Bears WLB Lance Briggs (groin) is expected to miss "a few weeks."
Briggs got hurt in a collision with Mike Evans last Sunday. Rookie Christian Jones is expected to take over on the weak-side. It's a big loss to an already-bad Chicago run defense, as Briggs has graded out as a top-four 4-3 outside linebacker against the run at Pro Football Focus. Briggs, 34, is in the final year of his contract. It's fair to wonder if he's played his final snap as a Bear. Nov 26 - 9:31 AM

Bears WLB Lance Briggs exited Week 12 against the Bucs with a groin injury.

Briggs hurt himself in a collision with Mike Evans in the second quarter. He slowly walked to the locker room before halftime. Briggs has been ruled out for the rest of the game. Rookie Christian Jones will replace Briggs in the lineup.
Nov 23 - 2:49 PM

Bears WLB Lance Briggs admitted this is "probably my last year as a Chicago Bear."

Briggs, in his 12th year as Bear at 33 years old, is in the final year of his contract. The seven-time Pro Bowler is not expecting to get an offer from the team prior to free agency. He said he doesn't know if he'll even play in the NFL in 2015. Briggs, who has missed the last three games due to a rib injury, is expected back for Sunday night's game against the Packers.
Nov 6 - 9:20 AM

Bears declared WLB Lance Briggs, LB Jon Bostic, RT Jordan Mills, S Danny McCray, S Ahmad Dixon, OG Charles Leno and CB Terrance Mitchell inactive for Week 8 against the Patriots.

With Mills inactive, Michael Ola will start opposite Jermon Bushrod. Briggs is week to week with a ribs injury.
Oct 26 - 11:40 AM

Bears WLB Lance Briggs (ribs) is listed as doubtful for Week 8.

Chicago had all kinds of problems in coverage of Charles Clay at the second level last week, primarily due to injuries at linebacker. They will turn to UDFA Christian Jones instead of struggling Khaseem Greene on the weak side this week.
Oct 24 - 1:55 PM

Bears declared WLB Lance Briggs, FS Chris Conte, DB Terrance Mitchell, S Ahmad Dixon, LB Jon Bostic, OL Charles Leno, and DE Trevor Scott inactive for Week 7 against the Dolphins.

Khaseem Greene will start on the weak side in place of Briggs. Brock Vereen will make the start at free safety. The Bears are relatively healthy.
Oct 19 - 11:36 AM

Bears WLB Lance Briggs (ribs) has been ruled out for Week 7.

The Bears have played surprisingly stout run defense despite Briggs' absence. They'll continue to mix and match on the weak side against the Dolphins.
Oct 17 - 2:09 PM

Bears WLB Lance Briggs (ribs) has been ruled out for Week 6.

It's an upgrade to Steven Jackson and the Falcons' rushing attack. Look for the Bears to use either Khaseem Greene or UDFA Christian Jones at weak-side 'backer.
Oct 10 - 2:00 PM

Bears WLB Lance Briggs is expected to wear a harness on his left shoulder this season.

A fracture in Briggs' left shoulder cost him seven games last season, one of the reasons the Bears posted the league's worst run defense by a wide margin. The harness will be precautionary. Briggs projects as a safe, but not exciting IDP option again this season. He's had triple-digit tackles in 8-of-11 NFL campaigns.
Apr 21 - 8:29 AM

Bears WLB Lance Briggs (shoulder) returned to a full practice Friday and has been cleared by doctors to play at Philadelphia.

Briggs would be a dicey IDP bet in fantasy title week because it's unclear whether he'll play a full dose of snaps. Officially, he's a game-time decision.

Bears coach Marc Trestman is "optimistic" WLB Lance Briggs (shoulder) will play in Sunday night's game against the Eagles.

Briggs resumed practicing last week and participated Wednesday on a limited basis. Barring a setback, he should finally be cleared to return in Week 16.

Bears WLB Lance Briggs (shoulder) is targeting Week 16 for his return.

Recovering from a fractured shoulder, Briggs returned to practice on a limited basis this week. He won't play against the Browns, but has a chance to play against the Eagles. The Bears have been using rookie Khaseem Greene at weak-side linebacker in the meantime, and Greene has struggled mightily.

Bears coach Marc Trestman is "not optimistic" WLB Lance Briggs (shoulder) will play in Week 15 against the Browns.

Briggs still hasn't gained clearance to resume practicing and remains week to week. The Bears have allowed running backs to go over 100 yards in six straight games without Briggs and desperately need him to get healthy. Given a 4-6 week timetable in Week 7, it's possible Briggs is dealing with a setback.

Bears WLB Lance Briggs (shoulder) still hasn't gained medical clearance.

Briggs fractured his left shoulder in Week 7 and was slapped with a 4-6 week timetable. His injury is taking far longer to heal than expected. Meanwhile, the Bears defense is getting absolutely gashed against the run, allowing opposing running backs to go over 100 yards in six straight games.
Wed, Dec 11, 2013 10:03:00 AM

Bears WLB Lance Briggs (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 14.

Per coach Marc Trestman, Briggs will be re-evaluated "early next week." Briggs is officially behind schedule, as he was given a 4-6 week timetable upon going down in Week 7. For the sake of Chicago's run defense, Briggs can't return soon enough.
