The Buffalo defense has already seen changes in discipline under interim head coach Anthony Lynn.
"He’s done a great job of asserting himself and imprinting who he is," veteran linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said. "There have already been some immediate changes on the discipline portion of it." Lynn takes over after the Ryan brothers were dismissed and will lead the Bills against the Jets in Week 17. The Bills D/ST has failed to force a turnover in three of the last four weeks, but should have plenty of chances for takeaways in Week 17 with Ryan Fitzpatrick back under center for the Jets. Buffalo will host the Cleveland Browns in Week 15, who have managed just 9.8 points per game since Week 8.

The Browns have averaged a meager 166.8 passing yards per game in that same stretch, and present a mouth-watering matchup for the Bills D/ST in a critical fantasy playoff week. The Bills D/ST is owned in 69 percent of Yahoo leagues, a number that should climb as Sunday approaches. The winless Browns have allowed an NFL-high 48 sacks in 2016 and are showing little signs of life on the offensive side of the football. As an added bonus, Buffalo has a home date with Miami and backup QB Matt Moore on tap for Week 16.

The Buffalo Bills will rely on rookie CB Kevon Seymour to fill-in for CB Ronald Darby (concussion) in Week 13.

"It's a big step," Seymour said. "Big responsibility, filling in for Darby and being that corner the team is relying on. I'm excited for it." It will be a downgrade for Buffalo's eighth-ranked pass defense, a group that has allowed just two 300 yard passing performances this season. The Bills D/ST will be a mid-range fantasy option on the road against the Raiders, who have allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL.

The Buffalo defense has allowed seven plays of 50 yards or more this season.

That total ties the Bills with the Oakland Raiders for most 50 yard plays allowed in 2016. The Bills currently sit 13th among NFL defenses in pass defense, but big plays have done damage to this group. Buffalo will need to look for a solution to the big play troubles during their bye, as they will return to face A.J. Green, Allen Robinson, Amari Cooper, and Antonio Brown in consecutive weeks.

The Buffalo Bills will get rookie LB Shaq Lawson (shoulder) back in Week 7 after spending six weeks on the PUP list.

Lawson has practiced this week and will be worked into the Bills' defensive rotation on Sunday at Miami. "I’ve seen enough. He looks pretty darn good out there. He’s flying around and looks like the guy we drafted, the guy we wanted him to be," said coach Rex Ryan. Buffalo has allowed just 13.3 points and 214.3 passing yards per game since Week 2 as the Bills D/ST has become a top fantasy option. A welcoming matchup at Miami awaits the Bills in Week 7.

The Buffalo defense has recorded eight sacks and forced six turnovers over the last two weeks.

Rex Ryan's defense got manhandled by the Jets in Week 2, but has otherwise been solid in 2016. Week 2 was the only game in which the Bills D/ST didn't post a top-10 fantasy finish, and Ryan's crew has racked up three or more sacks three times in four tries. The Bills D/ST will be a borderline top-10 fantasy option this week when they travel to Los Angeles to face the Rams.

NY Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has a 47 percent completion percentage in 11 games against Rex Ryan defenses in addition to a 1-8 record as a starter.

Fitz also has a 16:12 touchdown-to-interception ratio in those games. These notes come courtesy of The Buffalo News and illustrate Fitzpatrick's struggles against Ryan's scheme. Buffalo held Baltimore to 13 points in a Week 1 loss and will look to put the clamps on Fitzpatrick and the Jets in Week 2. The Bills D/ST will be a mid-range fantasy option on Thursday Night Football.

The Buffalo defense is expected to get CB Ronald Darby (groin) back from injury in Week 17.

Darby missed Week 16 with the groin issue and will return to help the Bills defend the New York Jets' Brandon Marshall. Marshall caught just 3 passes for 23 yards and a score when these two teams met in Week 10 and Buffalo will hope to keep Marshall under control again on Sunday. The Bills D/ST won't be a highly recommended fantasy option in Week 17 despite the return of their starting corner.

The Buffalo defense will face Dallas quarterback Kellen Moore in Week 16.

Moore took over for Matt Cassel after the veteran was benched in Week 15 and completed 15 of 25 passes for 158 yards and three interceptions. Moore showed more willingness to throw the ball downfield than Cassel, which is better for the Dallas offense but will create turnover opportunities for Buffalo this week. The Bills D/ST has not been a great unit this season but is worth a shot this week in fantasy leagues at home in a nice matchup.

The Buffalo defense has worked in practice to prepare for the quick pace of Philadelphia's offense.

The Bills will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in Week 14, and are aware of the challenge that the quick-paced offense presents. "Those guys move very fast, they get plays going very fast, so we’ve got to get the call in fast and be ready to play," safety Corey Graham said. The Buffalo News notes that the Buffalo defense has experienced "communication breakdowns" this season, which does not bode well for a matchup with Chip Kelly's offense. The Bills D/ST will be a mid-tier fantasy option this week on the road.

The Buffalo defense has just 16 sacks this season and four over the last five weeks.

The Bills have struggled to get to opposing quarterbacks all season and have yet to find a solution. "We’ve got to figure it out. They’re getting rid of the ball; we got to kind of mix it up and make it fit like a puzzle," said NT Marcell Dareus. The Bills D/ST will be a mid-tier Week 13 options against a Houston team that has allowed a respectable 22 sacks in 2015.

The Buffalo Bills travel to New England in Week 11 to face the NFL's highest-scoring offense.

The Patriots average a healthy 33.7 points per game, and dropped 40 points and 507 total yards on Buffalo in Week 2. Despite the New England offense suffering critical injuries in recent weeks, the Bills D/ST will be a fantasy afterthought in Week 11 on the road at Gillette Stadium.

The Buffalo News noted the defensive line of the Bills as the "face and voice of the frustration and disappointment" of the Buffalo defense through the first half of the season.

The Bills have had trouble generating a pass rush with just 13 sacks in eight games, the third-lowest total among NFL defenses. The Buffalo News also mentioned that scheme may be the issue. "Mario Williams and Marcell Dareus have been particularly vocal about their displeasure over a scheme that has not always provided as much of the freedom to get after the quarterback as they previously had," said Vic Carucci. The Bills D/ST will be a middling fantasy option on Thursday as they face the New York Jets.

The Buffalo Bills will be looking for an improved pass rush as they take on Miami in Week 9.

The Buffalo defense is tied for 29th among NFL teams with just 11 sacks in 2015 and will look to turn around their performance as they return from a bye week. The Miami offensive line has surrendered 21 sacks on the season, the seventh-highest total in the NFL, so Week 9 could present a chance for Rex Ryan's defense to find a spark. The Bills D/ST is just outside the top-12 fantasy options this week.
Sat, Nov 7, 2015 04:03:00 AM

The Buffalo defense is struggling of late, allowing 68 points over the last two weeks.

Two defensive scores from Jacksonville in Week 7 helped contribute to the large point total, but the Bills D/ST has been disappointing in other areas as well, recording just two sacks in their last pair of contests. On the season, the Bills have just 11 sacks and have struggled under new coach Rex Ryan. The Bills D/ST will host the suddenly hot Miami offense after their Week 8 bye before heading out on a three-game road trip.
