Torn Achilles' have become far less daunting to return from in recent years, but going on 31, it's quite possible Suggs will never return to his pre-injury form.

Ravens OLB Terrell Suggs calls new addition Elvis Dumervil the first "dominant pass rusher" he's ever been paired with.

"He is a phenomenal pass rusher and I have not had a chance to play alongside another dominant pass rusher," Suggs said. Intentional or not, it's a shot at departed OLB Paul Kruger. As a pass-rushing edge presence, Dumervil is a clear upgrade on Kruger. After seeing what Kruger accomplished opposite Suggs last season, expectations should be high for Dumervil's 2013.

Terrell Suggs is not planning to have surgery on his torn right biceps.

Suggs suffered the injury in Week 13 and missed just one game. The Ravens had been seeking a second opinion on the arm earlier this week, so they must have received good news. Suggs, 31 next season, will be counted on to return to his dominant self as a pass rusher with Paul Kruger likely leaving via free agency.

The Ravens have sought a second opinion on a biceps injury suffered by OLB Terrell Suggs on December 2.

The injury cost Suggs just one game -- and he returned to become a force in the playoffs -- but offseason surgery to repair the potential tear is a "legitimate possibility." With Paul Kruger seeming likely to depart via free agency, the Ravens will be counting on Suggs as their primary pass rusher in 2013.

The Baltimore Sun mentions OLB Terrell Suggs and DT Haloti Ngata as potential restructure candidates.

Suggs carries a $13.02 million cap hit in 2013 and has two years left on his deal, while Ngata will have an $11.5 million cap hit with three years remaining. Both players would likely get extensions if a restructuring occurred. GM Ozzie Newsome is going to have a lot on his plate after the Super Bowl.
