Chargers released WR Josh Reed.
The acquisition of Patrick Crayton sealed his fate. Reed, a 30-year-old possession receiver, managed just 10 touchdowns in eight seasons for Buffalo. He can help a team on third downs in the slot, but there aren't many receivers with less after-the-catch ability. Sat, Sep 4, 2010 12:48:00 PM

The acquisition of Patrick Crayton is expected to end Josh Reed's brief tenure with the Chargers.

The same San Diego Union-Tribune column claims that Crayton could push Legedu Naanee for the No. 2 wideout job, but we're not taking the speculation seriously. Crayton, 31, was acquired to add depth to a Bolts receiver corps that can't rely on fragile third option Craig Davis, and is losing Vincent Jackson. Naanee solidified a starting spot with an outstanding preseason.

The Chargers may end up keeping just four wide receivers this season.

Much will depend on the health of Buster Davis, so it's hardly etched in stone. Davis was dealing with a hip pointer as recently as late last week. If the Bolts shed their fifth wideout, Josh Reed would have to hold off rookies Jeremy Williams and Seyi Ajirotutu for the final spot.

The Chargers concede that newly signed Josh Reed will not be a replacement for Vincent Jackson should the restricted free agent miss time this season.

V-Jax and Malcom Floyd are primarily down-field threats whereas Reed is a possession receiver working the middle of the field. "Josh and Buster [Davis] are going to compete for those types of plays," coach Norv Turner said. Legedu Naanee would start opposite Floyd if V-Jax sits out.

Chargers signed Josh Reed, formerly of the Bills, to a one-year contract.

With Vincent Jackson threatening an in-season holdout and also facing a possible league suspension, GM A.J. Smith isn't waiting around. Still, there's a reason Reed has been on the street since free agency opened. He's a low-end slot/possession receiver with few playmaking skills. He's just depth along with names like Buster Davis and Legedu Naanee. It's also confirmation that the Chargers aren't interested in free agent Terrell Owens.

The player rep for WR Josh Reed conceded that it's "highly unlikely" the free agent will sign with the Patriots.

It's just a poor fit. Reed works best out of the slot, where the Pats have Julian Edelman ready to step in until Wes Welker returns later in the year. Reed will try to land a job elsewhere as the primary slot receiver.

Free agent WR Josh Reed is scheduled to visit with the Patriots on Monday.

The Pats need a receiver with separation skills opposite Randy Moss, though we're highly skeptical that Reed meets the criteria. The furthest thing from a playmaker with a career 11.5 yards per reception and just 10 TDs in eight seasons, Reed at least boasts reliable hands.

The Bills will not offer a contract to impending unrestricted free agent Josh Reed.

Reed's eight-year career with the Bills is over. He's a low-end slot receiver that has never reached 600 receiving yards in a season. With both Reed and Terrell Owens gone, James Hardy will get a real crack at the No. 2 receiver job opposite Lee Evans.

Bills declared WR Josh Reed, OT Andre Ramsey, LB Ashlee Palmer, S/LB Bryan Scott, OL Jonathan Scott, LB Nic Harris, WR Steve Johnson, and third QB Trent Edwards inactive for Week 17.

Reed was ruled out for Week 17 with an ankle injury. The sluggish-running slot receiver finishes his ho-hum contract season with 27 catches and one TD.

Josh Reed (ankle) did not travel to Atlanta and is out for Sunday's game.

Reed had just 27 catches in 14 games as the Bills' slot receiver.

Josh Reed caught three passes for 40 yards in Week 11.

It was only the third time he's topped 30 yards this season. He has just 22 receptions and one touchdown, and remains a bad fantasy play.

Bills WR Josh Reed (fibula) is listed as probable for Week 6.

Reed has just 11 receptions for 109 yards through five games. He was excused from Friday's practice, but will play Sunday against the Jets.

Bills WRs Josh Reed (fibula) and Roscoe Parrish (thigh) popped up on Thursday's injury report as limited.

Neither injury is believed to be serious enough to keep them out of Sunday's game against the Jets. The Bills' third and fourth receivers are far from fantasy options.

Josh Reed caught six passes for 60 yards against the Saints in Week 3.

Reed led the team in receptions and yards, but that's not likely to happen again this season. He's not a fantasy option.

Bills slot receiver Josh Reed (ankle) was limited in practice Friday.

Reed will likely play Sunday against the Saints, but isn't 100 percent and is listed as questionable. Don't touch him in fantasy leagues.
