Ex-Vikings DT Pat Williams is officially retiring from football.
The 40-year old 15-year veteran hasn't played a snap since 2010. One half of the "Williams Wall," Williams will sign a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Vikings. One of the better run stoppers of his generation, Williams is hanging it up with three Pro Bowl berths and 199 career appearances. Tue, Apr 23, 2013 02:47:00 PM

The Panthers have reportedly shown interest in free agent NT Pat Williams.

Williams has also drawn interest from the Pats, but nothing has "intensified" there. Carolina could definitely use an early-down run-stopping specialist after losing Ron Edwards for the season.

Free agent NT Pat Williams is drawing interest from the Patriots.

Williams has received no known interest on the open market other than from the Vikings. New England has been kicking the tires on just about every veteran free agent this offseason, so it's unclear if they have serious interest. According to ESPN's John Clayton, the Pats "might" bring Williams in for a visit this weekend.

Coach Leslie Frazier reiterated Friday that he wants free agent NT Pat Williams back with the Vikings.

"I’d love to see him retire as a Viking," said Frazier. The Vikes may have had a different approach had they acquired a nose tackle prospect in the draft. Instead, it makes plenty of sense for Williams to return on a one-year deal.

Free agent NT Pat Williams now considers himself "50-50" to return to the Vikings after a talk with coach Leslie Frazier.

Williams spoke to reporters at teammate Ray Edwards' boxing match Friday. The 38-year-old run plugger spoke to Frazier before the lockout began, and also on the day it was briefly lifted just before the draft. Williams probably has one strong year left, and the Vikings should do what it takes to retain him if they're going to keep intact one of the NFL's top run defenses.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier hasn't given up on re-signing free agent NT Pat Williams.

"We had a good talk," Frazier said. "I think we're on the same page with some things. Love Pat. Been great for me." We wouldn't bank on a change of heart from Williams. He seems to have his mind set on turning the page and joining a legit contender.

Free agent NT Pat Williams confirmed Wednesday that he will not be back with the Vikings in 2011.

"Everything's good," said the 38-year-old. "I am not coming back. Going to finish (his career) elsewhere." Williams could be a decent stopgap for a 3-4 team in desperate need of a nose tackle. In Minnesota, Letroy Guion is considered the tentative favorite to replace Pat next to Kevin Williams.

Impending free agent NT Pat Williams revealed that he played through a torn left tricep muscle in 2010.

It was likely a small tear but painful nonetheless. Williams was unable to generate as much of a push while playing through the injury, leading in part to a disappointing season. The 38-year-old plans on playing at least one more season, and he should be fully healthy by training camp.

NT Pat Williams and DT Kevin Williams are "still deciding" whether or not they will appeal the Minnesota Court of Appeals' recent ruling in the StarCaps case.

The court sided with the NFL, paving the way for the "Williams Wall" to finally serve their two-year old suspensions for violating the league's anti-doping policy. Were they to appeal, it would be to the Minnesota Supreme Court. Pat Williams recently expressed a desire to put the saga behind him, so don't be surprised if an appeal is not filed.

Impending free agent NT Pat Williams is ready to concede a loss to the NFL in the Star Caps case.

"I just want it to be over," Williams said. "If I lose, I lose ... It's cost me so much money, close to $1 million (in legal fees). It ain't cheap. It's too stressful. The only person getting anything out of keeping on fighting is the lawyers." Williams does not expect to re-sign with the Vikings.

Free agent NT Pat Williams is not expected back with the Vikings in 2011.

Williams wants to keep playing, but he sees a rebuilding effort in Minnesota. At age 38, Williams played 31 snaps or fewer in seven games while continuing a steady decline. He's a good fit in the Grady Jackson run-specialist role for a contender.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier revealed Thursday that NT Pat Williams recently underwent elbow surgery.

Frazier didn't give a timetable for Williams, but it seems like a minor procedure and not anything to worry about. Williams, 38, will be a free agent after the Super Bowl and there's a good chance he won't return to Minnesota.

Impending free agent NT Pat Williams believes Sunday's game is probably his last with the Vikings.

"They'll need to rebuild around here," Williams said. "It's going to be kind of rough." With Brett Favre retiring, the Vikes will likely have to transition from their win-at-all-costs mode to rebuilding on the fly. The 38-year-old Williams is a better fit on a contender, playing 25 snaps a game as a run-stopping specialist.

Vikings NT Pat Williams plans to play "a couple of more years" beyond the 2010 season.

The 38-year-old run-plugger is the oldest defensive player in the NFL. Reports surfaced last season that he was ready to call it quits, but there's no reason to walk away while still playing at a relatively high level. Williams is a free agent in 2011.

Vikings NT Pat Williams revealed that he underwent surgery on his balky elbow after the season.

Williams also claims to be down to 324 pounds after losing 18 pounds during the offseason, which is hard to believe. Not that he's lost 18 pounds, but that it puts him at 324 instead of 354. The elbow that plagued him last year is no longer an issue, so he'll enter camp healthy at age 37.
