Free agent RB DeShaun Foster was one of five players that worked out for the Rams Tuesday.
RB Gary Russell, FB/RB Carey Davis, LB Tank Daniels, and LB David Herron were the others. The Rams clearly aren't happy with their backs behind Steven Jackson, as they also showed interest in Ahman Green last month. But as of now, GM Billy Devaney indicated that no signings were imminent from this group. Samkon Gado is currently Jackson's backup. Wed, Sep 9, 2009 09:46:00 AM

ESPN's John Clayton suggests that the Bills will look back into signing free agent DeShaun Foster now that Marshawn Lynch's suspension has been announced.

The other option is Cecil Sapp. Buffalo can get by the first three games of the season with Fred Jackson starting, but isn't sold on Xavier Omon being able to back him up adequately. Jackson is going to carry the full load.

Free agent RB DeShaun Foster is visiting with the Bills on Wednesday.

The Bills have been actively shopping for a running back to share the load with the Fred Jackson as a contingency for a Marshawn Lynch suspension. They can do better than Foster, who has averaged 3.1 and 3.5 yards per carry the past two seasons.

The 49ers are hoping to get younger at tailback behind Frank Gore and seem unlikely to re-sign free agent DeShaun Foster.

Foster, 29, averaged a career-worst 3.1 YPC last season on 71 totes. There's no reason to think he's any better than practice squad RB Thomas Clayton.

DeShaun Foster rushed nine times for 44 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 20 yards in Week 17.

The one-yard score was his first rushing touchdown of the season. Once an NFL starter, Foster is a decent, but low-end fantasy handcuff and he could lose that role if the 49ers choose to get Frank Gore help in the off-season.

DeShaun Foster ran for 36 yards on 12 carries in the 49ers' Week 16 win over the Rams. He added 17 yards on two receptions.

Managing an even three yards a carry against St. Louis is a telltale sign that this running back is running on close to empty. Foster also blew a blitz pickup to get Shaun Hill sacked. With Frank Gore due back in Week 17, Foster will return to the bench. He signed a cheap, two-year deal in the offseason, but the 49ers should be able to do better behind Gore in 2009.

DeShaun Foster rushed 18 times for 76 yards and caught five passes for 25 yards against the Dolphins in Week 15.

The Niners were determined to establish a rushing attack in a ball control offense, and Foster was the beneficiary. Though he was able to keep the chains moving, Foster leaves a lot to be desired as a playmaker. He would be a viable RB2 next week at St. Louis if Frank Gore is sidelined again.

DeShaun Foster managed just 35 yards on 16 carries after replacing injured Frank Gore against the Jets on Sunday.

This is basically what happens when a mediocre backup goes against a top rushing defense. The Niners' offensive line failed to open up holes for Foster and he wasn't able to create anything on his own. He also fumbled once.

DeShaun Foster would likely get the start for San Francisco if Frank Gore (concussion) can't play in Week 11 against St. Louis.

St. Louis' run defense is awful, but you already knew that. Foster's only competition for carries would be Michael Robinson, who the 49ers see as a decent short-yardage option. That's poor evaluation on their part, but Foster might lose some action on the goal line if Gore is out. The 49ers also think Robinson can lead block and that could end up being his main role Sunday.

The San Francisco Chronicle believes that DeShaun Foster will struggle for playing time in 2008, barring injury.

Mike Martz has spoken of using Michael Robinson and Frank Gore in the backfield together, but said nothing about Foster. Foster isn't great in short yardage, where perhaps the 49ers could use help, and at this stage of his career is little more than a poor man's Gore. He still isn't a bad handcuff.

Mike Nolan says DeShaun Foster will add just as much to the 49ers passing game as their running game.

Mike Martz loves his backs to catch, and Foster is underrated in that area. As an oversized finesse back, he actually fits well in Martz's offense. He's a solid handcuff for Frank Gore owners, even if he doesn't get regular carries.

49ers signed RB DeShaun Foster to a two-year, $1.8 million contract, according to ESPN's John Clayton.

At this extremely low price, Foster isn't guaranteed anything, although he's the heavy favorite to backup Frank Gore in front of Michael Robinson and Thomas Clayton. Since he can play all downs solidly, Foster will make a fine handcuff for Gore, but nothing more.

The Rock Hill Herald confirms that free agent DeShaun Foster is close to signing a deal with the 49ers.

It sounds like the deal will be announced before the free agency period, maybe as soon as Tuesday. ESPN's John Clayton originally reported it Monday.

ESPN's John Clayton expects the 49ers to sign free agent DeShaun Foster "in the next couple of days."

San Francisco was quick to contact Foster after he was cut last Thursday. The Niners would reportedly use him as a backup to Frank Gore, but he'd be the biggest threat for carries Gore's faced since Kevan Barlow in '05. Foster isn't expected to get much money - which will be telling regarding his role.

The Buccaneers are reportedly targeting free agent DeShaun Foster.

"We've had talks with his representative, yes," GM Bruce Allen confirmed Saturday. The Bucs are always active, but this indicates they won't be content with just Earnest Graham as their lead back. Foster isn't great, but makes a better backup than Michael Bennett or Kenneth Darby. The club will meet with him early next week.
