The Buffalo defense is expected to get CB Ronald Darby (groin) back from injury in Week 17.
Darby missed Week 16 with the groin issue and will return to help the Bills defend the New York Jets' Brandon Marshall. Marshall caught just 3 passes for 23 yards and a score when these two teams met in Week 10 and Buffalo will hope to keep Marshall under control again on Sunday. The Bills D/ST won't be a highly recommended fantasy option in Week 17 despite the return of their starting corner. Jan 2 - 3:41 AM

The Buffalo defense will face Dallas quarterback Kellen Moore in Week 16.

Moore took over for Matt Cassel after the veteran was benched in Week 15 and completed 15 of 25 passes for 158 yards and three interceptions. Moore showed more willingness to throw the ball downfield than Cassel, which is better for the Dallas offense but will create turnover opportunities for Buffalo this week. The Bills D/ST has not been a great unit this season but is worth a shot this week in fantasy leagues at home in a nice matchup.

The Buffalo defense has worked in practice to prepare for the quick pace of Philadelphia's offense.

The Bills will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in Week 14, and are aware of the challenge that the quick-paced offense presents. "Those guys move very fast, they get plays going very fast, so we’ve got to get the call in fast and be ready to play," safety Corey Graham said. The Buffalo News notes that the Buffalo defense has experienced "communication breakdowns" this season, which does not bode well for a matchup with Chip Kelly's offense. The Bills D/ST will be a mid-tier fantasy option this week on the road.

The Buffalo defense has just 16 sacks this season and four over the last five weeks.

The Bills have struggled to get to opposing quarterbacks all season and have yet to find a solution. "We’ve got to figure it out. They’re getting rid of the ball; we got to kind of mix it up and make it fit like a puzzle," said NT Marcell Dareus. The Bills D/ST will be a mid-tier Week 13 options against a Houston team that has allowed a respectable 22 sacks in 2015.

The Buffalo Bills travel to New England in Week 11 to face the NFL's highest-scoring offense.

The Patriots average a healthy 33.7 points per game, and dropped 40 points and 507 total yards on Buffalo in Week 2. Despite the New England offense suffering critical injuries in recent weeks, the Bills D/ST will be a fantasy afterthought in Week 11 on the road at Gillette Stadium.

The Buffalo News noted the defensive line of the Bills as the "face and voice of the frustration and disappointment" of the Buffalo defense through the first half of the season.

The Bills have had trouble generating a pass rush with just 13 sacks in eight games, the third-lowest total among NFL defenses. The Buffalo News also mentioned that scheme may be the issue. "Mario Williams and Marcell Dareus have been particularly vocal about their displeasure over a scheme that has not always provided as much of the freedom to get after the quarterback as they previously had," said Vic Carucci. The Bills D/ST will be a middling fantasy option on Thursday as they face the New York Jets.

The Buffalo Bills will be looking for an improved pass rush as they take on Miami in Week 9.

The Buffalo defense is tied for 29th among NFL teams with just 11 sacks in 2015 and will look to turn around their performance as they return from a bye week. The Miami offensive line has surrendered 21 sacks on the season, the seventh-highest total in the NFL, so Week 9 could present a chance for Rex Ryan's defense to find a spark. The Bills D/ST is just outside the top-12 fantasy options this week.

The Buffalo defense is struggling of late, allowing 68 points over the last two weeks.

Two defensive scores from Jacksonville in Week 7 helped contribute to the large point total, but the Bills D/ST has been disappointing in other areas as well, recording just two sacks in their last pair of contests. On the season, the Bills have just 11 sacks and have struggled under new coach Rex Ryan. The Bills D/ST will host the suddenly hot Miami offense after their Week 8 bye before heading out on a three-game road trip.

Former Bills quarterback Jim Kelly questioned the defensive strategy of the Buffalo defense that has resulted in just nine sacks this season.

