The Ravens have called a press conference for Thursday to announce the retirement of long-time kicker Matt Stover.
Although official transactions are not allowed during the lockout, Stover is expected to symbolically sign a one-day contract to retire with the franchise he played under for 18 years. Until 2009, Stover had been the only place-kicker in Ravens history. One of the most accurate kickers of all time, Stover will retire fourth all-time with 2,004 points. Wed, May 25, 2011 10:19:00 AM

Free agents Matt Stover and Shaun Suisham are considered "early favorites" to sign on as the Bengals' kicker for the rest of the season.

The Bengals have two open roster spots after placing K Mike Nugent and CB Morgan Trent on injured reserve Monday. One of them will go to the winner of the Stover-Suisham battle. Stover is 42, but has history with Marvin Lewis.

Free agent K Matt Stover says he'll begin kicking in June to get himself in shape for training camp.

Stover says he's not retiring, but he also emphasized that he's not just "hanging on" for another shot at a job. He's a fallback option for the Cowboys and Ravens if their high-risk kickers implode in training camp.

Free agent K Matt Stover says he will retire if he doesn't get an offer to play in a family-friendly environment.

"I'm willing to let this thing go at the drop of a hat if that's what is best for my family," Stover said. Stover, 42, said he would return to Baltimore if asked, but the Ravens look like they will go with Billy Cundiff. Stover likley won't get a job unless he's willing to be an injury replacement down the line.

Matt Stover has expressed interest in kicking for the Cowboys next season.

Adam Vinatieri (knee) is expected to be healthy next season, leading the Colts to cut ties with Stover. The Cowboys need a reliable field goal kicker, and they have David Buehler around for kickoffs and long-distance attempts.

Matt Stover, who turns 42 on Wednesday, will become the oldest player to ever participate in the Super Bowl.

The Colts' decision to use Stover instead of the nicked up Adam Vinatieri in the playoffs has proven wise. Stover has made all five of his postseason field goal attempts.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he would consider bringing back K Matt Stover for the 2010 season.

Stover is currently kicking for the Colts, but they're expected to part ways with him when Adam Vinatieri returns to full health. Billy Cundiff remains a possibility as well, though he's been plagued by accuracy issues since entering the league in 2002.

Colts coach Jim Caldwell named Matt Stover his kicker for the postseason.

Adam Vinatieri will stay on the roster, but the Colts clearly aren't comfortable with his injured knee. Stover is now a prime option in playoff fantasy leagues with the Colts favored to play two games in the dome and one in good weather.

Coach Jim Caldwell indicated that the Colts will carry two kickers again this week.

The Colts want to ensure that Adam Vinatieri has no setbacks in his surgically repaired knee before cutting Matt Stover loose. He'll likely stay on the roster until the days leading up to the playoffs.

Colts signed K Matt Stover, formerly of the Ravens.

Stover will fill in for Adam Vinatieri, who is reportedly out six weeks with a right knee injury. Stover, 41, will get plenty of extra point opportunities but his field goal attempts may be limited. Vinatieri had just eight field goal attempts through five games this season.

The Colts will work out free agent kicker Matt Stover on Tuesday.

Indy is concerned about Adam Vinatieri's knee enough to bring in a starting-caliber kicker like Stover for a tryout, but the Colts aren't likely to sign him immediately, as they are going into their bye week. Punter Pat McAfee could handle the duties in a pinch, also.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh still has not ruled out the possibility of re-signing free agent K Matt Stover.

Graham Gano is out of the picture. The Ravens want Steven Hauschka to take the job, so they don't have to carry two placekickers. Hauschka's 27-yard chip-shot miss last week, however, means that he'll have to be perfect on Thursday.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh has continued to stay in touch with free agent kicker Matt Stover.

Baltimore is letting Steven Hauschka and undrafted FA Graham Gano battle at minicamp, but Stover would probably be the most reliable option. Stover, the second most accurate kicker in league history, wants to keep kicking.

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome says the team may sign a veteran free agent to compete with Steven Hauschka, but Matt Stover is not an option at this point.

Newsome will first attempt to sign an undrafted rookie. If that fails, he'll start looking at veteran options. Stover is still reliable on field goals, but the Ravens clearly want to go in another direction.

The Ravens will keep tabs on free agent K Matt Stover, but only consider him a "fallback option" if they can't do better.

Stover is no longer useful on kickoffs and Baltimore wants to develop 2008 kickoff specialist Steven Hauschka. They'll likely bring in a veteran too.
