The Chicago Bears are reportedly mulling over the idea of bringing back free agent DL Alfonso Boone.
Boone spent the first seven years of his career in Chicago, and would likely supplant Marcus Harrison on the team's roster if signed. Sat, Oct 9, 2010 01:50:00 PM

Chargers released DE Alfonso Boone.

The 34-year-old was a healthy scratch in Week 4. San Diego will go forward with Vaughn Martin and Travis Johnson behind Luis Castillo and Jacques Cesaire.

Chargers re-signed DL Alfonso Boone to a two-year contract.

Boone is versed in DC Ron Rivera's scheme, and he exceeded expectations as a rotational lineman after coming over from the Chiefs last September.

Chargers signed DL Alfonso Boone, formerly of the Chiefs.

Boone knows DC Ron Rivera's scheme and has less tread on his tires than most 33-year-olds, but it's a big stretch to think he'll solve San Diego's run defense woes. The Chargers, who've yielded 278 rushing yards already, may have to use more four-man fronts after losing NT Jamal Williams.

The Chargers are scheduled to host DL Alfonso Boone for a free agent visit on Monday.

Boone is a run stuffer, but not an ideal fit to play nose tackle in San Diego's 3-4 scheme. Without nose tackle Jamal Williams, the Bolts will have to get creative. They were gashed by the Baltimore running game on Sunday.

Despite reports that he was signing in Carolina, free agent DT Alfonso Boone is scheduled to meet with the Raiders.

Perhaps the Panthers weren't sold on a player junked by the Chiefs? Oakland is expected to offer him a contract and are now considered the favorites to sign the run-stopping tackle.

The Panthers are expected to sign free agent DT Alfonso Boone on Wednesday.

It'd be a solid pickup. Boone is past his prime, but could function as a run-stopping wave tackle in Carolina. He also has a pretty good handle on DC Ron Meeks' scheme after playing for Herm Edwards and Lovie Smith.

Chiefs released DE Alfonso Boone.

Boone entered camp as the starting left defensive end but that was short-lived once first-round pick Tyson Jackson signed. Boone was a full-time starter for the Chiefs in 2007, and a part-time starter last season.

The Chiefs will start Alfonso Boone at left defensive end this season.

Boone was Kansas City's best defensive tackle last year, not that it's saying much. He will provide a big body outside at 6'3/304, but is unlikely to post high sack numbers. Glenn Dorsey will take his spot at the three technique.

Chiefs agreed to terms with DT Alfonso Boone, formerly of the Bears, on a four-year contract worth $7.2 million, including $1.5 million guaranteed.

He has experience in the Tampa 2 and played quite a bit after Tommie Harris got hurt for the NFC Champs, but has never been considered a difference maker and plays the same position as Ron Edwards, who re-signed Thursday. The Chiefs hope the uninspiring duo will help stop the run.

The Chiefs have gaping holes at both defensive tackle spots.

Free agent DL Alfonso Boone arrived in Denver Friday for a visit.

Boone could be added to the ever-growing rotation of linemen in Denver as a run-stuffer. The Bears will need to add some depth at defensive tackle this off-season. They expect to loose Boone and Ian Scott.

Bears free agent defensive tackles Alfonso Boone and Ian Scott are not expected to be re-signed this offseason.

This indicates that Chicago will retain Tank Johnson and remains high on 2006 third-rounder Dusty Dvoracek despite his first year being a wash. Scott might get starter's money as a 4-3 nose, but Boone is unlikely to.

The Bears are expected to use a "defensive tackle-by-committee" following the likely regular-season ending injuries to Tommie Harris.

Alfonso Boone is expected to start but Pro Bowl defensive end Alex Brown will kick inside on passing downs. Ian Scott, Antonio Garay, and Israel Idonije will also factor in. Chicago will test out the new plan in a tough Monday night matchup with Rams running back Steven Jackson.

DT Alfonso Boone will be out a few weeks after undergoing wrist surgery.

The Bears head to training camp thin on the defensive line with Tank Johnson (quadriceps) also mending.
