Redskins hired Phillip Daniels as director of player development.
Daniels, 39, retired after being released by the Redskins following the lockout. The 99th pick in the '96 draft, Daniels played 14 seasons as a 6-foot-5, 302-pound end/tackle. He recorded 62 career sacks for the Seahawks, Bears, and Redskins. Daniels' son, DaVaris, was a four-star recruit out of Vernon Hills (IL) and will be a sophomore wide receiver at Notre Dame in 2012. Redskins released DE Phillip Daniels.

Daniels was only due a million bucks, but the Redskins are on the verge of completing a deal with Cullen Jenkins. They also used a second-round pick in April on Jarvis Jenkins. Daniels has slowed down considerably and turned 38 earlier in the offseason. It seems likely that he will call it a career.

Redskins DE Phillip Daniels (injured reserve, abdomen/groin) wants to play at least one more season.

Daniels is signed cheaply for next season, but turns 38 in May and has seen his once solid run stopping skills decline. It remains to be seen if the Redskins or any other team will grant his wish to continue his career.

Redskins placed DE Phillip Daniels (abdomen/groin) on injured reserve, ending his season.

It could be a career-ender for the 37-year-old. Daniels was never a star pass rusher, and faded with his run defense this season. Though he's under contract for $1 million in 2011, it's probably time for the Skins to move on.

Redskins DE Phillip Daniels left Sunday's game against the Cowboys in the third quarter with an abdomen injury.

Daniels is questionable to return. The Redskins were already thin at end with starter Kedric Golston out. Vonnie Holliday has come on.

Redskins DE Phillip Daniels underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last week.

The 37-year-old will be held out of spring practices before returning to training camp for his rotational run-stopping role. Daniels signed a new two-year, $2.162 million contract back in early March.

Redskins re-signed DE Phillip Daniels to a two-year, $2.162 million contract, including a $250,000 signing bonus.

Daniels turned 37 yesterday and is no longer a factor as a pass rusher, having posted seven sacks in 46 games over the last three seasons. He'll be a rotational run stopper at the five technique in Washington's new 3-4 scheme.

Free agent DE Phillip Daniels confirmed that the Redskins have offered him a contract.

Daniels' camp is analyzing the offer and will get back to the Redskins early this week. He'll turn 37 on Thursday and would be part of the 'Skins end rotation in their new 3-4 scheme next season. He would be used as strictly a run stuffer.

The Redskins have reportedly extended a contract offer to free agent DE Phillip Daniels.

Daniels can no longer rush the passer, but the Skins see him as a fit for their new 3-4 defense, likely as a five-technique end. We suspect the 37-year-old, thought to be considering retirement, was offered around $1 million.

Redskins DE Phillip Daniels said that he will delay surgery on his torn biceps and continue playing.

Doctors must have told Daniels that he can't do any further damage. This is fairly good news for the Skins, but Daniels hasn't been a difference maker.

Redskins LE Phillip Daniels is scheduled to have an MRI today on his torn right biceps.

He injured the biceps while trying to tackle DeAngelo Williams late in the Week 5 loss. Daniels heard something pop, but also said he may be able to play with the injury. The extent of the tear will determine if he'll suit up against Kansas City. Daniels has 14 tackles on the season.

Redskins re-signed DE Phillip Daniels to a one-year contract for the veteran's minimum, according to the Washington Post.

Daniels is 36 and coming off a torn ACL, so the Skins shouldn't expect much explosiveness off the edge. He will mostly be asked to defend the run at left end with Renaldo Wynn, Chris Wilson, and possibly a rookie rotating in.

Phillip Daniels, whose contract was voided in February in a cost-cutting move, says he plans to rejoin his former team.

"We're working something out," he said. "I'll be a Redskin this year." He is expected to sign a one-year deal for the veteran minimum sometime next week. The 36-year-old, who is coming off ACL surgery, projects to play a reserve role with the team.

According to the Washington Post, the Redskins have made a contract offer to defensive lineman Phillip Daniels.

"Yeah, my agent has been talking to the Redskins and they're trying to work out something," Daniels said Saturday. "There are some other teams calling, so I'm still just trying to take it slow and see what happens, but I'm hoping we can get something worked out and I can be a Redskin next season."

Free agent DE Phillip Daniels says the Redskins have informed him he'll be back on the team in 2009.

"They have told me they want me back," he said. "And I would love to come back." Daniels might fill a situational role, but almost certainly doesn't have what it takes to be a three-down player at age 36 coming off ACL surgery.
