Falcons released QB Chris Redman.
Redman's highest passer rating this preseason was 71.1; it's quite possible that he's finished as an effective backup. The Falcons have signed journeyman Luke McCown, who has experience in Dirk Koetter's system. This move may ultimately say more about the progress of impressive undrafted rookie Dominique Davis. Falcons agreed to terms with QB Chris Redman on a one-year contract.

Matt Ryan's backup each of the past four years, Redman has attempted just 34 passes since the end of the 2009 season. Four months shy of his 35th birthday with only 500 career attempts to his name, Redman is one of the league's poorer back-up options.

Falcons re-signed QB Chris Redman to a two-year, $5.6 million contract.

It's a good deal for both sides. Redman, now 32, knows the Falcons' offense well and was solid in relief of an injured Matt Ryan late last season. John Parker Wilson is expected to return as the No. 3 quarterback.

Chris Redman completed 23-of-34 passes for 303 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's loss to the Saints.

This was like night and day compared to Redman's performance in Week 13. He was under significantly less pressure and could have had a much bigger day if a bomb didn't go off Michael Jenkins' fingertips. His only mistake came at the most critical time, when he tried to force the ball to Roddy White and it was picked off late in the fourth quarter. Matt Ryan's status for next week against the Jets is unclear, but we're tentatively expecting Redman to get the nod again.

Chris Redman completed 23-of-44 passes for 235 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's loss to the Eagles.

Now we know why Redman was selling insurance before the Bobby Petrino brought him back to the Falcons. Redman was ridiculously inaccurate and showed no timing with his receivers. Virtually all of his stats, including the touchdown, came in complete garbage time while the Eagles were playing backups. Redman is barely usable even in two-QB leagues.

Chris Redman is expected to be the Falcons' starting quarterback against the Eagles in Week 13.

Redman came off the bench in Week 12 to throw for 243 yards and two TDs on 23-of-41 passing after Matt Ryan suffered ligament damage in his toe. However, Philly's pass defense is far better than Tampa's, and Redman doesn't have another favorable matchup for the rest of the fantasy season (vs. NO, @ NYJ, vs. BUF). He's only worth grabbing in two-QB leagues.

After replacing Matt Ryan in the first quarter, Chris Redman completed 23-of-41 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns against the Bucs in Week 12.

The Falcons went to a conservative passing attack after Ryan left, and Redman was heavily pressured by the Bucs' front-seven. He was able to move the chains by using Tony Gonzalez and Michael Jenkins in the short passing game while leading the Falcons to a comeback victory in the two-minute drill. He'll head back to the bench if Ryan (toe) is able to play in Week 13.

After his strong half Saturday against the Chargers, Chris Redman is expected to be the Falcons' No. 2 QB.

He looked better than any backup QB has this preseason. D.J. Shockley and undrafted rookie John Parker Wilson are battling for the No. 3 job.

Chris Redman will start the Falcons preseason opener Saturday in Jacksonville.

That might give Redman official frontrunner status, but he's going to have to hold off rookie Matt Ryan through the four preseason games.

Chris Redman continues to quarterback the Falcons' first-team offense.

Matt Ryan stands second on the depth chart, while D.J. Shockley and Joey Harrington have shared time with the third and fourth units. All four should see ample preseason snaps, though we'd guess Ryan will get the most.

Chris Redman will enter post-draft minicamps as the Falcons' first-team quarterback.

Redman might not last the whole season, but Atlanta would be smart to led him take the punishment that's coming instead of Matt Ryan. Wouldn't want Ryan to get shell shocked with a mess of an offensive line in front of him.

Chris Redman will see the majority of first-team snaps at the Falcons' first offseason minicamp this week.

If Redman impresses, the Falcons may feel slightly less urgency to draft a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick. Even if Redman is lights out, however, they still figure to use an early choice on a signal caller.

Chris Redman is Atlanta's clear incumbent starting quarterback following Joey Harrington's release.

The move could pave the way for Atlanta to use their third overall pick in the draft on Matt Ryan. Redman could then teach the kid everything he learned from Bobby Petrino.

Falcons re-signed QB Chris Redman to a two-year, $5 million contract. The deal included a $2 million signing bonus. He can make $3 million more in escalators.

Redman completed 59.7 percent of his 149 passes last season for ten touchdowns and five interceptions. At this price, Redman would be the team's starter if the season began today, but the Falcons are expected to upgrade. Joey Harrington could be getting a pink slip shortly.

"All signs point" to the Falcons wanting to bring back Chris Redman next season.

Redman is a free agent and we thought his Falcons career ended with Bobby Petrino's departure. But he may have a better shot to be back than Byron Leftwich and Joey Harrington, who are both on the roster. Atlanta has to be scouting Matt Ryan very closely.
