Thomas Jones rushed 15 times for 42 yards in Kansas City's Week 17 win over the Broncos.
A fitting end to a season that saw Jones average just 3.1 yards on his 153 carries. A plodder who no longer contributes in the passing game, the free-agent-to-be will draw little, if any, interest on the open market. Sun, Jan 1, 2012 08:15:00 PM

Thomas Jones rushed 11 times for 51 yards in the Chiefs' Week 16 overtime loss to the Raiders.

Jones started, but ended up with three fewer carries than Jackie Battle. He actually cracked 4.0 yards per carry for the first time since Week 11. We wouldn't bet on it happening again in Denver next week. Jones, set to his free agency after this season, is at the end of the line.

Thomas Jones rushed 15 times for 48 yards and added one reception for 27 yards against the Packers in Week 15.

Jones ran as the lead back in Romeo Crennel's first game as head coach. The 3.2 yards per carry was his highest average in a month, and he's yet to score a touchdown this season. Running on fumes, Jones isn't a flex option for Week 16 against the Raiders.

Thomas Jones rushed five times for 12 yards in Kansas City's Week 14 loss to the Jets.

He was held without a catch. Jones was de-emphasized in favor of Jackie Battle, who managed only 33 yards on 10 carries. With the Chiefs lacking any coherent order in their backfield for weeks now, it's a situation to avoid in all formats for the duration of the fantasy playoffs.

Thomas Jones rushed 16 times for 36 yards in Sunday's win over the Bears.

A typically wheezing effort from Jones, who is now averaging an abysmal 3.04 yards on his 107 carries this season. As has become the norm in the Chiefs backfield, Jones, Dexter McCluster and Jackie Battle were more-or-less used in a "hot hand" rotation today, with each receiving at least nine carries and never "taking over" for any prolonged stretch. Unless you're a McCluster owner in a deeper PPR format, it's a situation to avoid in fantasy leagues.

Thomas Jones "led" the Chiefs with 13 carries for 37 yards in Sunday's loss to the Steelers.

He added one catch for seven yards. For the second straight week, Kansas City's carries were divided almost evenly between Jones, Jackie Battle and Dexter McCluster, who all took the rock at least nine times. There was no clear rotation, with coach Todd Haley seemingly going with whoever was the freshest. With the trio combining to average just 2.7 yards on 31 carries, it remains a situation to avoid in fantasy leagues next weekend against a Bears team that bottled up Michael Bush Sunday.

Thomas Jones rushed the ball eight times for 48 yards in the Chiefs' Week 11 loss to the Patriots.

Jones, Dexter McCluster, and Jackie Battle each rushed the ball eight times, as Jones' touches came at the expense of Battle. Jones has better vision and a bit more "burst" than Battle, but we're comparing different junker cars at this point. Outside of PPR leagues in which McCluster would have minimal value, this is a backfield to be avoided like the plague.

Thomas Jones was held to 10 yards on five carries in Monday's Week 8 win over the Chargers.

He and Jackie Battle form perhaps the slowest running back tandem in the history of the NFL, with Jones finally getting phased out of the game plan. He has been waiver wire fodder for some time.

Thomas Jones rushed nine times for 19 yards in Sunday's win over the Raiders.

Todd Haley just won't give up on Jones. He started the veteran today even though Jones looks like the slowest player on the field whenever he gets the ball. If Haley unbiasedly watches the film of Jones this season, he'll give Jackie Battle a larger majority of the carries going forward. Jones is averaging 3.18 yards per carry through six games.

Thomas Jones rushed 10 times for 55 yards and caught two passes for seven yards in the Chiefs' Week 5 win.

Jones hit a couple of huge holes for solid gains, but was thoroughly outplayed by and received fewer touches than Jackie Battle. Jones' role figures to decrease in favor of Battle going forward. He's barely worth owning.

Thomas Jones ran for just 37 yards on 11 carries in the Chiefs' Week 4 win over the Vikings.

It's interesting to note that special teamer Jackie Battle (5-22) got the carries late in clock-killing mode, with Jones essentially nowhere to be found. His tank on E, Jones is on pace for just 452 total yards, has not scored on the season, and is averaging a putrid 2.82 yards per touch. He won't be anything close to a fantasy option in Week 5 at Indianapolis.

Thomas Jones rushed 14 times for just 31 yards in Sunday's loss to the Chargers.

Jones added one catch for two yards. It was a predictably inept performance for Jones, who had averaged just 3.62 yards per carry over his previous 18 games coming into this one. And as the Chiefs fell behind, Jones lost the majority of his snaps to Dexter McCluster. The 33-year-old is nothing more than a desperation option for owners grasping at straws.

OC Bill Muir says the Chiefs plan to give Thomas Jones the ball "until his tongue is hanging out."

"We’ll do whatever we’ve got to do to win the game," Muir said. "Wherever (Jones has) been, he’s loved to carry the ball." With Dexter McCluster expected to be limited to 10-to-14 touches per game, Jones will shoulder the rest of the load. He has no upside, but is at least worth a flier in deeper leagues. Le'Ron McClain and Jackie Battle could eventually be in line for carries, but for now they're off the radar in even exceptionally deep formats.

The Chiefs' website refers to the team's backfield as a "running back by committee" situation following Jamaal Charles' torn ACL.

KCChiefs.com calls Thomas Jones, Dexter McCluster, Le'Ron McClain, and Jackie Battle all candidates for carries. Jones, now 33 years old, has 14 rushing attempts for 43 yards (3.07 YPC) through two games. McCluster will probably play the most snaps because Kansas City will so often be trailing. Aside from McCluster, it's a situation to avoid in fantasy leagues.

The Chiefs' official site calls Thomas Jones the "best candidate for an increase in workload" following Jamaal Charles' season-ending knee injury.

Jones will be plugged in as the starter and leader of the Chiefs' new committee, but we don't have high hopes. He has averaged just 3.62 yards per carry over his last 18 games and was getting phased out of the offense prior to Charles' injury for a reason. Jones will be called upon to kill the clock if the Chiefs are sitting on a lead, but that doesn't figure to happen very often this season. Consider Jones a low-upside RB3 at best going forward.
