Free agent LB Will Witherspoon plans to keep playing.
Witherspoon, 32, is an 11-year veteran, and he said his next goal is to get to 15 years in the league. He hasn't heard anything from the Titans, but he says he'd like to re-sign. Tennessee is likely to move on, though, and Witherspoon might have a tough go of it on the market. Mar 1 - 4:25 PM

Titans LB Will Witherspoon (hamstring) is expected to return for Sunday's game against the Bears.

Witherspoon's hammy is ready, but his role is in doubt. Zach Brown, Akeem Ayers and Colin McCarthy are all healthy and in need of snaps. Witherspoon doesn't project as an IDP asset.

Titans LB Will Witherspoon sustained a hamstring injury during Sunday's Week 7 win over the Bills.

The Titans are really thin at linebacker. Colin McCarthy's ankle woes continue to linger, Patrick Bailey has a broken rib and Zac Diles broke his right leg on Sunday. Look for them to add a linebacker shortly.

Titans LB Will Witherspoon didn't play a single defensive snap in Week 5 against the Vikings.

Middle linebacker Colin McCarthy has returned from his high ankle sprain, and second-round rookie Zach Brown has replaced Witherspoon at weak-side linebacker. Witherspoon can be safely dropped in IDP leagues. McCarthy has resumed his every-down role, playing 60-of-69 snaps in the loss to Minnesota.

Will Witherspoon opened camp as the Titans' starting weak-side linebacker.

Colin McCarthy is locked in as the three-down middle linebacker and Akeem Ayers is on the strong side. Witherspoon will have to hold off second-round rookie Zach Brown to keep his job. He had 56 tackles and two sacks in that role last year.

The Nashville Tennessean believes OLB Will Witherspoon would keep his starting job if the Titans signed restricted free agent LB Jonathan Casillas.

Witherspoon is due a pricey $3.5 million and has been replacement level at best as a starter the past two seasons, but Casillas doesn't project as more than a reserve and special teamer. Witherspoon could end up facing competition in the form of a draft pick.

Fox Sports' Adam Caplan thinks Will Witherspoon could get a chance to be the Titans' starting middle linebacker this season if free agent Stephen Tulloch departs.

Caplan believes fourth-round pick Colin McCarthy would likely get the first crack at the job should Tulloch leave, however. A middle linebacker earlier in his career, Witherspoon started on the outside for the Titans in 2010.

Offseason bargain acquisitions LB Will Witherspoon and DE Jason Babin have been key contributors to the Titans early season success.

The Eagles failed to match the Titans' one-year, $1 million offer sheet for Babin, and Witherspoon signed a three-year, $11 million contract with $5 million guaranteed. Said coach Jeff Fisher, "You talk about Jason Babin, Will Witherspoon and Derrick Morgan and all the new pieces to our defense and the production we got out of them … They've done a great job." Both have proven worthwhile investments.

OLB Will Witherspoon left Sunday's contest with an apparent leg injury.

Witherspoon was having an impressive game before he got hurt. His status is unknown.

Titans OLB Will Witherspoon has missed the last two practices to deal with the death of his mother.

Witherspoon is still expected to play Sunday, but he could end up losing snaps to Rennie Curran after missing out on the game-planning. Colin Allred, expected to fill in for Gerald McRath (suspension) and David Thornton (hip), has been limited with an ankle injury. It could be a better than expected matchup for Darren McFadden.

Titans signed LB Will Witherspoon to a three-year, $11 million contract with $5 million guaranteed.

Witherspoon, who started for both the Rams and the Eagles last season, has the versatility to play any of the three linebacker spots for the Titans. Per the Nashville City Paper, he will be "penciled in" as a starting outside linebacker, most likely on the weak side. The eraser could make an appearance if Keith Bulluck (torn ACL) re-signs.

The Titans will host free agent LB Will Witherspoon for a Tuesday visit.

The potential marriage makes sense for both sides. The Titans, moving on from longtime weak-side 'backer Keith Bulluck, are in search of athleticism at the position and can offer a starting job. Range has always been Spoon's primary strength. The Titans are set at middle linebacker after giving Stephen Tulloch a first-round tender, and Gerald McRath is their SLB of the future.

Panthers beat writer Steve Reed thinks the Panthers could have some interest in bringing back free agent LB Will Witherspoon if the price is right.

Witherspoon could replace recently released strong-side LB Na'il Diggs, even though Spoon played the MIKE and WILL spots for the Eagles and Rams in 2009. He played his first four seasons in the league with the Panthers and may want to return "home." It's not an ideal fit position-wise.

Eagles released LB Will Witherspoon.

Witherspoon was due $5 million over the next two years. Though he played well as the MIKE when he first arrived from St. Louis in October, his play fell off at the WILL spot down the stretch. Akeem Jordan will go back to the weak side in 2010.

Eagles coordinator Sean McDermott has refused to name a starting middle linebacker this week.

Akeem Jordan (knee) is expected to return this week, would seem to put Will Witherspoon back at MIKE while sending Joe Mays to the bench. The Eagles may give Jordan another week, though, before handing him starter's snaps.
