Redskins released OG Mike Williams.
The move saves $840,000 in salary. Williams, 31, missed all of last season on the reserve/non-football illness list due to blood clots. He's still on blood thinners, and we suspect Williams' nondescript NFL career is through. Sat, Jul 30, 2011 01:05:00 PM

Redskins placed OG Mike Williams (blood clots) on the reserve/non-football illness list.

Williams is out for the 2010 season, taking blood thinners to alleviate blood clots near his heart. The Redskins hope to re-evaluate Williams in six months or so, at which point he could be medically cleared for next season.

Updating a previous item, Redskins OG Mike Williams (blood clots) acknowledges that he won't play in 2010 but insists his NFL career is not over.

"I'm not dead," a determined Williams said. "If I get 100 percent cleared, I'm going to play football." Williams also insists that his weight has not been a factor in the blood clots developing and that he's in "great shape" for an NFL guard.

Mike Williams, slated to compete for the Redskins' starting right guard job, is expected to miss the upcoming season because of blood clots near his heart.

The condition could also be career threatening. While we don't believe Williams would have beaten out Artis Hicks for the starting job, his loss depletes what little depth the Redskins had up front. The former No. 4 overall pick signed a two-year, $1.49 million deal in March.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan believes that Mike Williams "has a promising future in the league" as a right guard.

The once-left-for-dead former No. 4 overall pick is locked in as Washington's starting right guard at the present. "I really didn't work out before in the offseason," admitted Williams, 30. "I was one of those guys. It took me some time, but I get it." Listed at 370, Williams is currently down to 332.

Redskins re-signed OL Mike Williams to a multi-year deal.

Williams surprisingly survives the regime change in Washington. After beating the odds -- and dropping 100 pounds -- to make a comeback last season, Williams ended up getting more playing time than expected due to injuries upfront. He's strictly a reserve.

Redskins placed RG Mike Williams (foot) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Williams, who lost more than 100 pounds last offseason in an effort to turn his career around, got a chance for significant playing time this season after the Redskins were decimated by injuries. He enters free agency in 2010.

Redskins RG Mike Williams suffered tore a muscle in his right foot during Sunday night's loss to the Cowboys and is out for Week 17.

The massive Williams will likely be replaced by Will Montgomery. The Redskins' offensive line has been cursed all season.

Redskins RG Mike Williams was lifted from Sunday night's game with a toe injury and will not return.

The Redskins already have a couple of fill-ins along the offensive line. Will Montgomery replaced Williams at right guard, which could spell trouble for QB Jason Campbell and RB Quinton Ganther.

In his first start since 2005, Mike Williams is getting the nod over Chad Rinehart at right guard for the Redskins Sunday.

We can't wait until he and Panthers DT Hollis Thomas practice their sumo routine in the middle. Williams' start says a lot about the lack of progress of 2008 third-rounder Rinehart. It's still a good matchup for Clinton Portis.

Beat writer Jason Reid considers former first-round rehab project Mike Williams a "lock" to make the Redskins' final roster.

There is reportedly feeling in the organization that Williams could become a starter "early in the year," despite an up-and-down training camp at best. Jason Campbell has avoided preseason sacks, but this says plenty about Washington's woeful line. Williams has been out of the NFL since 2005.

Beat writer Jason Reid says it has been "painful to watch" OT Mike Williams in pass protection during training camp.

Williams has been out of football since 2005 and lost over 100 pounds in just a few months time. While Williams adjusts to his new body and relearns footwork, pass rushers are abusing him on a regular basis. He's a long way from contributing.

Redskins OT Mike Williams is down to 342 pounds after beginning the year at about 450.

Stephon Heyer isn't locked in as the starter at right tackle, so Williams and Jeremy Bridges will push him during training camp. It would make for a great story if Williams finds away to crack the starting lineup by Week 1.

Redskins OT Mike Williams has now lost nearly 100 pounds and is at 354.

The fourth overall pick in the 2002 draft appears to finally have the motivation to get in shape. Three years out of football because you're fat can do that. We'll see how he holds up in training camp, but the 'Skins need depth on their offensive line.
Sat, Jul 18, 2009 08:49:00 AM

Redskins reclamation project Mike Williams now weighs 385 pounds, down from the 404 a month ago.

The 'Skins are trying to get him to the point where he can play every down for 16 games. To say that is a tall order would be an understatement.
