49ers released OT Jonas Jennings.
The move saves $716,000 under the cap and probably sets up the 49ers to sign Marvel Smith. Jennings is only 31, can run block, and has experience at both tackle positions. He's never played a 16-game season, however, and missed a startling 41 of 64 possible starts in San Francisco. Jennings is also recovering from shoulder surgery, so he may not resurface quickly. The 49ers will wait for Jonas Jennings to heal from shoulder surgery before releasing the offensive tackle.

Jennings, 31, had surgery for a dislocated shoulder in November. Some team will likely give him a chance to start, but he'll need a capable backup.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that the 49ers plan to release OT Jonas Jennings.

It's a long overdue move. Jennings' $4.2 million scheduled salary would be more than those of San Francisco's five starting offensive linemen combined.

49ers RT Jonas Jennings underwent surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder on Tuesday. He was placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

His season lasted just one and half games. Jennings has two years left on the $36 million contract he signed as a then-marquee free agent back in 2005. After three surgeries to the same shoulder, he'll likely be a cap casualty this offseason. It's about time the 49ers cut their losses on Jennings, who drew a reputation for being unwilling to play through pain in San Francisco.

49ers RT Jonas Jennings (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 5.

Replacement Barry Sims got beat up by Saints LE Charles Grant last week and it won't get any easier for him this Sunday against Patriots LE Ty Warren.

49ers OT Jonas Jennings (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 4.

Substitute Barry Sims is better than Jennings in pass pro anyways.

49ers declared CB Shawntae Spencer, CB Donald Strickland, CB Marcus Hudson, RT Jonas Jennings, QB Jamie Martin, LB Ahmad Brooks, LB Tully Banta-Cain and OL Cody Wallace inactive for Week 3 against the Seahawks.

San Francisco will be without three cornerbacks, making life easier on Jon Kitna. Barry Sims will sub for Jennings.

49ers RT Jonas Jennings (shoulder) and CB Shawntae Spencer (ankle) have been ruled out for this week.

Jennings isn't much better than his backup, Barry Sims, and his shoulder sprain could cost him his starting job. Spencer's loss at nickel back isn't too major against a Lions offense that won't go three wide often.

49ers RT Jonas Jennings suffered a right shoulder sprain in Sunday's win.

His status moving forward is uncertain, but Jennings had two false starts against Seattle and Barry Sims played better in his place in the second half.

49ers RT Jonas Jennings has reported to Organized Team Activities.

It's the first time he's been around the club this offseason. Jennings is switching to the right side after playing left tackle the past three years. The team needs to find a good backup because he's extremely injury prone.

49ers OT Jonas Jennings received an excused absence from the team's offseason conditioning program.

He's reportedly dealing with a serious family matter. Jennings fell into coach Mike Nolan's doghouse last year, but his absence isn't related to a football decision or his ankle surgery. Jennings is expected back on the team.

The 49ers say they will bring back LT Jonas Jennings in 2008, but he'll have to compete for a job.

They could still easily give Jennings the axe if his offseason doesn't go smoothly. The injury prone 30-year-old isn't a favorite in the locker room.

49ers placed LT Jonas Jennings on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain, ending his season.

Jennings has played well in spurts since signing from Buffalo in 2005, but has too often been injured. There has also been talk of Jennings being unpopular around the team. He'll have surgery to correct loose bodies in the ankle. Adam Snyder, who struggled against John Abraham in Week 9, takes over on Alex Smith's blind side. Don't be shocked if Jennings is cut after the season.

Jonas Jennings (ankle) missed Thursday's practice for the second straight day.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Adam Snyder is expected to start over Jennings at left tackle Sunday against the Saints.

Jonas Jennings and Justin Smiley sat during the fourth quarter Sunday, with Adam Snyder and David Baas replacing them.

Coach Mike Nolan said afterward that it was part of the game plan rather than a benching, but Jennings told reporters that he was unaware of such a plan. Nolan indicated that both Jennings and Smiley remain starters.