The Buffalo D/ST has not lived up to preseason expectations that were raised when new coach Rex Ryan took over after the 2014 season. Kelly told the Buffalo News, "If I’m the opposing quarterback and I see him (Mario Williams) dropping into coverage – and Hughes? – oh that’s a big plus. I’d definitely have a smile on my face." The defensive tactics of Ryan have come into question with the Buffalo defense failing to create pressure on opposing quarterbacks and clocking in at 17th in the NFL in total defense. Despite the struggles, a matchup with Jacksonville in London makes the Bills D/ST a borderline startable fantasy option in Week 7.

The secondary of the Buffalo Bills will receive an upgrade on Sunday as FS Aaron Williams returns to the field.

Williams missed Buffalo's last two games with a neck injury suffered in Week 2, but will be back in the starting lineup on Sunday at Tennessee. "Aaron’s one of the top safeties in the league when he’s healthy," Bills coach Rex Ryan said. "So obviously that’s a big loss when he’s not in there and it should really help getting him back." The Bills are allowing 297.8 passing yards per game this season, the fourth-worst mark among NFL teams, but the return of Williams should help. The Bills D/ST will be a mid-level Week 5 fantasy option.

Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News believes the Bills need to dial up more pressure in Week 4 when they host Eli Manning and the New York Giants.

"After paying a heavy price for trying to pressure Tom Brady primarily with his defensive line, Ryan saw excellent results from frequently blitzing Ryan Tannehill when the Dolphins tried copying the Patriots’ quick-passing tactic last Sunday," Carucci said. The Bills defense sacked Tannehill twice in Week 3 and held the Dolphins scoreless for the first 39:21 of the game. The Giants have given up just three sacks so far this season, so Rex Ryan's squad will have to work to get to Eli Manning. The Bills D/ST is a top-10 fantasy option this week at home.

The Buffalo Bills are expecting quick passes from the Miami offense in Week 3.

BuffaloBills.com reports that the Buffalo defensive line was neutralized by the New England quick passing game in Week 2, and that the team expects more of the same from Miami on Sunday. "With the success that New England had our up front guys, the talent that we have up there, that is one of the things that we have to expect and prepare for," said LB Manny Lawson. The Bills did sack Tom Brady twice in Week 2, but were ineffective overall as they allowed 40 points and 507 yards of offense. Despite the Week 2 dip in performance, the Buffalo defense is still a quality group and is a startable Week 3 fantasy option against Miami.

Rex Ryan acknowledged the challenge of defending New England tight end Rob Gronkowski as the Buffalo Bills prepare to host the Patriots.

Ryan told the Buffalo News that "there will probably be some snaps when three guys are on him." Stopping Gronk is likely not going to happen on Sunday, but the Bills will do what they can to limit the tight end, who is coming off a three touchdown performance in Week 1. Buffalo held Indianapolis tight ends to a combined four catches for 22 yards in Week 1, and will hope to repeat their stout defensive performance on Sunday. The Bills D/ST is a good enough unit to start in fantasy leagues this week, despite the tough matchup.

Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News believes that rookie cornerback Ronald Darby could be a liability in Week 1 against Andrew Luck and the Colts.

Carucci notes that the Buffalo coaching staff should give Darby help from the Bills safeties, but shouldn't "be afraid to pull the plug on him." Corey Graham would fill-in if Darby is benched, but the Bills hope that won't be the case on Sunday. The Buffalo D/ST is a great fantasy option for the 2015 season, but isn't a recommended play in Week 1 against Andrew Luck and Indianapolis.

Buffalo GM Doug Whaley spoke very highly of his defense while talking with the Buffalo News, emphasizing the team's confidence on that side of the ball.

"We have no fear," Whaley said. "That’s how our defense is going to play. We’re good. We know we’re good." The Buffalo defense had a stellar 2014 season and is looking to continue to stuff opposing offenses in 2015. The Bills D/ST is currently the second highest drafted fantasy defense and should be strong once again under new defensive-minded HC Rex Ryan and DC Dennis Thurman.
