The Bengals recently tried out free agent OLB Adalius Thomas.

Thomas has background with Bengals coach Marvin Lewis from their days together in Baltimore, when Lewis was the Ravens' defensive coordinator. The 33-year-old has also had tryouts with the Dolphins and Jets this season.

The Dolphins brought free agent LB Adalius Thomas in for a workout Tuesday, one day after he met with the Jets.

At the very least, this should force the Jets to make a decision as they have waffled about bringing in Thomas for a few months now. Thomas, 33, has barely gotten any nibbles on the open market because he can no longer rush the passer at a high level. He had three sacks in 14 games for the Patriots last season.

Free agent OLB Adalius Thomas reportedly visited the Jets on Monday.

Now that the first game of the season is over, teams are free to sign vested veterans without guaranteeing their salary for the full season. The Jets are also expected to look at defensive linemen with Kris Jenkins (ACL tear) out for the season.

Calvin Pace's foot injury could speed up the process, but the Jets likely don't want to guarantee Thomas' salary for the entire season. By waiting until Week 2, they can cut him at any time and only owe the guaranteed money.

Calvin Pace's multiple-week foot injury makes it a better fit. Thomas can play both inside and outside linebacker, though his pass rush skills have diminished greatly. The 33-year-old might be able to help stop the run.

Coach Rex Ryan shot down speculation that the Jets would be interested in signing free agent Adalius Thomas to replace DE Ropati Pitoutua (Achilles' tendon).

Ryan pointed out that Thomas is more of an outside linebacker in his scheme, so the fit just isn't right. The 33-year-old has drawn little interest on the open market since being released by the Pats in April.

Jets coach Rex Ryan indicated three months ago that that he might have interest in Thomas, his former pupil in Baltimore. But as Thomas is entering his age-33 season with declining skills, he's finding out that even Ryan is going to pass. The pass-rusher will wait for an injury in camp to get some nibbles.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora hears that a marriage with Thomas' former coordinator Rex Ryan and the Jets is "doubtful at best." The Broncos and 49ers aren't interested, and the Dolphins are going with a youth movement at outside linebacker. Turning 33 before the start of the season, Thomas' best years are far behind him.

49ers coach Mike Singletary indicated Friday that the team may eventually look into signing free agent OLB Adalius Thomas.

"There could be, but right now I think we have our place full," Singletary said. The Niners went hard after Thomas in 2007 free agency before he signed with New England, though his play has declined since. He could become an option if unsigned RFA Manny Lawson sits out mandatory offseason work.

Jets coach Rex Ryan stated Friday that the team will "definitely" consider signing free agent OLB Adalius Thomas.

"We’ll always listen to anything," said Ryan, also praising the 33-year-old's versatility. "I’m not sure. We’ll see. We’ll definitely consider him." The sides aren't believed to engaged in any contract negotiations yet.

Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum confirmed on WFAN radio Tuesday that "nothing is imminent" between the team and free agent Adalius Thomas.

"Maybe down the line," Tannenbaum allowed, "but really nothing imminent right now. We’re going to stand pat with what we have." Both the New York Daily News and New York Post reported Tuesday that the Jets are not close to signing Thomas. No other likely suitors have emerged yet.

The source used the words "doubtful right now" when asked about the potential marriage. The Dolphins also don't seem to be overly interested. It's possible that the 33-year-old will have to wait for injuries to strike to catch on.

The Boston Globe reports that the Dolphins are not expected to seriously pursue free agent OLB Adalius Thomas.

The Fins are going with a "youth movement" at linebacker, and appear committed to getting second-round pick Koa Misi significant rookie-year playing time along with Cam Wake and promising late-rounder Chris McCoy. No visit is set up yet, but the Jets are the early favorites to sign Thomas.

Gronkowski emerged from surgery Monday afternoon. The new plate will continue to hold together the fracture in his left forearm, which was surgically repaired four times because of complications due to the infection. Gronkowski is now expected to undergo back surgery in 3-4 weeks, the recovery timetable for which will last roughly ten weeks. 	2	Aaron Hernandez Sidelined ESPN Boston reports that "word is" Aaron Hernandez (shoulder) can expect a four-month recovery period.
